Advanced Treatment for Prostate Cancer with PCIA

  • last year
Dr. Ajay Bhatnagar from Prostate Cancer Institute of Arizona stopped by #ArizonaDailyMix to talk about treating prostate cancer using the most advanced techniques.

Localized Prostate Cancer is highly curable but has several different treatment options with a wide array of side effect profiles. LDR Prostate Brachytherapy is an ideal treatment option which has gone away for the wrong reasons and it is PCIA’s mission to bring this option back to the community of Phoenix. 00:00 November is Men's Health Month and Dr. B is here to talk about how important it is for
00:07 men to take care of their self this month and work on of course getting checked out
00:12 for prostate cancer and other things.
00:14 How are you doing doctor?
00:15 I'm doing great, thank you.
00:17 Let's talk, it is a time for men to be more aware of their health and there's a couple
00:22 of different things to help us remind us isn't there?
00:24 Yes, November is packed.
00:26 First of all we need to honor Veterans Day, it's very important to honor our veterans,
00:32 they've made major sacrifices for our country including their own health.
00:36 There's a variety of environmental exposures during their service that have been shown
00:42 to have an increased risk of cancer, especially prostate cancer.
00:46 The most common environmental toxin or most popular one has been Agent Orange during their
00:53 time in the Vietnam War that has been shown to have directly linked to prostate cancer.
00:59 So it's very important for these men to be getting checked out.
01:03 Yeah, and it's kind of interesting with our veterans they sometimes are acting bigger
01:10 and stronger and don't want to go ask for help or anything so that's why a family member
01:14 needs to really be there with them and talk with them and make sure they are getting checked
01:18 out.
01:19 That's a great idea, that's excellent.
01:20 I mean anything we can do to increase awareness, to allow them to be identified earlier of
01:27 their illnesses that could potentially occur during their service is a great thing.
01:33 Yeah, okay, let's talk about no shave which is going on too.
01:37 All this means something for men's health, people have to realize that doesn't it?
01:41 Yes, so there's no shave November.
01:42 This is a campaign for men to forego shaving to help create awareness of cancer.
01:48 Some people even want you to save that money from foregoing shaving and to donate it for
01:54 cancer societies but it seems like we haven't participated in that.
02:02 And that's just like with Movember too, that's another way but that really focuses on of
02:06 course prostate cancer and men being aware of that.
02:09 Yeah, so Movember is an initiative for growing a mustache to create awareness of prostate
02:15 cancer as well as mental health and suicide prevention.
02:18 Yeah, I know they actually brought a lot underneath that umbrella and that's why it's important.
02:22 And again, it's talking about getting checked out and it shouldn't just be for of course
02:26 November, it should be all the time.
02:28 And of course when they do get diagnosed with certain prostate cancer, they're going to
02:33 be seeing you and you're there to guide them through this treatments that have been around
02:38 for a while but just going back and you're finding it very important for this treatment,
02:42 aren't you?
02:43 Yes, this treatment that I provide, prostate breakthrough therapy, allows men to keep living
02:49 while still undergoing their treatment successfully.
02:52 Men can still be active with their work, with their social lives, their sexual lives and
03:00 therefore it's really important for this treatment to be available for them.
03:03 Yeah, what's really nice too is that even if you are not going through prostate cancer
03:08 treatments, still give a call to you.
03:10 You're here to talk with them, here to guide them for maybe it might be a time they'll
03:14 have to see you and hopefully they don't but that's what I like about you is that you are
03:18 a resource for these men and that's why this month is so important to just give a call
03:22 to you just to kind of like talk about the procedure, talk about things and if they do
03:25 need to get it, how important it is.
03:28 We're here to help.
03:29 Yeah, which is nice.
03:30 And I love that you have a team.
03:31 I mean with Dr. Patel who you had on here, urologists and you two work very well together
03:35 and that's one thing that you work with a lot of different urologists to make sure men
03:39 are getting back to health, don't you?
03:41 That's exactly correct and if there's any way we can help the community, we're here
03:45 to do it.
03:46 Yeah, okay so things we need to do and that is of course get checked out.
03:50 That means go to your doctor.
03:52 Go to your primary care doctor and they can help evaluate you and help discuss what the
03:57 appropriate evaluation is needed.
04:00 You know sometimes for some men the PSA is an appropriate test to go through prostate
04:04 cancer screening and that's a discussion for you and your family physician or primary care
04:09 physician to figure out but the main thing is going there.
04:13 Just getting to your doctor.
04:14 It's very important.
04:15 It is and of course is to take care of our mental health and that's getting checked out
04:19 and talking with our friends and talking with our buddies and stuff.
04:22 It's really nice.
04:23 Doctor, we love that you're part of our Live Well Arizona program too to make sure that
04:27 people in the community are being taken care of throughout of course their health and different
04:32 things they're doing so thank you doctor for coming in.
04:34 Thank you for having me.
04:35 So there you go and of course for more information on the Prostate Cancer Institute of Arizona,
04:39 it's right there on the screen so please men give a call to get checked out.
04:43 So thank you doctor.
04:44 Thank you.
