01:07 In the war that we wage against pests, modern science of course never rests.
01:15 The mosquito, we are told, now is largely controlled through oil.
01:21 Sprayed on swamps it infests.
01:24 The boll weevil, relentlessly lusting, succumbs to a chemical dusting.
01:31 And where the termite carouses, we fumigate houses with gases it finds most disgusting.
01:39 Still, we have no cause to be smug.
01:43 We've invented no poison nor drug to settle the score with one pest we abhor
01:51 and contemptibly call litterbug.
01:55 This strange wingless pest we berate was unwisely endowed its one trait.
02:02 With claw-like transmitters, it holds, tears, and litters.
02:09 On weekends, three times its own weight.
02:14 Of their habits, this much science knows.
02:18 They stay dormant through seasons of snows,
02:21 and find walls that are thick, made of wood or of brick,
02:25 in their nests built in parallel rows.
02:29 [music]
02:34 They emerge in great numbers in spring, and at once start to scampered sing.
02:40 They take pride in their labors, competing with neighbors engaged in the very same thing.
02:46 [music]
02:49 Although proudly, each strives to maintain an immaculate private domain,
02:54 why each one another throws trash on its brother is a paradox none can explain.
03:02 Now, as to the types of litterbugs, most common, the unconscious carrier.
03:10 [music]
03:12 Uses the drop.
03:15 Or the pop and drop.
03:18 It possesses no brain for a barrier.
03:21 And when virus inflated, its litter is carelessly tossed.
03:28 And when tobacco addicted, its trail is not easily lost.
03:33 [music]
03:41 The sports bug.
03:43 Flamboyant and raiment is always loaded for littering entertainment.
03:48 Drop kicking.
03:50 [music]
03:54 A well placed bunt.
03:56 [music]
03:59 Drives that are clicking.
04:02 A javelin stunt.
04:04 [whistle]
04:05 Ouch!
04:06 A four litter man.
04:08 The sneak bug is a, is a sneak.
04:13 Methods polished to perfection.
04:16 Some so smooth in technique they defy human detection.
04:21 Well, it's impossible to follow the sleight of hand action unless we slow down that action a fraction.
04:29 [music]
04:46 The young are harmless, lovable creatures, till their inborn instincts appear and they show their obnoxious features.
04:54 Though receiving no formal training, they achieve amazing results.
04:59 Constantly striving and straining to be as objectionable as the adults.
05:06 [music]
05:08 Summertime is migration time.
05:10 And litter bugs swarm in veritable legions.
05:13 Thousands upon thousands moving on to other regions.
05:18 [music]
05:24 Oh, a frightening experience to be caught in their path.
05:28 The swarm consists of two species, so science teaches.
05:32 One plagues mountains, the other infests beaches.
05:38 The beach bug is attracted by the sparkling white sands and oceans glittering.
05:44 And here it indulges in its favorite pastimes.
05:50 Eating and littering.
05:56 Beach bugs are not nocturnal.
05:58 At sundown they instinctively return to their habitations.
06:02 Archaeologists have unearthed these evidences of previous migrations.
06:07 [music]
06:15 The mountain bug is drawn to woodland splendor where nature is at her best.
06:23 Here it establishes a temporary nest.
06:27 In the crisp mountain air its appetite is far from retarded.
06:31 It eats anything from containers that can be easily discarded.
06:39 Litter bug. Litter bug. Litter bug.
06:44 Litter bug, shame on you.
06:47 Look at the terrible things you do.
06:49 Littering, fluttering every place.
06:52 My, but it's disgraceful.
06:54 Litter bug, litter bug, where's your pride?
06:57 Making a mess of the country side.
06:59 Spoiling and soiling each lovely view.
07:01 Shame, oh shame on you.
07:04 It really makes one wonder what kind of house you keep.
07:09 On every tour the world is your personal garbage heap.
07:13 You've got less litter bug, litter bug, don't you care?
07:17 People must follow you everywhere.
07:19 Cleaning up places that you've gone to.
07:22 Litter bug, shame on you.
07:24 Litter bug, shame on you.
07:27 Litter bug, oh shame on you.
07:34 Litter bug, oh shame on you.
