One of the biggest pieces of scientific research ever in the English uplands will tackle the impacts of extreme weather. Earlier this year, the Woodland Trust started work at Snaizeholme near Hawes, creating one of the largest new native woodlands. Now, and for the next 20 years, scientists are to brave harsh weather conditions in this part of the Yorkshire Dales to monitor how new trees here could help stave off the worst effects of climate change, such as flooding.
