Glasgow headlines 15 November: East End homes evacuated as Police investigate potentially hazardous substance

A number of homes in the city’s East End were evacuated on 14 November after a potentially hazardous substance was found in a property.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police attended the scene on Shettleston Road in Tollcross while surrounding streets were also closed off.

Officers have asked the public to avoid the area in the meantime as inquiries are underway.

Next, newly released figures have revealed that Glasgow City Council has generated almost £500,000 from LEZ fines since the rules were launched in June.

More than 20,000 fines have been issued since 1 June 2023.

And in other news, the performers a this year’s Christmas Light Switch On at George Square have been revealed.

The event will be presented by Clyde 1’s George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie, while the Ariana Grande tribute act, Simply Ariana, country singer-songwriter Kevin McGuire and Michelle McManus will also be making appearances.

The Switch On will be taking place on Sunday 19 November.
