00:00 >> Microphone around you.
00:01 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:11 >> Mike, we asked Kirby about CJ Allen, but just what did you see from him out
00:15 there, the way he was able to play in that game?
00:17 >> CJ Allen played a great game.
00:20 That's kind of what we expected from him, knowing the type of guy he is,
00:23 how hard he works, and how hard he studies and trains.
00:26 But yeah, he played a great game, I kind of expected it from him.
00:28 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:33 >> Yeah, Mike, coach is talking about he feels like you're playing your best
00:36 football right now due to the fact that you kind of had a slow spring,
00:39 didn't really get involved in a slow camp.
00:41 Do you feel like you're playing your best football right now?
00:43 >> Yeah, I kind of feel like I'm adjusting well now,
00:46 like kind of getting back into the flow of things.
00:49 And just can't wait to see what the future has ahead.
00:52 >> Just kind of building off that CJ point, you played a lot of games as
00:56 a freshman starter, a lot of games Malachi did, CJ did.
00:59 Just in general, what does it take for a true freshman to start,
01:02 especially at a place like University of Georgia?
01:04 >> I really just focus and attention to detail.
01:06 You do those two things, you come in with the right attitude,
01:09 you're ready to work, you should be fine.
01:11 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:15 >> Speaking of freshmen, I feel like a guy we've gotten to see a little bit,
01:17 maybe not in this past game, but we've gotten to see a lot of Damon Wilson recently.
01:21 What have you seen from him and
01:22 what would your evaluation of his play be, especially as so young?
01:25 >> Yeah, Damon Wilson's a great player and he has a bright future.
01:28 He works really hard, he trains really hard, he's a great pass rusher.
01:32 And he's gonna be a player to watch.
01:34 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:37 >> Michael, looking at Tennessee, they've run the ball really well this year.
01:40 Just in general, as a defensive lineman, what are the keys to being able to slow
01:43 down a team that has a lot of success on the ground?
01:45 >> Kind of really just stop doing it.
01:49 We gotta win in the trenches, we gotta win up front.
01:51 And that's something we have to do to be able to slow down the run game.
01:56 >> Yes, sir.
01:57 >> What do you remember about the Tennessee game from last year?
01:59 >> They went really fast.
02:02 [LAUGH] They went really fast and they hit us with a couple of explosives.
02:06 I believe Jenna Hyde caught a bomb.
02:08 They were explosive and they were really fast.
02:11 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:19 >> Yeah, Michael over here.
02:20 Coach uses the term getting your cleats in the ground against fast paced teams like
02:23 this, what is the key to getting your cleats in the ground and
02:26 having effective communication?
02:27 >> Exactly that, like getting home and looking for the signal,
02:31 ready to line up and play ball.
02:32 You can't mess around and be looking and celebrating.
02:37 No, you gotta get lined up and you're ready to play and strike.
02:39 That's it.
02:40 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:43 >> I know this is a guy you've been watching a lot, but in the Azure Stackhouse,
02:46 big time sack to kind of flip the momentum this past Saturday, plus the interception.
02:51 What have you learned from a guy like that and how great has it been to see a guy like
02:55 that makes a big time plays these past two weeks?
02:58 >> Yeah, Nas, he's a funny guy.
03:02 But I learned a lot of great things from Nas, simply like how to strain,
03:06 how to push through.
03:07 And he's been showing up a lot recently and he's been working hard.
03:12 Like most of the D line, really all of us, we stay out there and
03:15 run extra every practice and he's been right there with us.
03:18 So I'm glad to see it pay off for him.
03:21 >> Yeah.
03:23 >> Obviously a senior night this past Saturday,
03:25 a lot of the guys that you've been alongside for two years now,
03:27 this is their last game in Sanford, stuff like that.
03:29 Just what is their mentorship and leadership meant to you in your young
03:31 career so far?
03:32 >> Yeah, it meant a lot, especially guys like where all my seniors like Zion Lowe,
03:36 Jermell Watt, Warren Branson, Nasir Stackhouse, all those guys, they meant a lot.
03:41 I learned a lot from them.
03:42 I learned how to be more of a vet from those guys.
03:45 I really appreciate everything they taught me.
03:46 >> Do you guys talk about doing better on the first series on defense?
03:52 I know other teams have had some success.
03:54 Is that something that you guys kind of just shake off or
03:56 something you guys focus on?
03:57 >> Yeah, that's something we stress.
03:59 We stress ways to figure out how to start off faster in the first half and
04:03 in the second.
04:04 Coming up with a challenge like Tennessee, that's something they do really well.
04:07 They start off fast and they're explosive fast.
04:09 And we gotta learn how to, well not learn, but we have to affect and control that.
04:14 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:22 >> I know Nolan was back in town and I'm sure it was great to see him.
04:25 But I also wanted to ask, a guy like Jordan Davis,
04:28 a guy that was here before you really got to get settled in.
04:31 What is it like when these former players and
04:34 especially players that you played with come back?
04:36 What kind of energy does it really feed you guys,
04:39 especially before games like Ole Miss?
04:41 >> It was great that you asked that question,
04:42 because we were kind of talking about this in the locker room before.
04:45 We seen Nolan, Nolan was in there trying to get us hyped being Nolan.
04:48 He went around screaming.
04:50 We was like, there ain't no way we're gonna lose this game.
04:51 [LAUGH] That's what we said.
04:53 And then having those guys like Jordan Davis and Malik Heron,
04:56 all those guys over there just giving us a little leadership.
04:58 Telling us a little thing like rip and reach, little techniques.
05:01 It helps a lot.
05:03 And just be able to look over there for their mentorship.
05:05 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:11 >> Obviously, you and Marvin were the same recruiting class.
05:14 Just wanted to see how long you guys have been talking about lining up on the edges
05:17 together.
05:17 And then now that you guys are finally here,
05:19 lining up on bookends on the defensive line at UGA, how does it feel?
05:22 >> Man, it feels great.
05:23 And we were talking about it for a while, since high school.
05:25 And finally have it come to fruition, it's great.
05:28 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:32 >> Any more questions for Mike Allen?
05:33 All right, thank you.
05:35 >> Appreciate y'all.
