00:00 In a surprising twist, Jacob Elordi is coming under fire for a comment he made during his
00:05 GQ interview.
00:06 Following the success of Priscilla and ahead of his performance in Saltburn, GQ released
00:11 an interview with the 26-year-old Australian actor for GQ's Men of the Year.
00:16 And a lot of ground is covered in this interview, from his meteoric rise in Hollywood to his
00:21 recent obsession with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' mutant mayhem.
00:25 But fans are picking up on one thing he said in particular about the film trilogy that
00:29 launched his career, The Kissing Booth.
00:31 Elordi said, "I didn't want to make those movies before I made those movies.
00:36 Those movies are ridiculous.
00:37 They're not universal.
00:38 They're an escape."
00:39 A lot of users online understood what the 6'5" actor was saying, especially since
00:44 his role of teen heartthrob with abs in The Kissing Booth isn't necessarily the dream
00:49 acting gig for a serious thespian.
00:52 And then there's always the fear of getting typecasted in YA, or young adult, media.
00:58 But nonetheless, a large portion of his fanbase felt hurt by these comments, as it's another
01:02 instance of a star-bashing media that younger girls tend to like.
01:07 Fans pointed this out, as well as the fact that these movies launched his career and
01:10 gave him a fanbase in the first place.
01:13 And others made note that recent films he's starred in are also "definitely not universal
01:18 and definitely an escape."
