00:00 I don't know, Nick. The Starburst maneuver's banned for a reason.
00:03 Pulling it off would make us legends.
00:05 You're already a legend.
00:07 I think it's really exciting the way Mike McMahon
00:10 weaves previous Star Trek characters into our episodes.
00:15 It just feels like little presents that we get to wrap up and give to the fans.
00:19 Being part of the legacy of Star Trek has been the greatest joy.
00:28 As much as we're in favor of joining the Federation,
00:31 the Grand Nagus can't sign with a bunch of suckers and rubes.
00:34 I've always loved this role.
00:36 I was originally up for the role of a Bajoran Dabo girl,
00:40 which was the role of Marta.
00:41 And then I heard that they wrote the role of Leta for me.
00:46 She's got this heart of gold, but she's fun, and she's no pushover.
00:50 We're not going back to work until this is settled.
00:53 Just the fact that Leta is with Rom,
00:56 and to stand by Nag with all he's gone through,
01:00 for Leta to become the mother of a boy who went off to war,
01:06 is so not a Dabo girl.
01:08 And I think it's the most Star Trek message
01:11 that we are so much more than we seem.
01:14 I'm the former Dabo girl running the show, and what is better than that?
01:18 We'll start on page 11, subsection B.
01:20 "Incentivization vis-a-vis the great Ferengi people
01:22 and our reluctant acceptance of your Federation."
01:25 She means brides.
01:26 I can't believe where the show has taken us.
01:31 I love it.
01:32 Quick, lackeys, carry me to the shuttle!
01:35 I saw the premiere of the original Star Trek
01:38 when I was a young teenager, and it had a verve about it.
01:44 A kind of energy and a leaning forward into the material from the actors.
01:51 And it's contagious, and I've tried to bring that kind of spirit and tone
01:57 to every character that I've done in the Star Trek universe.
02:01 You are an incredible thespian!
02:04 Oh, he's that guy? Wait a minute.
02:06 He's that guy over there, too? I never knew that.
02:09 That's the best for me, when people don't know that I'm Shran and Weyoun,
02:14 and Brunt, and Agamas.
02:17 We have to find Locarno.
02:19 Who?
02:20 Mr. Locarno was drummed out of the Academy
02:22 for getting another student killed during a prohibited flight maneuver.
02:25 You know, a lot of people thought Tom Paris was Nick Locarno.
02:28 You know, they still think that.
02:30 - They're identical. - No, I just don't see it.
02:32 As I understand it, the producers, they loved that episode.
02:36 And they talked about bringing Nick Locarno on to Deep Space Nine.
02:39 Are we ready for that?
02:41 They decided not to, it didn't quite fit.
02:43 And so I think the studio decided for Voyager that,
02:46 "Hey, let's bring back sort of Nick Locarno,
02:48 but let's call him a new name."
02:50 Fans would ask me, like, "Oh, are you playing a version of Nick Locarno?"
02:55 And my answer was, "Absolutely not."
02:58 Tom Paris would never have been the big bad in this episode.
03:01 It was not possible.
03:02 Nick? What the hell are you doing here?
03:04 When Mike called me, and he said, "I have this idea,
03:08 but I don't want to write it unless you're interested."
03:10 And he sort of pitched me out this whole season arc
03:13 of this mysterious bad guy coming around now to do Nick Locarno again
03:19 and voice such a clearly evil character in this Lower Decks version.
03:26 It was so much fun.
03:27 - How do I look? - Confident, but, you know, like in a creepy way.
03:30 Perfect. I think the fans are gonna love it.
03:33 I hope they do. I had a blast doing it.
03:36 My favorite memories of Star Trek, my time on Voyager in those years,
03:40 are the people.
03:42 The ensemble aspect of it, the camaraderie.
03:46 As much fun as the show was and still is, it's the moments with the fans.
03:50 There's nothing else quite like Star Trek in terms of its history.
03:55 And Lower Decks is definitely one of my favorite new versions
04:00 because you can tell any story you want.
04:02 You can go anywhere in the world you want, do anything you want.
04:05 I think it's just so clever.
04:08 Whatever. Who cares?
04:09 Lower Decks can have you laughing and crying in the same five minutes.
04:13 It's so beautifully full.
