00:00 We have offensive lineman Tomas Remack.
00:03 Questions for Tomas?
00:04 So, Tomas, obviously so much expected
00:06 out of this offensive line this year.
00:08 Lived up to expectations maybe other than this week.
00:13 Where have you guys been in that, in your regards?
00:15 You know, I feel like,
00:16 especially in the offensive line room,
00:18 we're always just pushing each other each day, in and out,
00:21 and we've had up and downs all year,
00:24 especially this past Saturday.
00:25 We didn't perform nearly as well as we wanted to,
00:30 and that's just something we've got to look back on,
00:31 and just we can't forget about it
00:34 because we have to learn from our mistakes.
00:36 So, this week, we're just really focusing on getting,
00:38 like, putting our heads down and work,
00:39 pushing each other to get better for this game on Saturday.
00:43 Why was there problems this past week?
00:46 Can you point to something?
00:47 I feel like this past week on Saturday, we just, like I said,
00:52 we didn't play nearly as well as we have played,
00:54 and that could go back to a number of things,
00:57 like earlier in the week,
01:00 we practiced well as a team and as a unit,
01:03 and just Saturday, we didn't perform
01:04 nearly as well as we should have,
01:06 and that's just something we have to, like, think about
01:09 and use as, like, motivation this week,
01:12 just work harder and go perform on Saturday.
01:15 What did they do that gave you guys issues?
01:20 I just feel like they're a really good team
01:23 on both sides of the ball, and on defense,
01:26 they moved really well.
01:27 They had a lot of stunts, and they just cut it to them.
01:31 They played really well.
01:32 You were hurt earlier this year.
01:36 How difficult was it to sit out,
01:38 and what was the rehab to come back?
01:40 Yeah, sitting out, nobody likes it.
01:43 You know, it's just the rehab.
01:45 I was in rehab three times a day for about two weeks,
01:48 and still in there twice a day.
01:51 It's just, like, for me,
01:53 it just, like, sucks watching from the sideline.
01:56 I mean, but when you're in that position,
01:58 you just got to, like, see where you can help the team,
02:01 even if you're not playing.
02:02 So, like, during practice, you see, like, a look.
02:05 You can give someone advice that they might not have seen.
02:07 It might just help them down the line.
02:09 The experience you've gained this year,
02:15 obviously, you were starting last year,
02:17 but the experience you feel like you're better now,
02:21 what do you see different?
02:22 How do you perform differently
02:23 now that you have that experience?
02:25 Yeah, I feel like since I've been starting for a little bit
02:29 now, everything just seemed to slow down this year
02:32 compared to last year, and I feel like as a player,
02:36 I'm better, but not, like, where I want to be.
02:39 I obviously want to keep growing and becoming a better player
02:42 and just continue to work on the fundamentals
02:44 and things that I need to keep working on.
02:47 Did Oklahoma do anything
02:53 that you weren't expecting defensively?
02:55 I mean, there were times out there
02:58 when you guys looked a little lost.
03:00 Well, I feel like I was saying earlier,
03:03 Oklahoma, they have a good defense,
03:05 and I feel like they didn't do anything
03:06 that we didn't really see all year,
03:09 but they just did a really good job
03:11 on doing a bunch of different things.
03:13 Like, we didn't see the same, like, stun or blitz,
03:16 like, multiple times,
03:17 so I feel like they did a really good job at that.
03:20 Did they surprise you, then?
03:21 They just -- Did they surprise you
03:23 with that they were better than what you saw?
03:25 Well, I wouldn't say we were surprised on, like,
03:28 like they were better than what we saw on film.
03:30 We knew they were a good team, but they just --
03:33 Like I said, they just did a really good job
03:35 of, like, disguising their stunts.
03:37 Usually some teams would like to give their, like, stunts away.
03:41 It was like some of them are, like, leaning one way or another.
03:44 They did a really good job disguising that.
03:46 I know you didn't grow up near Cincinnati,
03:52 but you're still from Ohio, so did Cincinnati recruit you?
03:56 What's the thoughts of going into this game this week?
04:00 Early in my recruiting process,
04:02 I talked to one of the coaches from there,
04:06 but right now it's a whole new staff,
04:08 but I don't -- It's just another Saturday game
04:11 that we have to go out and perform
04:12 and redeem ourselves from last Saturday.
04:16 You see any film of them?
04:17 What's their defense look like?
04:19 Yeah, they have a good defense.
04:22 Their record obviously isn't what they want it to be,
04:24 but that doesn't take away from their defense.
04:26 They have a good defense, especially their front seven.
04:30 They play hard. They're fast.
04:32 And that's something we have to prepare for
04:34 throughout this week so we can hopefully
04:36 have a better outcome than last Saturday.
04:41 You mentioned your front seven.
04:43 They've got some guys that are possibly NFL guys.
04:45 Mm-hmm.
04:46 You talked about that amongst yourself,
04:47 how you got to deal with those guys?
04:50 Yeah, we talked about that a little bit yesterday,
04:53 and we're just watching film.
04:55 We'll watch film today, and I watched a little bit
04:57 earlier today on them, and that's just something
05:00 we need to continue to study the film
05:02 because we know they're good up front,
05:04 and we just got to see, like, work on the best ways
05:08 and how we could block them
05:10 so we have the best chance of running the ball,
05:12 passing the ball.
05:14 From what you've seen so far,
05:15 do they do a lot of the exotic stuff,
05:17 just disguising the things that Oklahoma did?
05:19 Have you seen any of that from them at all?
05:21 Well, I feel like every team has something
05:23 that they do different,
05:25 but Cincinnati, they do a really good job.
05:28 They play hard, fast, physical,
05:29 and they play with really good hand and pad leverage,
05:33 so that's something that we're going to have to take
05:35 into account this week when we're practicing
05:37 just to really focus on those things.
05:39 When you're studying them,
05:41 are they a team that you kind of have to focus in
05:43 on a little bit more how they are recently
05:45 than the entire body of work,
05:46 and then maybe how have you noticed
05:48 that they've changed if you've watched them?
05:50 Yeah, I haven't watched a ton of them.
05:52 I just started watching them today,
05:53 but I feel like any time you're watching a team,
05:56 you have to watch, like, the most recent weeks
05:59 because everybody gets better throughout the year goes
06:02 because you're just playing more football,
06:04 and I just feel like you have to watch the last few games
06:06 because they're playing.
06:07 They're good on defense, especially their front seven,
06:10 so it's just honing in on what they're doing
06:12 and how to get that upper hand on them.
06:15 How have you recovered from your ankle?
06:16 You're back to where you were earlier in the year?
06:19 Yeah, yeah, I would say that, yeah.
06:20 No issues? No, no, thank you.
06:22 One of the things when we talked to you,
06:29 maybe even in preseason, you talked about woodworking.
06:33 Anything in the fall?
06:34 Do you even have time to have fun with that?
06:36 No, there's not enough time in the fall.
06:37 It's an off-season project.
06:39 Right now it's just football and school.
06:43 You collect the wood, even,
06:44 have it in the back ready to do something?
06:46 I have some left over from the last off-season,
06:49 but I haven't got any more since then.
06:52 Okay, anything else?
06:59 Thank you.
