00:02 We are now under the Maltzan Palace,
00:06 a beautifully restored building,
00:10 one of the most important historical objects in the Baryczy Valley.
00:14 There are many different stories associated with this palace,
00:18 but probably the most important figure who lived in this palace
00:24 was Countess Maria von Maltzan.
00:27 A rebellious rebel, a veterinarian,
00:31 known for a long time mainly among veterinarians and historians,
00:37 and later among people interested in literature.
00:43 It happened thanks to a book written by her,
00:46 thanks to the memoirs entitled "Be verbal and don't be afraid".
00:53 I highly recommend this book.
00:57 It is read as an adventure story,
01:02 a worthwhile action,
01:04 with a lot of interesting information about Milic,
01:07 his history, his life in the early 20th century in this area.
01:16 We also learn a lot of curiosities about the Countess herself.
01:23 We meet her as a great individualist, feminist,
01:31 a very humble figure who has shown herself many times in her life
01:37 with great courage,
01:39 especially when she saved the lives of Jews.
01:46 She even endangered her own life several times.
01:51 It is interesting that she hid her husband, who was a Jew,
01:57 for a long time in a Versailles, appropriately adapted for this.
02:03 Countess Maria von Maltzan was known for her activity,
02:08 and she was honoured with the title of the Righteous Among the Nations of the World.
02:14 Thanks to her book, she became one of the most important figures from Milic.
02:23 It is worth reading this book when you come to our city,
02:28 before seeing this beautiful object,
02:32 because then we have a broader perspective
02:35 and we learn a lot about the palace, the Countess and Milic.
02:40 She showed her love for animals and her rude character
02:46 already in her early childhood.
02:51 I will tell you an anecdote.
02:54 One day she saw her brother suffering from animals.
03:02 She threw him out of revenge to the river flowing next to the palace,
03:07 holding him by the legs and shouting that it was all for the punishment.
03:12 That was her revenge.
03:15 I know from her distant relatives, close and distant relatives,
03:20 that she was also very specific in her behavior every day
03:25 and did not care about the opinion of other people.
03:30 She lived with various wild animals.
03:33 She kept a tiger at home, for example,
03:36 with which she went for walks on Berlin streets,
03:39 although it is hard to imagine.
03:42 She lived with a monkey, a parrot and probably many other animals.
