Quarterback trainer Tony Racioppi, who trained New York Giants QB Tommy DeVito, discusses what game plan elements he'd include to ensure the rookie's success in his starting debut.
Transcript
00:00 Brian Dable said that, you know, after Daniel's injury, and they decided to go with Tommy
00:06 as their starter, that he met with him.
00:08 Kafka met with him, Mike Kafka, the offensive coordinator, Shay Tierney, they all sat down
00:14 with him.
00:15 And they asked him, okay, what do you like to run?
00:19 What don't you like?
00:21 So on that note, Tony, how do you anticipate the offense being tweaked to suit Tommy's
00:27 strengths as opposed to what they were maybe running with Daniel as the quarterback?
00:31 Sure, great question.
00:33 And listen, that's really good coaching.
00:35 You know, it's, you know, you want to, you want to know what the quarterback is comfortable
00:40 with.
00:41 And I appreciate those guys doing that, because sometimes in that profession, it's here's
00:45 my offense, here are my plays, and you better run them right.
00:49 You know, so it's, it's getting a feel for what the quarterback likes.
00:52 And like I said, I think Tommy likes to get the ball out quickly, which is a good thing.
00:57 I think Tommy likes to get his feet set quickly and, you know, throw stuff under 22 yards.
01:03 And again, I'm not trying to cap the fact that he can't throw a deep ball, but he does
01:08 a really good job of processing information, see the coverage, throw to the open guy on
01:13 time.
01:14 And that's, that's his game.
01:15 That's his strength.
01:16 And I think that's a good strength to have, you know, so I can see a lot of RPO stuff,
01:20 especially early in the game.
01:23 You know, if they play man to man against us, you know, if things break down, he's able
01:28 to kind of take off and pick up first downs.
01:30 I think that's something to see too, you know, early in the game, you know, third and seven,
01:34 obviously a lot of, a lot of man to man in the NFL, you know, maybe seeing a cover one
01:37 or cover or two man, you know, if he's able to kind of take off and get first downs, that
01:42 sometimes that stops people from playing man because of that.
01:44 And then obviously makes things a little bit easier for him as far as zone coverage and,
01:49 you know, moving linebackers with his eyes, you know.
01:52 So I'm excited for what he can bring to the table.
