00:00 I'm Laurie Blake, welcome to the WrestleTalk News, on Fridays we wear pink.
00:10 It's almost the end of the year and 'tis the season for contracts to come up in AEW
00:16 as we've seen a bunch of talent, including AEW originals, reach the end of their terms
00:20 with the company.
00:21 The latest is another name that seems to be quietly bowing out rather than, y'know,
00:26 slinging all the muck as they go.
00:28 Eagle Eyed Browsers noticed that The Bunny, one of the first women to join AEW in March
00:32 2019, quietly had her roster page removed.
00:35 She'd previously sat between Taya Valkyrie and Thunder Rosa.
00:38 And now look, no Bunny!
00:40 Someone make the rabbit disappear!
00:41 PWInsider did some digging and they discovered that The Bunny has officially departed AEW,
00:46 with sources noting that the two sides mutually agreed to part ways with no further details
00:51 being added.
00:52 So it could be a case of her feeling like her time in the company is done, a lack of
00:56 good creative or a better offer from elsewhere.
01:02 Bunny's real life partner The Blade is still with AEW though, and still teaming with The
01:06 Butcher.
01:07 The pair even worked a dark match on Dynamite this week, so what does that mean?
01:11 The Bunny joins a list of recent AEW exiters that include Jade Cargill, Lexus King aka
01:16 Brian Pillman Jr, and because I had to tell you that bit, that rebrand hasn't gone so
01:21 well, Sonny Kiss and Brock Anderson.
01:23 Cargill and Pillman have both made their way to WWE, Sonny Kiss has appeared in Impact,
01:27 while Brock Anderson has yet to surface in another wrestling company.
01:31 And that is some rotten glock, I mean luck.
01:34 I'm not saying this is the case, but there is a notion going around that AEW doesn't
01:37 have space on its roster for all of these talents, or room to give them the creative
01:41 and storylines.
01:42 It's hard to buy into as AEW has so much bloody television.
01:47 And on top of that it's got Ring of Honor, which has admittedly yet to secure a TV deal.
01:52 Not for lack of trying.
01:53 On the parts of TV execs, seemingly as a new report from House of Wrestling claims that
01:57 the CW, they have just signing up NXT for a 70% increased media rights deal, as well
02:02 as nabbing the NWA, apparently made some overtures.
02:06 Tony Khan about Ring of Honor.
02:08 The report said that the high level CW exec, probably Arrow himself no doubt, approached
02:13 Khan at the LA Forum in 2022 about the possibility of bringing Ring of Honor to the network.
02:18 However, Khan reportedly didn't pursue the talks as he doesn't want to entertain new
02:23 deals for ROH until the AEW television rights are in play in 2024.
02:29 Khan is also said to believe that by waiting he will have more options and leverage in
02:34 the marketplace.
02:35 Of course on the flip side, Khan might also find himself in a world in which he's trying
02:38 to hawk wrestling and people are like, nah mate I've already got one.
02:42 In fact I've got two.
02:44 And CW's double whammy of wrestling content hasn't gone unnoticed by one former NWA talent
02:49 who departed the company under a dark cloud only to join up with the WWE.
02:55 Nick Aldis, the former NWA World's Heavyweight Champion, was suspended by the company after
03:00 publicly announcing that he'd asked for his release and criticising the brand and dubbing
03:04 it "toxic" on social media.
03:07 With the new announcement, Aldis took a few pops at the in-house competition at CW, posting
03:11 a video of a graphic of the NXT logo coming soon to CW with the NWA's theme music laying
03:17 over the top.
03:20 On the subject of NXT and it's shiny new TV deal, there's been some questions as
03:24 to what this means for the promotion going forward and if there will be any major changes.
03:29 There's already been reports saying that the plan is to keep NXT on Tuesday night,
03:33 so that bit's going to remain the same, but now there's talks about where it's
03:37 going to take place.
03:38 This is just speculation, so take it with a healthy pinch of salt, but educated speculation
03:42 from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio who spoke about what NXT could do with all
03:47 this lovely new money they're getting, including potentially taking NXT on tour.
03:52 He said "Let's talk about taking them touring with the extra money.
03:56 I told you."
03:57 He said there's pluses and minuses of it.
03:59 The pluses are, if it looks good and it looks better, because the look of the TV show is
04:03 very important when it comes to viewership, so moving to bigger places will help to a
04:07 degree.
04:08 Meltzer also mentioned the scope for more tickets being sold for bigger arenas and whether
04:11 that extra revenue would offset the cost of travelling from town to town, but with new
04:15 money coming in it does seem more affordable to do it now.
04:19 However, he did also mention one big negative.
04:22 He said if you were taking the people out of town with the travel days and everything
04:26 like that, it does give them less days in the gym, and it does take a lot of the people
04:31 who work with a talent away for a couple of days.
04:34 Simple answer, just skip leg day.
04:36 Skip it.
04:37 No one needs it.
04:38 Obviously to mitigate that they could potentially just run their shows in Florida arenas, as
04:42 the PC is located in Florida.
04:44 However, Meltzer also pointed out that would be a case of diminishing returns and you could
04:49 only run that market so many times before the audience becomes burnt out.
04:53 Tell that to Full Sail University.
04:56 So it's a bit of an interesting question mark hanging over NXT's future right now,
04:59 and while they've done the occasional out of town show for their special pay-per-views,
05:03 perhaps we could at the very least see more travel for TV specials and such going forward.
05:08 We'll just have to wait and see.
05:10 But while NXT may be staying put on Tuesday night, things aren't so set in stone for
05:14 Smackdown with their new TV deal with the USA Network.
05:17 Because here's the thing, after the deal was originally announced, reports indicated
05:21 that there weren't any plans for Smackdown to move from the Friday night slot that it
05:24 currently has on Fox.
05:26 However, that may be about to change.
05:29 Thanks again to more Dave Meltzer speculation.
05:39 On Wrestling Observer Radio, Uncle Meltz mentioned that there could be a chance that Smackdown
05:42 is moved off of Fridays because TKO are considering a package deal idea for WWE and UFC pay-per-views,
05:49 with a WWE pay-per-view taking place on a Friday night and a UFC pay-per-view in the
05:53 same location on a Saturday night on any given weekend.
05:57 Does that make our lives easier?
06:00 That might make our lives easier.
06:01 That of course wouldn't leave room for Smackdown on Friday nights anymore, so it would most
06:04 likely get shifted to another day, perhaps back to its old Thursday night slot.
06:10 That would make our lives easier.
06:12 Meanwhile in the ongoing Vince and TKO saga of who's really got the power here, following
06:16 on from TKO's new SEC filing listing Vince McMahon's presence on the board of directors
06:20 as a risk factor, as well as the allegations against him, it seems old Vinny M has decided
06:25 to sell off a lot of his shares of TKO stock.
06:28 8,400,000 of them.
06:31 That is.
06:32 That's a buttload of stock.
06:33 But that only equates to about 30% of his company's shares.
06:37 In the company's filing they note that the most recently reported stock price was $84.60
06:42 per share, which has dropped a little to just over $80 per share according to Brandon Thurston
06:46 of WrestleNomics.
06:47 But even so, if all of those shares get sold, that is roughly $700 million that Vinny Mac
06:54 is taking home to the bank.
06:55 That's going to buy you a lot of moustache wax.
06:57 TKO itself can buy some of those shares back, and it intends to, noting in the same filing
07:02 that they have interest to purchase $10 million worth of it back, as well as Ari Emanuel,
07:06 the CEO, and Mark Shapiro, the President and COO, wanting to buy a million dollars worth
07:11 of stock each as well.
07:13 And it's just yet more signs that Vince's power and control in TKO is diminishing.
07:18 With him being listed as this risk factor, Ari Emanuel blaming Vince's power to sell
07:22 his share soon as the reason why the stock price was down overall.
07:26 And now that share selling is bloody happening.
07:28 It's been said before, but I'm going to say it again, I really think this might be
07:32 the end of Vince's control over WWE.
07:34 While we're on the subject of business, there was an ongoing $250 million lawsuit
07:38 filed against both WWE and AEW.
07:41 Did you know about that?
07:42 The lawsuit was filed for plagiarism, market damages, product damages, personal damages
07:46 and financial damages by Anthony Dwayne Wilson.
07:49 Now you might be thinking, wow, that sounds very serious.
07:52 What's going on here?
07:54 That is until you read the filing itself, which has now been dismissed three months
07:57 after it was filed.
07:58 And here is just a snippet.
08:02 "WWE and AEW are still using infringing works of mine, claiming they created these
08:06 things and are not crediting me or paying for them.
08:09 These things have cost me fans and income.
08:11 I am a writer and professional wrestler.
08:13 My creative works are my livelihood.
08:15 I am seeking control of AEW and removal of stolen works, a public apology and a financial
08:21 settlement for damages.
08:22 My works and career will see until I retire.
08:25 WWE board chair, WWE stock for freelance work and business tactics of mine.
08:30 Return all ships and plunder."
08:32 So he wants control of AEW, I think he might have seen one too many wrestling storylines.
08:37 He also wants to return all ships and plunder.
08:39 What does that mean?
08:40 There was a D on the 'and' in that bit.
08:42 Later on business briefly as following on from the news that Raw's Fatal 4-Way match
08:46 had a botched finish after Ricochet was knocked to loopy, speculation began about what was
08:50 actually supposed to have happened.
08:51 Because it seemed as if there was supposed to be a double pin with Ivar and The Miz both
08:55 getting the win at the same time.
08:57 And now that has been confirmed by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, who mentioned
09:01 that the original plan was for Ivar and Miz to get pins and then the two to face each
09:05 other on Raw which The Miz would win, setting up the Gunther vs. Miz match for Survivor
09:09 Series which has now just been confirmed.
09:11 Anywho.
09:12 It all worked out in the end.
09:14 And finally today some congratulations go out to Carmella and Corey Graves who have
09:18 welcomed their new baby boy into the world.
09:21 The pair, whose real names are Leah Van Dale and Matthew Polinsky, shared the first photo
09:25 of their new son on Instagram, who's named Dimitri Paul Polinsky.
09:29 Once again congratulations to Carmella and Corey and welcome to the world Dimitri.
09:33 That's a nice way to end the news on a Friday.
09:36 Happy bloody Friday folks and if you want to watch more from us click the video over
