The conversation surrounding artificial intelligence continues, with many of us having even used it ourselves. It can be a helpful tool, but what is the future for the tech? A recent discussion between Rishi Sunak and Elon Musk saw the latter claiming it could mean the end of work as we know it - is this the future you'd like to see?

00:00 I would not be happy if AI took my job to be honest because at the end of the day we
00:07 push ourselves through these education systems to get a job that can sustain us and you know
00:12 take us to the next level in our life. Why are we going to let AI let it succumb to that
00:18 you know what I mean? What would you do if you didn't go to work?
00:21 No I mean you have to go to work to do something. Even if it's not the best job in the world
00:25 you still have to, well you don't have to do it but it gets you to us so something like
00:30 that. The more we go into AI I think the more we
00:33 are going to be putting people out of jobs but another thing is I tend to wonder if we
00:40 carry on and carry on on AI is AI soon going to take over and rule?
00:45 In a recent survey conducted by YouGov six in ten people were found to expect more jobs
00:50 will be lost to robotics and AI than will be created in the near future. Among workers
00:55 themselves 62% expect more jobs to be lost than gained yet when they're asked whether
01:01 jobs like their own will primarily be done by humans or by robots or AI 30 years from
01:05 now the majority still see a human future. Here's what some of you lot think.
01:11 AI take over if I didn't have to work? I think no it all sounds very tempting but I think
01:17 I've been a teacher and I've had a very satisfying career and I wouldn't have wanted to miss
01:22 that by a robot. Because I studied mechatronics engineering
01:27 at a university and there's like I'm in the automation stream but there's the AI stream
01:32 as well. Yeah I mean obviously chat GPT is like the really big AI platform that's being
01:38 spoken about at the moment. I think it's good for efficiency but I also think it does impact
01:43 like students learning in the best like over reliant. So I think yeah like automation for
01:48 sure is a positive thing in the workplace but AI yeah like does have a lot of positives
01:56 but also does need to be controlled so that it doesn't you know we don't become too over
02:02 reliant. When I retired there used to be 10 people
02:04 working in our office when I first started. This is going back 30 years ago. And as internet
02:11 came so a few people left and we kept getting new programs and when I left only two people
02:19 worked in that office. So the machines that they brought in did a hell of a lot of the
02:24 work which is really scary. In the future yeah if AI can take some of those job roles
02:28 as long as people are properly supported and the government reacts and legislates appropriately
02:32 for AI then I think yeah it could be really positive in the workplace and maybe taking
02:37 some of those some of those job roles as well. I've used chat GPT before. I think everyone
02:43 has but like I don't think I don't know I don't I think it's negative because it's not
02:49 it's just like a computer. Yeah I think it comes in handy for things like little questions
02:54 but then I think it's like it could go weird because I think there's a sense of it that's
02:59 like people aren't really thinking for themselves anymore.
