00:00 The 2023 Cricket World Cup is nearing its end and what a year it has been for players
00:06 of Indian descent.
00:07 We saw some outstanding performances from new players this year.
00:11 We have Keshav Maharaj from South Africa and Rachindra Vindh from New Zealand.
00:15 Anil Teja Nidamanuru, however, was one of the names that appeared on the pitch while
00:20 donning the orange Netherlands jersey.
00:23 Netherlands' World Cup journey has been above the mark this year, but Anil Teja was a name
00:28 everyone had a look upon.
00:30 In his 2022 ODI debut, he scored a 50 against West Indies in Amstelveen.
00:36 After 21-day internationals, Nidamanuru had already amassed 501 runs at an average of
00:41 29.47.
00:44 He has two centuries and two 50s under his belt.
00:48 In addition to his century against the West Indies, he has also scored 110 runs of 96
00:53 balls against Zimbabwe in the Cricket World Cup Super League series.
00:58 Also he is on the list of players with the highest individual ODI score in successful
01:01 run chases while batting at No. 7 or lower.
01:04 He has surpassed Glenn Maxwell and Abdul Razak.
01:08 In an exclusive chit-chat, we discussed with Anil Teja his journey and his Cricket World
01:12 Cup homecoming moment in an exclusive interview with him.
01:15 While chatting with Teja, we discussed how his first match in India was quite a homecoming.
01:20 His mother and other family members were in the stands cheering for him and his team.
01:25 Here is how he described his feeling.
01:28 Amazing.
01:31 Grateful.
01:35 Very much something that I've been looking forward to.
01:41 It's been, I don't think they've ever been to a live cricket game.
01:46 So it was a lot of firsts for me and especially being a World Cup in India and being born
01:55 here and to be able to come back and to be able to play in front of them is something
02:02 that I will remember for the rest of my life.
02:06 And the feeling of it is just pure happiness and joy really.
02:12 And yeah, I feel proud as well.
02:14 So which I'm really, yeah, that's the way I would describe it.
02:20 Then we questioned Mr. Teja about how he became part of the Netherlands cricket team.
02:24 He talked about his own experience and disclosed that it wasn't an easy journey at all.
02:30 Look my cricketing journey hasn't happened in a very straight line.
02:34 It's had a few different journeys and it's had a few different turns.
02:39 And the one word that I've had to have or the quality that I have to have is resilience
02:45 and being able to find a way and being able to find an answer or find a different direction
02:51 or find a way to make things happen.
02:54 So I think my cricket journey is filled with resilience, hard work and determination.
03:02 I think these things is what has made me to be where I am today.
03:10 I took a risk in moving to the Netherlands and leaving everything that I've worked hard
03:14 for in New Zealand behind.
03:17 But within that, I've now been able to contribute to the Netherlands team success and win games
03:25 and perform well and to be able to be in India experiencing a World Cup with good teammates
03:31 and with a great team is something that I hugely value and an experience that I will
03:37 not forget anytime soon.
03:42 And for me, I actually see this as a start of my career in many ways because there's
03:47 a lot more that I'd like to achieve in the next four years as well as now.
03:53 So definitely, definitely looking forward to it.
03:57 That's how I describe it.
03:58 A lot more hard work and resilience to be shown yet.
04:01 We also asked him about how he sees the future of Dutch cricket team and how World Cup 2023
04:07 will reap positive outcomes for the Netherlands.
04:09 I think it will create some aspiration.
04:12 It will create some dreams.
04:14 It will create a stage where people can aspire to and want to be a part of.
04:20 Dutch cricket right now is positive, is hardworking, is open-minded and both the office and the
04:30 players and everyone involved are trying to create a better future and more of a launch
04:36 pad for people coming through.
04:39 There's a lot of work that needs to be done and with funding or being an associate nation
04:45 and everything else, there's a lot of challenges that we face.
04:50 There are a lot of things that aren't as straightforward as one would seem or one would like them to
04:58 be.
04:59 So we have to be creative.
05:00 We have to allow for different scenarios.
05:05 So yeah, but definitely on an upward rise in a positive way is how I would describe
05:14 Dutch cricket and the potential of it and going forward.
05:18 Lastly, we wanted to know Teja's opinion of his mother's support.
05:23 Teja's mother has stated despite being an Indian, she will be rooting for his son's
05:27 victory given that Netherlands final World Cup match will be against India.
05:31 This is what Teja has to say about it.
05:33 Yeah, look, my mum obviously, you have to support your son, right?
05:40 And I think at the end of the day, obviously me being able to do well and obviously India
05:47 is a place that I'm from and it's also a place that I'm born as well.
05:52 And yeah, look, I think it's more to do with it being her own son and the team that
06:03 he's playing for and very proud to be representing the Netherlands.
06:07 So yeah, I'm glad that we have that support because there are a billion people in India
06:13 that will be supporting for India.
06:14 So yeah, I'm glad that she's answered that.
