In the November 8 edition of the Locked On Giants podcast, guest Ed Valentine of Big Blue View talks about the head-scratching decision made by the New York Giants in their handling of player load management dating back to the spring.
Transcript
00:00 One of the things that drove me a little nuts in the summer
00:05 and even in the spring was the NBA style load management
00:10 stuff that was going on in training camp
00:15 and throughout the spring.
00:17 And curiously, if you think back on August
00:22 on those practices, Patty,
00:26 one guy who really wasn't being load managed
00:29 was Darren Waller.
00:30 He was out there almost every single day,
00:34 very rarely getting a day off,
00:36 very rarely getting back down.
00:39 And yet we find out once the season comes
00:43 that he has long-term,
00:45 I think he said he has long-term nerve damage
00:48 in that original hamstring injury that he has to manage.
00:52 And now he's dealing with a hamstring injury
00:56 on the other side.
00:57 And I don't know that one leads to the other,
01:00 but again, it's a curious decision
01:03 because you look at a guy with an injury history
01:08 and it felt like they were pushing a player
01:11 with an injury history
01:12 while they were backing off on some other guys.
01:14 And I don't know about you, Patty,
01:17 but there's just almost everything
01:21 Joe Shane and Brian Daybolt did a year ago turned out right.
01:25 And the things that didn't turn out right
01:28 kind of got buried
01:31 because the Giants had an unexpectedly successful season.
01:35 For whatever reason,
01:39 almost every decision that they've made this year,
01:43 even the ones that I thought were right,
01:44 like giving Daniel Jones a contract,
01:47 even the ones that I thought were right
01:50 have all gone horribly wrong.
