00:27 Normally, we're on the pavement when we're trying to
00:29 figure out what vehicle is worth its salt.
00:32 This time, something completely different.
00:34 As you can see behind me, we're not
00:36 anywhere near pavement.
00:38 This time, we're testing SUVs in a hardcore, extreme
00:42 situation to find out who's the king.
00:44 Maybe it's going to be a duel to the death, but in fact,
00:46 we're going to take these vehicles to Death Valley.
00:49 My name is Mark Williams.
00:50 I'm the editor of Truck Trend magazine.
00:52 And what we have here is a combination of Motor Trend and
00:55 Truck Trend staffers.
00:57 And we're out here to put these five
00:59 vehicles to the test.
01:01 The five vehicles that we have, the Hummer H3, the Alpha
01:04 with the 5.3 liter V8.
01:07 We've got the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with an extremely low
01:10 transfer case, a four to one ratio that gives it incredible
01:13 traction power.
01:15 We also have the Land Rover LR2.
01:17 Obviously, Land Rover has an incredible history behind it
01:20 with all sorts of international expeditions.
01:23 But the LR2 is probably the least hardcore of the
01:26 vehicles, but it's still a vehicle that should match up
01:29 pretty well against some of these other SUVs.
01:32 After the Land Rover LR2, we've got the Nissan Xterra.
01:36 It has the off-road package, which also does very well.
01:39 It has big tires.
01:40 It has very good torque.
01:41 It should also do very well in this competition.
01:44 And finally, we have the Toyota FJ Cruiser, which has a
01:47 special combination of mechanical and software
01:51 technology in order to give it the most traction possible.
01:54 Come along with us as we explore and travel into Death
01:58 Valley and find out which one of these SUVs is going to be
02:01 the winner.
