00:00 Look at the tail of the tape here,
00:01 Paulie Balanagi for Estella and Thompson.
00:04 - 23 years old, Estella, the young prospect.
00:09 Thompson, 30 years old, but you know what?
00:11 Both undefeated and that's what counts.
00:13 Both guys have a hungry demeanor.
00:15 These guys weighed about the same,
00:16 just under the 154 pound limit,
00:18 and the reach, Estella with a half inch advantage.
00:21 Let's see how this plays out.
00:22 Two hungry, young, undefeated guys.
00:24 - So they both get to be undefeated, 11 and 0, 9 and 0,
00:28 but it's been against minimal competition.
00:31 This is the first time they've fought somebody
00:33 who's around their same level, especially record-wise.
00:36 So we've seen Estella here at Caribe Royale a few times.
00:40 He's from Orlando, rings the crowd,
00:43 as you can hear everybody cheering him on.
00:45 Thompson's been in the Midwest circuit around there,
00:49 representing the Chief, of course.
00:51 And you look at his opposition, not much resistance,
00:55 not much video you can find of him.
00:57 So it'll be interesting to see if he's as good
00:59 as his record indicates.
01:01 For Estella, we know that he's good,
01:03 it's just time for that young man to step it up.
01:05 - Yeah, yeah, Estella, obviously the more touted prospect,
01:08 but in this fight, it's two guys who have
01:12 this undefeated record, and Thompson had told us,
01:14 he's impressed with Estella's 0 on his record,
01:17 but at the same time, he's been in camp
01:18 with guys like Amir Khan and Terrence Crawford,
01:21 and he's been a sparring partner for those kind of guys.
01:23 So he said guys like Estella, prospects like Estella,
01:25 not gonna really affect his mentality, he's coming to win.
01:29 Two guys with a confident demeanor coming into the fight.
01:32 And when you have an 0 on your record,
01:33 that's usually how it works.
01:35 - And you look at Estella's trunks, I mean,
01:37 right away you're thinking Camacho, right?
01:39 - Oh yeah, that Puerto Rican influence
01:43 is always gonna be there.
01:44 - Yeah, that flair.
01:45 - Especially with the American Puerto Ricans,
01:47 you know, Camacho was Puerto Rican,
01:49 where a lot of times based in the US and New York,
01:52 Estella, Puerto Rican based in Orlando.
01:54 - Didn't you wear trunks like that a couple times?
01:55 - Yeah, well Camacho was one of my favorite fighters too.
01:57 (laughing)
01:58 - Come on, I gotta say.
01:59 - You don't have to be Puerto Rican
02:00 to love Camacho, man, come on.
02:01 - I gotta set up my man, Polly Malignaggi,
02:03 anytime I can get the Camacho reference in for him.
02:05 And you see, Thompson just keep going straight chiefs red.
02:12 - Good jab there by Estella, nice and switched it up.
02:15 Doesn't land the hook, but it shows he's thinking.
02:17 Good feints in there as well.
02:19 I mean, when I fought Broner,
02:21 I wore the replica of Camacho's outfit
02:24 when he knocked out Ray Leonard.
02:26 - You did? - Yeah.
02:26 I wore the same exact outfit.
02:27 - You absolutely did.
02:29 Yeah, there was no buildup to that fight.
02:32 - Yeah, maybe a little bit.
02:33 (laughing)
02:35 - Former world champion, Polly Malignaggi,
02:36 my partner tonight, also a fighter at Trey House.
02:39 - Estella using a solid jab right now,
02:40 controlling that range on Thompson.
02:43 Thompson trying to get working.
02:44 - 154 pounders, also 6'1".
02:54 - Estella, 23 years old, in the Orlando area.
02:57 We want to see from Estella,
03:01 step up in the competition, young man.
03:04 - And nobody's really landing anything solid yet,
03:06 but you see Estella's controlling the ring.
03:08 I like to see that control of the ring,
03:09 and using that left hand to do it.
03:11 Thompson now trying to take control of it,
03:13 trying to press him as Estella,
03:15 trying to get off those shots.
03:17 And Thompson already trying to steal it off at the end
03:18 with a big right hand there by Estella.
03:20 (crowd cheering)
03:23 (bell ringing)
03:26 (upbeat music)
03:29 (bell ringing)
03:32 (birds chirping)
03:35 - Meet three students,
03:43 all learning to save and spend their money with Chase.
03:46 Freedom for kids.
03:47 Thank you, chef.
03:48 Control for parents.
03:51 Nice.
03:52 One bank for both.
03:54 Chase, make more of what's yours.
03:56 - Has this happened to you?
03:59 - You get roped in with phone offers
04:01 that bind you to a three year device contract.
04:03 Break free with T-Mobile,
04:05 introducing Go 5G Plus,
04:07 the first plan that always gives new and existing customers
04:09 the same great device deals.
04:11 - And you're upgrade ready in two years versus three.
04:13 - Right now, bring T-Mobile your phone
04:15 and get the amazing iPhone 14 on us.
04:18 Trapped.
04:20 Free.
04:22 - Get the amazing iPhone 14 on us.
04:24 - Trapped.
04:25 Free.
04:26 (upbeat music)
04:27 (crowd cheering)
04:30 - Yelling darling Giovanni.
04:32 Estella Giovanni's mom.
04:34 She's got the cheering section going on.
04:37 So Giovanni's the name,
04:40 but she's yelling Giovanni.
04:41 So I'm gonna go Giovanni now,
04:41 'cause I don't wanna upset mama.
04:43 - Maybe she'll make some mofongo for us too.
04:46 - You see Thompson tried to steal that round
04:48 at the end of the round,
04:49 but he more so confirmed it for Estella
04:50 when Estella was able to land that big old hand right.
04:55 The aggressiveness from Estella is different from,
04:58 oh, as he gets hit with the left hook by Thompson.
05:01 That might slow him down.
05:01 - Yeah, sometimes you don't wanna
05:02 fight off too much more than you can chew.
05:04 Estella's been doing a good job of controlling this fight
05:05 with that educated left hand.
05:07 You don't wanna fight off too much more than you can chew.
05:09 You wanna take it as it comes to you,
05:10 and as you create it.
05:12 Don't try to force it.
05:13 There he tried to stay in the pocket
05:14 just a little longer,
05:15 and Thompson was able to land a nice left hook.
05:18 - And we've done the last couple of fights for Estella,
05:20 and he's pedestrian with his output,
05:23 and very calculated with his approach.
05:26 And so sometimes you're like,
05:27 "Okay, come on, let's just kick him and step out the gas."
05:29 And he has a different demeanor tonight,
05:31 like very aggressive.
05:32 - Sometimes, you know what it is too,
05:33 is sometimes it's a matter of,
05:34 you fight better when there's better opposition
05:36 in front of you.
05:37 He's got a guy, Thompson, who's in front of him,
05:39 and he's trying to win the fight.
05:40 You see Thompson is trying to hold his ground here
05:42 in the ring and trying to position himself
05:44 to put Estella in a bad position.
05:45 There's a feint there by Thompson,
05:46 he's trying to force Estella into a corner,
05:48 but you know, and you see Estella's not,
05:50 you know, not being pedestrian at all.
05:51 Really focused every second of the fight,
05:53 and has used a very educated left hand,
05:56 both as a jab and also when he's turned into a hook.
05:58 And even when it's not landed,
05:59 it has controlled the distance from,
06:02 and it has prevented Thompson from really creating a lot.
06:05 - That's a good point, Paulie.
06:06 When you fight somebody who is more of your style,
06:08 more willing to engage with you,
06:09 you're gonna look different,
06:10 because the last opponent for Estella
06:12 was a veteran, Saul Corral,
06:14 who had over 40 fights under his belt,
06:17 who will go around, will hug, and make it ugly for you.
06:20 Where Thompson tonight, he's right there with you.
06:23 - That's right hand there on the side,
06:25 and Estella circles again.
06:26 Thompson will be good, well off to cut off the ring
06:28 on Estella to try to maybe suffocate the space a little bit.
06:31 You see Thompson's putting pressure,
06:32 but Estella's able to circle around
06:35 after landing those shots.
06:36 And Estella's just a hair quicker,
06:38 and he's able to really pull the trigger
06:41 and leave Thompson there after landing the shot.
06:44 So Thompson will be well off to cut off the ring
06:48 a little bit, but Estella's been able to circle,
06:50 which has kept him comfortable
06:52 and controlling with that left hand,
06:53 and some well-placed right hands.
06:54 - Watch behind the head.
06:56 - There it is again with the left hand.
06:59 And you see, sometimes it lands like right there,
07:01 and sometimes it doesn't, but what it's doing,
07:02 even when it lands or doesn't land,
07:03 the fact that it's consistent, it's out there,
07:05 it's change of rhythm, it has made Thompson,
07:08 has forced Thompson to respect Estella's output
07:10 and respect Estella's boxing,
07:12 and he's sort of got his hands tied.
07:14 He's not able to really get off the way he wants to.
07:16 - Foot for Estella.
07:20 - And again, it doesn't have to be the best hook,
07:22 but again, Thompson sees it's coming from the side now.
07:24 So now he sees the left hand coming from the middle,
07:26 sharp jabs coming from the side as a hook.
07:28 All of a sudden, it takes away your ability to anticipate.
07:30 And when it takes away your ability to anticipate,
07:32 you have to think just a little more.
07:34 And when Thompson's thinking just a little more,
07:35 he's not getting off.
07:37 - Solid round for Giovanni Estella,
07:40 our co-feature tonight.
07:41 Box Lab Promotions here in Orlando, Florida.
07:45 Kareem Doyal.
07:48 [crowd cheering]
07:51 - In the corner of the Puerto Rican, Estella.
08:00 - He must be happy with what's happening so far
08:11 in the corner of Estella.
08:13 In the corner of Thompson, you know,
08:14 he's getting himself in position,
08:17 but then he's allowing Estella to get off first.
08:19 So the adjustment has to come from Thompson.
08:22 He's got to start getting off first.
08:23 Maybe he saw the jab with the jabber
08:25 more so than anything else.
08:26 - Some highlight from that second round for Estella.
08:29 He came out really aggressive, Paulie.
08:31 - Yeah, and then he sees a change in that right hand.
08:33 He did block to the body,
08:34 so he changes it over with a slight hooking right hand
08:36 to the head, and you see he's able to circle around
08:38 and Thompson not cutting off the ring.
08:39 If mom likes those right hands, that's for sure.
08:41 - I think his mom's tired of watching eight rounds
08:44 for son go the distance, right?
08:45 'Cause the mom just wants the fight to be over
08:47 as soon as possible.
08:47 - Well, you know what?
08:48 As long as you get the W, everybody goes home happy.
08:52 - The anguish that parents go through
08:53 watching their kids fight.
08:54 And there you see, we're gonna have the Nadine cam.
08:58 Saludos, Nadine.
08:59 Oh, that's a good hook from the son.
09:01 - Yeah, and again, Thompson not getting off
09:05 at that distance.
09:05 He's got to start jabbing.
09:06 You know, they say you can jab with a jab
09:07 and a hook with a hooker.
09:08 Thompson's gonna have to start
09:10 being consistent with that jab.
09:11 He's making the same mistake
09:13 Moreno was making last fight.
09:14 He's trying to get in range and then punch.
09:15 And that's not gonna work against a guy
09:17 with a good jab with an educated left hand, like Estella.
09:19 You gotta use the punches to get you into range.
09:23 You can't try to constantly find your way
09:25 into range and then punch.
09:26 That might work against mediocre fighters,
09:27 but that's not gonna work against
09:28 the better level of fighters.
09:30 And Estella's one of those better level prospects.
09:32 - And as you continue to climb
09:34 in this 12-4 fight, Giovanni Estella.
09:36 You know, Thompson's able to get that left hook in there.
09:40 - Yeah, yeah.
09:41 - But he doesn't follow it up with anything.
09:42 He got it in there, it was blocked by Estella,
09:44 but again, he lost the position after that.
09:45 You know, again, you want to jab right here.
09:47 He uses it there, but you want to make sure
09:49 you want to try to start out jabbing
09:51 and take away the front hand of Estella.
09:53 'Cause Estella, if he's able to keep control
09:55 of the range and the boxing with the lead hand,
09:57 you're never gonna make him uncomfortable.
09:59 - Claudia Trago's doing a great job
10:01 roaming around the ring.
10:02 What'd you hear, Claudia?
10:03 - Thank you, Beto.
10:04 Johnny Estella, Giovanni's dad,
10:07 says he needs to work constantly
10:09 and stay behind that jab.
10:10 Make sure that he's constantly moving,
10:13 but be very cautious because they still don't know
10:15 what kind of power Chris Thompson has.
10:17 - Thompson has six KO's against limited competition.
10:21 I don't know, but yeah, the power,
10:25 those KO's that I did see a couple videos of Thompson,
10:28 probably it was like, okay, those guys were going down.
10:31 It wasn't gonna take much to knock him down.
10:32 No, not knock out Thompson,
10:33 we're still trying to figure out
10:35 who this young man from Kansas City is.
10:37 - You know what, regardless, he's undefeated
10:39 and he's confident in his record
10:40 because he's still trying here.
10:41 His body language is telling you
10:43 that he still believes he can win
10:45 and he's trying to put Estella into positions.
10:47 He's not been able to yet
10:48 because of Estella's educated left hand,
10:51 first and foremost.
10:52 I think that's the main reason Estella's ahead in this fight.
10:54 But it's not made Thompson lose confidence
10:57 in the fact that he can fight his way back into the fight.
10:59 Now he's just gotta figure out a way
11:00 to dominate that lead hand
11:03 'cause I think that's been the difference in this fight.
11:04 Thompson has to figure out a way.
11:06 'Cause once he gets close, he gets off here.
11:08 He doesn't lay a lot of shots there, but he's getting off.
11:10 And now he wants to get off, he wants to get off more.
11:12 But at that mid-range, he's gonna have to close that gap
11:14 and you're not gonna do that
11:15 without winning that left hand battle,
11:18 the battle of the left hand.
11:19 - And that was a low blow.
11:21 Thompson immediately reacted.
11:24 - Had to be careful, though.
11:26 - Yeah. - You didn't see that.
11:27 He walked away, you gotta be careful.
11:28 That was low, but--
11:29 - It was low in front of us, we're gonna get that replay.
11:31 Great job by our replay department to get this for you.
11:34 - Yeah, that's right on the leg.
11:36 Those, like, those kill moves,
11:38 these movements and tendons there, bro,
11:40 those hurt your ability to lift your leg up
11:42 and move around, you know.
11:43 You know, Puerto Rican fighters from the island
11:46 like to do that.
11:47 Miguel Cotto would love to do that.
11:49 - They like to, they might be in San Juan,
11:50 but they're gonna hit you in Ponce.
11:52 - Yeah, right on the leg like that,
11:53 'cause he kills your leg,
11:55 'cause he kinda numbs your legs up.
11:58 - Final seconds of the round.
11:58 Next round, we're gonna hear from Fyodor Trejo
12:00 to the corner of Thompson.
12:02 [bell dings]
12:02 [crowd cheering]
12:05 [upbeat music]
12:08 Crunch time Thompson, Matt Mays with him.
12:24 They love their Kansas City Chiefs,
12:27 as you see the Chet Kelcegers,
12:28 he came out with the Mahomes.
12:30 - It's a good time to like the Chiefs.
12:31 - Oh, absolutely.
12:32 - It's a good time.
12:33 - I took it in history.
12:34 - Too bad they didn't bring in that KC barbecue.
12:36 Let's look at the replays for that previous round.
12:37 Another good one for Estella.
12:40 - Yep, and you see how Thompson trying to get off
12:42 those shots on the inside there.
12:43 He's willing and able on the inside.
12:44 Wasn't able to land much in there,
12:46 but you see as soon as he's able to get in range,
12:48 I always look at the fight right away.
12:49 So that's that demeanor he has.
12:51 He wants to fight.
12:52 He wants to try to win this fight.
12:53 He's not, he hasn't lost,
12:55 but that enthusiasm right there on the inside,
12:57 even though he didn't land anything clean,
12:58 it shows his willingness to try to win this fight.
13:01 It's just, he's gonna have to do it with skill
13:03 and not just will,
13:04 because right now Estella's skill is preventing him
13:07 from finding the range he wants.
13:09 - You can hear that corner of Thompson telling him,
13:18 "Keep working."
13:19 And Claudia Tragos has more from the corner
13:21 of Crunch Time Thompson.
13:23 - Matt Mays is very clear.
13:25 He wants him to throw his hands just a bit more,
13:27 be a little bit busy.
13:29 But first and foremost,
13:30 he has to keep adding his stools slowly,
13:33 but surely to bring in like the surprise factor
13:36 to the fight.
13:37 - The surprise factor.
13:38 That's what we gotta get so far.
13:40 We haven't seen that from Thompson.
13:42 - One of the surprises could just be consistent jab,
13:44 which he's using a little bit more, the frown,
13:46 and now he's gonna cut off the ring.
13:47 Already the consistent jab has backed off Estella
13:49 a little bit more, but he's not cutting off the ring.
13:51 So Estella's been able to find the exit.
13:52 And when Estella finds the exit,
13:53 he finds, he's able to find his angles
13:56 like he did right there.
13:57 - Blood now from the nose of Chris Thompson
14:00 in the red trunks.
14:03 - Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna get me wrong.
14:04 It could also be the Thompson,
14:05 no, nice combination there.
14:06 It's Estella tied down the ropes.
14:09 It could also be that Thompson doesn't know how to cut off.
14:11 Not a skill that you learn that easily.
14:14 - Well, he hasn't had to so far.
14:15 He gets headstabbed back a good hand by Estella.
14:18 - Well, he's had to. He just hasn't done it.
14:20 I mean, Estella--
14:21 - In his previous fights.
14:22 In his previous fights, he didn't have to
14:23 'cause he was taking care of business.
14:25 - Those guys weren't able to get away too fast.
14:28 - A little yap in there.
14:32 - Estella was warned, keep it up again.
14:34 - Yeah, we're in Orlando,
14:36 but he's landing some shots that are in Miami.
14:38 (laughs)
14:40 - Maybe a little Coral Gables action too.
14:43 All right, Claudia, I know you like that reference.
14:45 - I love it.
14:47 - Upping the pressure a little bit more
14:51 as Thompson this round.
14:52 - Yeah, and that's what he needs to do, right, Paulie?
14:55 - Yeah, absolutely.
14:56 - You're on the road, you're the underdog on this fight.
14:58 - And he's able to stay where he is.
14:59 Estella stays still just enough
15:01 to get off his combinations now,
15:02 which is what Thompson's been trying to do the whole fight,
15:06 but he hasn't been able to get in range
15:07 thanks to Estella's left hand and his movement.
15:10 This round, he's been able to trap Estella a couple of times
15:12 and then able to get off a couple of combinations.
15:29 Estella looking for a shot.
15:32 - Oh, and there it is, landed the big right hand.
15:36 Giovanni Estella knocks down Punch-Time,
15:39 who's wobbly, holding on to the ropes.
15:42 - His leg went stiff when he went down.
15:44 - Round is winding down, referee having a move.
15:51 10 seconds to go in the round.
15:53 Estella knocks him down again.
15:56 - One, two, three, four.
16:01 - Estella thinks it's over, it's not.
16:02 The referee's still counting.
16:05 Johnson is gonna survive the round.
16:07 - Thompson may be able to get out of the round.
16:09 - All right, let's go.
16:10 - Five, four, three, two, one.
16:11 - Two knockdowns, big round for him.
16:13 - Ooh, he's--
16:14 - And Thompson's walking back to the neutral corner.
16:15 - He's in the wrong corner, Thompson.
16:19 The commissioner had to go and get him
16:21 as Thompson goes down for the first time in his career,
16:23 and he went down hard.
16:24 - It's one of those things that Estella
16:26 had been landing consistently on the inside,
16:28 finally paid off there.
16:29 If we get that replay, we may be able to see it there.
16:31 Those chopping right hands,
