00:00 When the universe first exploded into existence, it had to start somewhere, and now experts
00:07 say they've found an interesting discovery in that very area.
00:10 The region is often referred to as the Cosmic Dawn, and researchers say they've identified
00:15 a black hole in galaxy UH-Z1.
00:18 That host galaxy was formed only 470 million years after the Big Bang, meaning not only
00:24 is the black hole the oldest experts have ever discovered, it's at a stage in its development
00:28 that scientists have never seen, and it's absolutely huge.
00:32 Astronomers say it's so large, it now has around the same mass as the galaxy in which
00:36 it resides.
00:37 And it's so far away, researchers needed two powerful telescopes and gravitational
00:41 lensing to see it.
00:42 Or when the gravity from a large cosmic body like a galactic cluster bends and elongates
00:47 light, making the images beyond it appear larger.
00:50 The light from the galaxy took 13.2 billion years to reach Earth, but now that it has,
00:54 it's adding more data to the meager quiver with regards to black holes.
00:58 So how big is it?
00:59 Experts don't have that nailed down exactly, but it's between 10 million and 100 million
01:04 times the mass of our sun, too big to have formed from a star collapse, with the researchers
01:08 saying quote "We think that this is the first detection of an outsized black hole,
01:13 and the best evidence yet obtained that some black holes form from massive clouds of gas."
