00:00 There's a little more blood in the honey this time around.
00:03 Here's how the Pooh Bear and the upcoming sequel to Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey
00:07 got an upgrade.
00:09 Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey remains one of the most surprising horror hits of 2023.
00:14 Made for mere thousands of dollars, director Reese Frake-Waterfield's slasher take on
00:18 the beloved children's icon caught on like wildfire, finding mainstream success that
00:23 nobody involved could have expected.
00:25 Now we're getting a sequel that will have much more blood and a much larger budget.
00:29 As evidence of just how much bigger the sequel will be, a first look photo of Pooh Bear in
00:34 the sequel has been revealed.
00:36 It's noticeably more impressive than what came before.
00:39 The image was first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, and it shows a far more detailed
00:43 mask for Pooh, dripping in blood.
00:46 The original film featured a more basic mask, and the reason for that mostly had to do with
00:50 budget constraints.
00:51 Speaking with THR, Frake-Waterfield explained just how much the filmmakers have upped their
00:55 game for Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey 2.
00:58 The whole monster in the first movie was about 630 euro or $770.
01:03 But this time we have people doing the prosthetics.
01:06 It's a company that has worked on Harry Potter's Voldemort and Star Wars, and that's why Pooh
01:10 looks a bit more scary.
01:12 There's an extra level of detail there.
01:14 The director added that the creature prosthetics alone for the sequel cost more than $20,000.
01:19 The first film had a total budget of less than $100,000, and was expected to go straight
01:24 to VOD.
01:25 Instead, images from the film went viral online, prompting a full-on theatrical release that
01:31 netted nearly $6 million at the box office.
01:34 So everyone who kind of grew up on Winnie the Pooh when they were younger, and fast
01:38 forward 20 years, now you've got this version.
01:40 Jagged Edge Productions, which is run by Frake-Waterfield and producer Scott Jeffery, wasn't accustomed
01:45 to having their films play in theaters.
01:48 This time around, however, they're very much ready for the big screen.
01:52 Filming on the sequel has already wrapped, and it's currently in post-production.
01:56 Having more money to spend this time around also means audiences will be treated to a
01:59 much bloodier cinematic outing with Pooh and his pals.
02:04 Frake-Waterfield told Variety of the sequel's budget, "It's magnitudes higher compared to
02:07 what it was in the first film.
02:09 It's over 10 times what it was."
02:11 The precise figure hasn't been revealed, but it's expected to be in the $1 million range.
02:16 That is still very much a low-budget affair by Hollywood standards, but Frake-Waterfield
02:21 is making the most of it.
02:22 He also discussed the scope of the violence in the sequel, saying, "In comparison to the
02:26 first film, everything stepped up massively.
02:29 I think the last time I did a count, there was over 30 deaths in the movie, which is
02:33 quite substantial compared to most movies.
02:35 I think that's at least over three times what the first film had, and there's various massacres
02:39 and stuff."
02:41 Jeffery revealed to THR that there were actually too many deaths in the sequel.
02:45 In short, expect Pooh and the gang to rack up a much bigger body count on their second
02:49 go-round.
02:51 Also of note, Tigger will be in on the action this time around, as the character will be
02:54 entering the public domain before the release.
02:58 Horror fans have a lot more to look forward to than just one sequel, though.
03:01 The plan for Jagged Edge Productions is not only to keep building the Winnie the Pooh
03:04 franchise, but also to look at more public domain childhood favorites that can be turned
03:09 into horror films.
03:10 The company already has Bambi the Reckoning and Peter Pan Neverland Nightmare on the way.
03:16 As one might expect, the plan is for these films to form a universe not unlike the Marvel
03:20 Cinematic Universe, with The End Goal being a big crossover film down the line.
03:25 Jeffery explained to THR that Blood & Honey 2 is going to start setting up this universe
03:30 by including some Easter eggs.
03:31 "I want them to interact with one another.
03:34 There's going to be Easter eggs in Winnie the Pooh 2 about two films that have not been
03:37 announced yet, just a little tiny wink.
03:40 And then later down the line, I guess when we run out of ideas, is where they'll start
03:44 meeting one another."
03:45 Jeffery also revealed how messed up some of this is going to be, saying, "With Peter
03:49 Pan, we've got a Tinkerbell addicted to pixie dust like it's heroin."
03:53 Frank Waterfield also discussed the broader plans, explaining that they know now that
03:57 they have to keep the quality of these films up.
03:59 They can't just pump out ultra-low-budget films and hope they will catch on.
04:04 Things have changed now.
04:05 The director said, "Last summer, someone made a Peter Pan horror film after we announced
04:09 ours, and they were trying to make it look like it was us who had made it.
04:12 But they just rushed it out, and that's not the game we're in anymore."
04:16 Winnie the Pooh Blood & Honey 2 is due to arrive on February 14, 2024.
