00:02 - To shoot these stunts for Mission Impossible,
00:04 with Tom, there are no limits.
00:06 So we become a little bit more adventurous every time.
00:08 - Tom's doing a sport very few people on this planet do.
00:13 It's called speed flying.
00:14 - It's a very beautiful and delicate sport.
00:17 - But it also is one of the most dangerous sports
00:20 in the world.
00:21 While it may look similar, speed flying is not skydiving.
00:25 Skydiving is fairly predictable.
00:28 Speed flying is incredibly unpredictable.
00:30 - It's a very small canopy racing down a mountain
00:35 just feet off the ground.
00:36 - Any sort of crosswind could put Tom in peril.
00:39 - We're gonna do spirals.
00:42 And we're landing in an incredibly high speed,
00:46 over 80 kilometers an hour.
00:48 We've been training for a few years now.
00:54 (dramatic music)
00:58 And we're always looking for what's the most dynamic way
01:00 to shoot this.
01:01 - Coming up with the stunt is only one
01:07 of the technical challenges.
01:09 The other is putting a camera in a place
01:10 that you can see where Tom is operating the speedway.
01:13 - You can't get close to this with a helicopter or a drone.
01:18 - So we had to develop a gimbal system
01:19 flying along with Tom.
01:21 You had cameras hanging off of both sides
01:23 being operated in a helicopter.
01:25 What's going to work is here's you, here's me.
01:28 This is what we need.
01:29 That's one of the things of doing practical action.
01:37 We are at the mercy of weather.
01:39 It's too dangerous.
01:43 - The wind's dropping down.
01:45 It's only gonna get better.
01:47 - Let's go, let's go, let's go.
01:48 I'm ready.

02:03 - Tom is airborne, Tom is airborne.

02:19 - Flying very close to rocks looks quite beautiful.
02:22 Behind the scenes, we were all in absolute terror.
02:25 Landing, Tom had to be flying towards the camera vehicle.
02:29 That meant that Tom had to be at the exact mark
02:32 or it can end in disaster.
02:34 It is truly a one of a kind adventure.
