00:00 As Israel continues its fourth week of intense bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip, huge
00:11 crowds of protesters have gathered to call for a ceasefire in Washington DC as well as
00:15 in other capital cities around the globe.
00:18 The protests in New York, Nashville, Cincinnati, Las Vegas and even Orono, Maine demanded a
00:25 ceasefire and called for an end to the siege in Gaza.
00:28 The demonstrations came a week after vast protests in Asian and European capitals and
00:33 a day after the Israeli government appeared to reject the United States' call for humanitarian
00:38 pauses in the bombardment.
00:39 The protests were filled with messages like "moan the dead", "fight like hell for the
00:43 living" and "let Gaza live".
00:45 They also saw a shutdown of American aid to Israel, blending policy demands with anguish
00:51 and ambition.
00:54 The protests drew Americans from cities across the country who traveled to the nation's
00:58 capital on hundreds of buses organized by local community groups and progressive organizations.
01:03 In a statement, the International People's Assembly, which also helped organize the protests,
01:07 said the march is said to be the largest in favor of Palestine in U.S. history.
01:12 Multiple organizers directly addressed President Joe Biden, leading chants of "Biden, Biden,
01:17 you can't hide, we charge you with genocide" and "No ceasefire, no votes".
01:23 In addition to Washington DC, pro-Palestinian protesters also marched in other major cities
01:27 across the world on Saturday to demand a ceasefire.
01:30 Thousands of people gathered at London's Trafalgar Square for the country's third consecutive
01:34 weekend rally, carrying Palestinian flags and banners bearing the phrases "Ceasefire
01:39 Now" and "Stop Bombing Children".
01:41 The Met Police estimated a turnout of 100,000 for the first solidarity march.
01:45 Roughly 1,400 Israelis were killed in the attack by harmers and more than 9,000 Gazans
01:49 have been killed in Israel's bombing campaign.
