00:00 It was a tough game as well because Burley were good. We thought they would be to be
00:07 fair. We'd been watching them in our preparation so we weren't surprised by the way they played
00:13 and the quality of their play. I thought that they also defended extremely well so they
00:19 prevented us taking as much benefit from our winning of the ball back as I would have liked
00:27 to have seen us do. But the good thing is that even during that period we kept our shape,
00:32 we kept working hard. We had a few little problems with players either injured or feeling
00:38 the need to come off so it forced more changes than perhaps we were anticipating at the start
00:44 of the game. There aren't going to be that many teams who come here and get away with
00:49 three points, I can tell you that now, not if Burley keep playing the way they're playing.
00:53 So we've got to be delighted that our discipline, our determination, our efforts really got
01:01 us the three points. We'll go back to London happy and I'm sure that Burley will feel very
01:07 aggrieved that they didn't get more from their performance today. But if they keep playing
01:12 like that then they will.
01:13 Do you think the Premier League experience is the difference between the two real chances
01:17 you got when you came to play?
01:20 I wouldn't say that really. I think that they defended some of our attacking play well which
01:27 could have led to chances but we didn't get that far. And they got a little bit further
01:33 I thought getting the ball in our box and asking questions. But the good thing for me
01:39 was that the midfield and the back players they helped out a lot and it led to a lot
01:45 of corner kicks but it didn't lead to that many chances where I was convinced they were
01:50 going to score a goal.
01:51 Two goals, one for Jeff Schlupp and one for Tyreek Mitchell. Players don't always get
01:56 involved with the goal scoring headlines so you must be pleased with them today?
01:59 Well Tyreek certainly doesn't but Schlupp is a goal scorer to be fair, always was. When
02:04 he was playing regularly we always thought that Jeff had goals in him and it was a really
02:09 good goal. It was a good goal through Jordan's robbing of the defender as they were playing
02:15 out from the back and then the cross was very good and Schlupp made a very long run. So
02:19 we're really pleased about that goal.
02:21 And we're delighted with the three points and as I say commiserations because I guess
02:25 there's more Burnley journalists in this room than there are London ones. I think that you
02:33 should be being very kind to the team and praising their performance today because I
02:39 thought they did really well and I've got to be really happy that my team can show the
02:45 necessary character, the necessary resilience, the necessary determination and as you rightly
02:51 said the necessary experience to get us over the line and enable us to take three points
02:57 with us back home.
02:58 And just finally can I ask about Jeslin Sturridge?
03:00 No it's bad. It's bad yeah. We don't know 100% but we're not talking a week or two.
03:08 We're probably talking longer now which is a real blow because just as you get Eze and
03:13 Alissa back almost in the fold you lose another player that we think is very important for
03:18 us in our attacking play. So we regain two and lose one. I'd have preferred to have all
03:25 three.
03:26 Hi Ron.
03:27 Hi.
03:28 What is it about being on the road? You've won three away games this season, one down
03:29 the road at Man United a few weeks ago and you're showing real resilience on the road.
03:38 What?
03:39 Well I'd like to think we show resilience at home as well. I mean we played against
03:44 Tottenham on Friday night. I thought our resilience and our defending there was excellent. In
03:48 fact they won the game 2-1 and they only had one shot on target in the game. So in actual
03:54 fact we weren't exactly conceding goal chance after goal chance and Tottenham at the moment
03:59 are in a fantastic vein of form. So I don't think there is a vast difference between home
04:05 and away. But I think sometimes you notice it more away from home because you're playing
04:11 in front of a home crowd, you're playing against a team sometimes with its tail up, boosted
04:17 by the fans, pushed forward. And I've got to say I would give a lot of credit to Burnley
04:23 in that respect today. I thought they never gave up, they worked very hard, they fought
04:28 for every ball. But fortunately for me so did Crystal Palace.
04:32 A couple of your lads got booked at half time, you were sort of remonstrating with the referee
04:38 maybe about a late decision. Were you kind of anxious about that? Because obviously one
04:42 of them was one of your top defenders and it kind of left him on a yellow card.
04:45 I was angry about it, I didn't know about it until about half. In fact I got the information
04:51 just as the team was about to go out for the second half. It made me angry.
04:54 With them or with the referee?
04:55 No with them. Because the fact is we know that the referee is likely or certainly entitled
05:03 in some situations if he wants to, to give yellow cards. We can't say we didn't know
05:08 or we had no idea. We can't afford I don't think with the depth of our squad to run the
05:15 risk of losing players by the accumulation of yellow cards just because they want to
05:20 make their point to the referee. You don't win by making your point to the referee. We
05:24 all do it to be fair. No one is an angel in that respect. But you need to find the moment
05:33 perhaps if you're making a point and you start to realise that this is going the wrong way,
05:38 you need to back off. Because if you keep going and get the yellow card, those two players,
05:43 if they get a suspension in the weeks to come, no one is going to be more unhappy than them.
05:49 And then they will of course look back and think why on earth did I do it? But as I say,
05:56 we don't want that to happen. We don't want that sort of yellow cards being flourished
06:04 or given to our players. We've got to learn to do better than that and hopefully this
06:12 will be a lesson and those players, both of whom are amongst our best players and our
06:17 most experienced players, they certainly are intelligent enough to take it on board.
