I Drive My DeLorean With A Remote Control | RIDICULOUS RIDES
A COMPUTER technician has added to his crazy collection of rides by building a full size remote-controlled DeLorean from Back To The Future. The incredible replica from the hit sci-fi franchise, boasts robotic servos that are controlled by a tiny remote. Dutch creator, Bjorn Harms, has an impressive past in this field and was inspired when he watched the films as a youngster. Taking six months of Bjorn’s time, he admits the building process was far from easy – but he is very proud of what he has managed to achieve.

00:10 had to try.
00:13 The movie was definitely a big inspiration for me to start this project.
00:24 A lot of people tell me I'm crazy to build these kind of things.
00:31 Building this car wasn't easy. My name is Bjorn Harms. My latest project, the only
00:41 one in the world, the remote control DeLorean from Back to the Future.
00:53 The entire process took me around six months to build it and another three
00:59 months to make it more safe and reliable.
01:19 I even built the Futaba controller from DAQ just like in the movie and it even
01:25 works exactly like in the movie. This is the remote control and it also has of
01:31 course a lot of functions. This is the on and off switch. The moment I hit the
01:35 switch to off the entire failsafe system will go on. So that means that the brake
01:41 will start braking and the throttle will come loose and the car will stop. I can
01:47 also activate the lights. I can shift the gear lever to reverse, drive and back to
01:56 park. Of course I can also steer and of course throttle, ignition and starting.
02:14 One of the hardest things to build was definitely the steering because the
02:19 steering axle in the DeLorean isn't power steering so that was a big issue.
02:24 So I removed the original steering axle from the DeLorean and I replaced it with
02:31 a power steering from an Opel Corsa and hooked that up to my RC system. It's
02:37 always a little bit scary the first time where you try it on the road. The DeLorean
02:42 is still road legal with the remote control system. The engine size is a V6
02:48 2.8 liters and it has around 130 horsepower.
02:52 Current speed it's around maybe 150-160 kilometers an hour max. The weight of it
03:00 is around 1250 kilograms and with all the modifications on it from back to the
03:06 future is around 1500 kilograms give or take. In the past I've also built
03:13 different cars. The first Ridiculous Ride Show did so great and I'm very pleased
03:21 with it. I got a lot of comments on Facebook and YouTube, a lot of positive
03:26 and fun comments. I sold the Corvette for I believe 28,000 euros. I have to say
03:35 that I get more reactions to this car than to the remote control Corvette I've
03:40 built. The fans definitely go crazy when they see this car. You can't just take
03:45 this car out for a normal drive. I think the value of the car with this RC system
03:51 should be around give or take 75 to 80 thousand dollars. I'm definitely proud of
03:59 what I've achieved with this car. I'm always open for new projects and other
04:05 remote control cars maybe life-size so if somebody has a nice project for me so
