Film Brain is unsettled by this Argentinian Shudder horror flick, but unfortunately that became for all the wrong reasons due to an element that rather ruined it for him.

00:00 Out now on Shudder is Argentinian horror When Evil Lurks.
00:04 When two brothers try to move a possessed rotten, they inadvertently release the evil
00:09 on their entire isolated town, and have to try and outrun its rapid spread.
00:14 When Evil Lurks really got under my skin, it has a great sense of foreboding and atmosphere
00:20 punctuated by shocking sudden bursts of graphic violence, and the movie is indiscriminate
00:26 in its victims.
00:27 What makes these moments even more surprising is that you learn the mythos as it goes along,
00:32 it tells by showing, although around the midway point a character does explain all the rules
00:37 to the audience in a big exposition dump, which might explain why the second half of
00:41 the movie starts to lose its grasp on the audience.
00:44 By far the worst thing about the movie is the introduction of an autistic teen who only
00:48 serves as the ending punchline, spoken of with lines like "the demons can't understand
00:53 their minds" which is both stupid and offensive, it's seriously soured an otherwise pretty
00:58 great horror movie.
