Autumn is associated with falling leaves, pumpkins, Halloween candy, and turkeys... but it is also the time of year of the parish festivals. From September through November, there are hundreds of parish festivals in dioceses across the US and beyond.

00:00 Autumn is a beautiful time of year, and one of my favorite things about the season is
00:07 the tradition of the parish festival.
00:09 It seems like almost every parish has one at this time of year.
00:12 There are rides, games, food, rides, cotton candy, rides.
00:20 Parish festivals have lots and lots of rides.
00:23 Parking, not as much.
00:25 Now there may be some who say that this carnival-esque atmosphere doesn't really mix with our faith,
00:31 or that these parish festivals are really all about making money.
00:34 Of course, the real point of these festivals is to generate community and spread joy.
00:38 And you know who really appreciates a good parish festival?
00:42 The saints.
00:43 I mean, after all, they're in heaven celebrating 24/7, and so it's only appropriate that every
00:48 year every parish joins in the celebration with their own patron saint.
00:53 So I say, let's celebrate, rain or shine!
