00:00 In recognition of companies and individuals who have made an impact on society and the
00:05 environment through their various initiatives, 10 organisations and individuals were honoured
00:11 at the Star Golden Hearts Award SGHA.
00:15 The selection process began in June, with nominations from the public who voted for
00:20 their charitable organisations and individuals.
00:24 Through a panel of distinguished judges, 10 outstanding winners were chosen from a big
00:28 pool of 731 nominations.
00:32 This year's remarkable recipients, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, Lang Tengah
00:38 Turtle Watch, the Mariset Research Organisation, Starfish Malaysia Foundation, Pakos Trust,
00:45 the Asli Co, Klub Alami, Buku Jalanan Chowkit, Jepson Wong and Grace Market are dedicated
00:52 to tackling a diverse range of issues.
00:55 Their areas of impact encompass education for the underprivileged, wildlife conservation,
01:02 sustainable waste recycling and improving the livelihoods of indigenous communities.
01:08 The 10 winners received RM15,000 each as a token of recognition for their exemplary contributions
01:15 in making a positive impact on the lives of others and the environment.
01:21 Among the 10 winners, the highly sought-after Gamuda Inspiration Award GIA by Yayasan Gamuda
01:28 was presented to two exceptional social changemakers, namely the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre
01:35 and the Mariset Research Organisation, both received grants amounting to RM150,000 each.
01:43 The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, renowned for its dedication to protecting
01:48 and preserving Borneo's iconic sun bears, has been making significant strides in the
01:53 realm of wildlife conservation.
01:56 It's a very surprise, I didn't expect that we are going to win the Gamuda Award and of
02:03 course this gives me extra power, extra courage, extra energy for us to keep our work and as
02:12 you know wildlife conservation work is quite challenging for many many reasons and one
02:18 of them is of course from funding and then with this funding searching in into our project
02:23 we can do a lot of good work, say for example two months ago we just started a long term
02:28 field work project called Tavin Sun Bear Project which includes the rehabilitation work of
02:36 sun bears and also long term research work so this fund definitely will help and also
02:42 the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, we need a lot of funds to do our holistic
02:46 and pragmatic work possible on the ground, the work that we do incorporates improved
02:51 animal welfare, education, research, rehabilitation, eco-tourism, community conservation, anything
02:58 that it matters to help us so this recognition and this award definitely helps so I want
03:04 to thank the Star Media Group and also the Gamuda, Ayasan Gamuda, thank you so so much.
03:11 On the other hand, the Marasat Research Organisation stands as a beacon of hope for marine life
03:17 conservationists with its conservation efforts and research on marine mammals supported by
03:24 extensive education and volunteering programmes.
03:28 Now we didn't expect it, it was quite a surprise, a very pleasant surprise, I think
03:32 it, yeah we were quite very grateful and very thankful for the award.
03:36 So how would this extra 150,000 people actually help at Marasat in pursuing your project?
03:45 We don't know yet, to be honest I think the team needs to regroup.
03:47 We still need to plan.
03:49 Yeah, but it's timely because it's coming to the end of the year, we're planning for
03:53 next year's activities so.
03:54 We have many exciting programmes next year, you can follow us on our social medias.
