00:00 The ancient city of Kashgar, which has a permanent resident population of around 200,000 and
00:07 is located in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, has greeted over
00:12 7 million tourists so far this year.
00:16 Apart from domestic tourists, Kashgar is also becoming increasingly popular among foreigners.
00:23 Since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, the ancient city has once again been propelled
00:28 into the limelight as a gateway for opening up.
00:33 Neil Munro, a motorcycle traveler from Britain, walked into a restaurant with friends to savor
00:39 the famous local barbecue and beer.
00:43 This is Munro's third visit to Kashgar.
00:45 When he first traveled there, he was wowed by the unique culture and he soon began learning
00:50 Chinese.
00:51 It's been 17 years ago I think the first time I came here.
00:56 I remember it being much smaller for one thing.
00:59 The old city was really old.
01:01 You walk down the street, there's no shops, there's just old buildings, old people's houses,
01:06 no tourist sort of thing, well less than now certainly.
01:10 And now this time it seems to be huge, a really big city.
01:14 Now it's a nice place.
01:15 It's a much more comfortable place now, much more easy place than it was back when I first
01:20 came here.
01:22 The ancient city of Kashgar is one of the largest surviving earthen buildings in the
01:27 world.
01:28 In 2010, a renovation project with an investment value exceeding 7 billion yuan was launched.
01:36 Within seven years, the dilapidated houses were rebuilt but without changing their architectural
01:42 characteristics and their traditional Uyghur lifestyles.
01:46 It was beautiful, interesting to see local culture, the ancient city.
01:52 It was very nicely renewed at night with a very nice light.
02:00 It was creating a very interesting romantic climate.
02:06 We could feel here very cozy.
02:11 Hadea Mushamabula from Tanzania runs a cafe in the ancient city of Kashgar with her husband
02:17 Dilsher Tursun.
02:18 The two met while studying at a university in East China's Fujian province seven years
02:24 ago.
02:25 Bullish on China's soaring coffee consumption potential and economic prospects in Kashgar
02:31 where Dilsher Tursun was born, the couple decided to settle and start their own business
02:37 in Kashgar.
02:38 So for the next year and probably the end of this year, we will still have Tanzanian
02:46 coffee beans coming in in big amounts because we are arranging for that right now to transport
02:56 a big amount of coffee beans in our coffee shop from Tanzania.
03:00 Thank you.
03:01 Thank you.
03:02 Thank you.
03:03 Thank you.
