00:00 This is the long-forgotten kingdom of the Dadan-Olehiyon people, found in northwest
00:08 Saudi Arabia, and recently archaeologists began excavating five new sites related to
00:13 the 2,000-year-old civilizations.
00:15 Dadan was one of the largest at the time, even being mentioned in the Old Testament
00:19 of the Bible.
00:20 The kingdoms ruled the area for some 900 years, until around 100 CE.
00:25 And now the researchers say these new discoveries will give them better clues about these ancient
00:29 people's lives, economics, and religion.
00:32 The sites they're excavating include an Islamic area, a temple, a residential area,
00:37 and a cemetery, giving the team much more diversity with regards to unearthing the civilization's
00:41 customs and culture, as previous excavations have limited them to very particular areas.
00:46 Now they're hoping to fill in the blanks and figure out when each site was built, creating
00:50 a cultural chronology for the ancient excavation, which will hopefully provide the archaeologists
00:55 a much better view of what life may have been like 2,000 years ago, when the kingdom was
00:59 still flourishing.
