Transcript
00:00 After being selected for the McLaren Driver Development Program,
00:03 the Pinay Race Driver Bianca Bustamante is excited for the next chapter of her career.
00:09 Rafael Benaidrel of PTV Sports has the report.
00:13 The Pinay Speedster Bianca Bustamante made history
00:21 as the first female racer to be selected for the McLaren's outstanding auto racing team.
00:27 Even though she's already far from her 18th birthday,
00:30 for Bustamante, this is just the beginning
00:33 because she still has a lot to achieve as a professional racer.
00:37 I mean, yeah, a lot has happened.
00:38 I mean, I still haven't really like digested everything that has happened.
00:44 I mean, in the past years, we've had so much growth on track and off track.
00:49 You know, on track, obviously, you know, we've gotten faster
00:51 and we just signed, you know, with McLaren,
00:54 but it's kind of everything that really happened off track as well
00:58 that is so like pivotal for me.
01:01 I mean, I think we just reached 1 million on Instagram
01:05 and I think that's kind of crazy.
01:07 Bustamante admitted that until now,
01:11 she still can't believe that she got the chance.
01:14 Bustamante also hopes that it will serve as an inspiration
01:18 for female athletes who dream of being recognized
01:21 in male-dominated sports like racing.
01:24 It's so symbolic.
01:26 It's literally everything I've been fighting for my whole life.
01:30 And, you know, to fight for diversity, inclusivity in the sport
01:35 and to kind of be, you know, one of the trailblazers
01:39 and knowing that, you know, I was kind of, yeah,
01:42 the first female driver to be part of the development program.
01:45 Yeah, it's just everything I've been building up my whole life too.
01:49 And the fact that this opens not just doors for me,
01:52 but doors for a lot of the younger generation drivers
01:55 that will come up in the sport.
01:58 The fact that, you know, I can hopefully open a lot of doors for them,
02:01 then that's what it means for me.
02:03 Bustamante made a name for herself
02:06 in her W Series debut in 2022
02:09 and finished 7th in the F1 Academy season
02:14 as part of the Italian team, Prema Racing.
02:17 But next year, Bustamante will be flagging
02:20 the iconic orange colors of McLaren
02:23 as part of the Art Grand Prix in the All-Women Junior Formula category.
02:28 Rafael Banderiel, Rise and Shine, Philippines.
