00:00 Meanwhile, many stories are behind an old library in Cebu.
00:06 Although it's a historical site, it's full of unexplained events.
00:12 Let's take a look at the stories of the so-called Haunted Library
00:16 in the words of Jesse Atienza of PTV Cebu.
00:19 Some parts of this house are old and decaying.
00:28 But there's a steady and silent witness to the creation of the Cebu City,
00:35 the Rizal Memorial Library and Museum.
00:39 In the 1930s, it became the "City's Library".
00:45 Now, this is the favorite destination for those who want to study or review.
00:55 And because of its old and colorful past,
00:59 it's also full of stories of prosperity.
01:03 Sometimes we wonder why the ceiling of the comfort rooms is so high.
01:14 We asked the first one, and he said, "There's a woman who came in, but she hasn't come out yet."
01:19 We asked if there's anyone inside.
01:22 At first, there was an answer, but it was too long ago.
01:26 Manong Victor has been serving as a janitor in the house for 8 years.
01:32 He shared an unimaginable event.
01:37 The Cebu City Public Library was under a drilling operation.
01:43 We asked the first one to show us the surroundings.
01:51 He said, "I saw it myself."
01:54 I asked him, "Is this a drill?"
01:58 He said, "No, it's not. It's a room that's been drilled. It's closed. You can't get in."
02:04 We tried to go around, but we couldn't get in.
02:09 These are just a few of the stories that can't be explained,
02:13 that are covering the library and the entire house.
02:17 According to historical accounts,
02:19 a monument was built by people here in Cebu
02:24 that has the same first name as our national hero.
02:27 But a librarian gave them the idea
02:31 that it's better to build a library
02:34 as a symbol of the wisdom and courage of Gat Jose Rizal.
02:39 In 1942, Japanese soldiers invaded Cebu.
02:46 It was one of the houses that they used as a battlefield.
02:52 During the Second World War,
02:54 it was used as headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Army.
02:59 This is the place where the officers they captured were interrogated.
03:08 It was also a place where many were tortured and killed.
03:15 After the Second World War,
03:18 the house served as a hospital,
03:22 city health office,
03:24 and later as a public library and museum.
03:29 The government thought that
03:32 there are spirits living here.
03:35 But they reminded the public,
03:38 "They are free to come, and we should not be afraid.
03:43 We are stronger than them."
03:46 Before or after the house,
03:50 everything is based on stories.
03:53 It's important to respect the history that it has.
03:57 Like this book,
03:59 which witnessed many lives and deaths.
04:03 And now, it's home to books that remind of the wisdom and courage of anyone who visits.
04:11 From PTV Cebu,
04:14 Jesse Atienza, for the nation.
