00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 - Oh, I was looking for you in yoga this morning.
00:06 - Girl, I could not drag myself out of bed in time.
00:08 - Still, here you are.
00:09 - Just in time to suffer through spin class.
00:11 - Ha, you're killing it.
00:13 Really looking great.
00:14 - All because of your help.
00:15 (laughing)
00:18 - Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.
00:20 You're interested in buying some candy
00:21 for my basketball team?
00:22 Or 500 for my girl?
00:24 - Really?
00:24 Is this even legit?
00:25 - Yes ma'am.
00:26 We're collecting so we can play a game in Philadelphia.
00:28 - Are you guys any good?
00:29 - Undefeated.
00:30 - Is that so?
00:31 - It ain't no lie.
00:32 (laughing)
00:33 - I'll donate.
00:35 Keep the candy bars.
00:36 Sugar is not my friend.
00:38 - Thank you, I appreciate it.
00:39 - Good luck.
00:40 - Now it's your turn.
00:47 (gunshot)
00:49 (dramatic music)
00:52 - It's pretty today.
01:04 Well looky look.
01:06 You're actually on time.
01:08 No bad guys to catch?
01:10 What would it look like if I was late
01:13 for mom's anniversary?
01:14 - So, what's your big surprise?
01:17 - So, we all know that this is mom's favorite spot
01:21 in the entire city.
01:22 Winter, summer, spring, and fall.
01:24 And this was her favorite bench.
01:27 - Get to it, Tiff.
01:28 - I'm getting there.
01:29 Now it's hers forever.
01:38 - No way.
01:40 - Tiff.
01:41 (laughing)
01:44 Okay, come on, let's take a selfie.
01:47 - Yes.
01:48 - Mom would love this, Tiff.
02:01 - Yeah, she would.
02:02 So how you doing, Brian?
02:08 - I'm okay.
02:12 Things have been a little crazy lately, but.
02:15 - Yeah.
02:16 I spoke to Jack Knowles the other day.
02:18 He said he was trying to help you with something at work
02:21 and you cursed him out in front of the entire restaurant.
02:24 - No, he disrespected me and I called him out.
02:27 - Come on, Brian.
02:29 You can't call out your manager
02:31 for trying to help you do your job.
02:33 It doesn't work that way.
02:34 Brian.
02:36 Seriously, Brian?
02:39 You need to go down to that restaurant and apologize.
02:43 - No, I'm not apologizing for anything.
02:45 - You need to stop acting like a little kid.
02:48 - You need to stop acting like your mom.
02:50 - Brian. - Brian.
02:52 Brian!
02:53 - See, this is what I'm talking about, Tiff.
02:56 These little outbursts.
02:58 Something's not right.
03:00 He's starting to act like Uncle Jojo.
03:02 - Brian just needs to get his life together, okay?
03:06 He needs to focus on his work and his career.
03:08 - Right, hard work cures all.
03:11 - Hard work is not a bad thing, Erica.
03:13 - You're right.
03:14 But some of this mental health stuff is genetic.
03:18 It's a disease.
03:19 - Brian just needs to grow up, okay?
03:20 He needs to stop acting like a child.
03:22 I'm sorry, I have to go.
03:26 - Okay.
03:27 Thank you for that.
03:28 - Yeah.
03:28 - Mom would be really proud.
03:30 - All right.
03:31 (dramatic music)
03:34 - Hey.
03:41 Sorry I'm late.
03:41 - Just got here myself, Maggie and O.A.
03:43 talking to the witness.
03:44 Everything okay?
03:45 - Oh yeah, I'm good.
03:47 Hey, I'm Agent Wallace, this is Agent Scola.
03:49 Detective Walton.
03:51 - What do we got?
03:52 - Victim is Mia Lopez.
03:53 She's a federal correctional officer,
03:56 which is why we called you guys in.
03:58 We found her badge in her bag.
03:59 - Okay, anything stolen?
04:01 - Nope.
04:01 Seems like it's all there.
04:03 Wallet, phone, ID.
04:05 - Any physical evidence?
04:07 - Yeah, two nine millimeter cases.
04:09 - Okay, we're gonna need to take those down to 26 Fed,
04:11 along with any security footage you might've found.
04:13 - You got it.
04:14 - I just saw her.
04:17 I can't believe she just got shot.
04:19 - We know this is hard, but did you see her get shot?
04:21 - No, but I heard it.
04:23 - How many shots?
04:24 - Two.
04:25 I turned around and I saw the guy running away.
04:29 - Okay, what was he wearing?
04:30 - He was in a black jacket, the gray hoodie.
04:32 He took off running that way.
04:35 - Are you sure it was a man?
04:37 - Yeah.
04:38 Right before the gunshot, I heard him yell,
04:39 "Now it's your turn."
04:41 (suspenseful music)
04:43 - All right, so, federal correctional officer Mia Lopez
04:46 was shot and killed this morning,
04:47 walking to her car after a workout.
04:49 Nothing was stolen, and according to a witness,
04:52 the killer shouted, "Now it's your turn,"
04:54 before shooting her.
04:55 - So she was targeted.
04:57 - It looks that way, yeah.
04:58 Question is why.
04:59 At least, what else are we learning about our victim?
05:00 - Mia was on the job just under seven years
05:03 and worked the last three years
05:04 in the segregated housing unit.
05:06 - Solitary confinement means she was dealing
05:07 with the worst of the worst on a daily basis.
05:09 Any specific beefs or threats?
05:11 - There was one documented threat
05:13 by a member of the Latin Kings a few years back,
05:15 but that inmate overdosed shortly
05:19 after his release in 2020.
05:20 - Well, that's interesting,
05:21 but it doesn't mean there wasn't somebody else
05:23 who was harboring a grudge
05:24 and was smart enough to keep it a secret
05:26 until they were released, so keep digging.
05:28 Kelly, you got that footage from the scene?
05:29 - Just came in.
05:31 - Very good.
05:32 Throw it up.
05:33 - Based on the height of Mia's Honda Pilot,
05:35 I'd say our shooter's 5'10", 5'11".
05:38 - Can you rewind it, see if we can get enough
05:40 for facial rec?
05:41 - Yeah, it looks like he's wearing
05:43 some sort of surgical mask.
05:45 - All right, so what else do we know about the victim?
05:47 Any angry ex-boyfriends, husbands?
05:49 - She was single, no domestic disputes on record,
05:52 not much of a social media presence either.
05:54 She lived with her mom in the Bronx.
05:56 - Okay, let's get Tiffany's call over there right now.
05:59 - Great.
05:59 - Actually, Mrs. Lopez works downstairs.
06:01 She's a clerk with the Social Security Administration.
06:04 She's on the way out.
06:05 Said she doesn't want to make anyone go out of their way.
06:07 (dramatic music)
06:10 - She was a kind person.
06:13 Never had a problem with anybody.
06:16 - Did she seem anxious or worried at all the last few days?
06:19 - Everything was normal,
06:21 which is why all of this is such a shock.
06:23 - We understand.
06:25 It's a lot to take in.
06:26 We just need to get as much information as we can
06:29 so we can find the man that did this to Mia.
06:31 - I understand.
06:32 - Only image we have of the shooter,
06:36 he look familiar to you?
06:38 - Oh, I think I've seen him before.
06:41 He was hanging out near my apartment.
06:44 Gave off a creepy vibe.
06:47 Kept staring at me when I left for work.
06:49 - Did you get a look at his face?
06:51 - Oh, no, but he was dressed just like that,
06:55 wearing the same sweatshirt and hood.
06:57 But I think that's the guy.
06:58 - You tell Mia about him?
07:01 - But no, I thought he was just some creepy homeless guy.
07:06 - I should have said something, told somebody.
07:09 - This isn't your fault.
07:10 - But if I would have told Mia.
07:12 - Ma'am, there's only one person
07:15 that did anything wrong here,
07:16 and it is the man who shot your daughter.
07:18 - Okay, here's the lurker outside the Lopez building.
07:25 Mask is obscuring the face, but it looks like our guy.
07:29 Do we have a height match?
07:30 - Yes.
07:31 - All right, so if this is our killer,
07:32 it means he was planning the attack,
07:33 surveilling Mia, getting her routine down.
07:36 So how do we figure out who this guy is?
07:38 - Hey, lab got a hit on a partial print
07:40 in one of the shell casings they found.
07:42 Belongs to a Kenneth Nelson, born 10-2-78.
07:47 - Yeah, I got him.
07:49 Kenneth Kenny Nelson, age 44.
07:52 He's got a slew of priors, assaults, shootings,
07:55 witness intimidation, some drug cases.
07:59 Says that he's a member of the Throgs Neck Motorcycle Club.
08:02 I guess it's a biker gang up in the Bronx.
08:04 - Well, he's matched for the physicality of our killer.
08:07 - Any connection to the victim?
08:09 - He's been in and out of federal prison over the years,
08:11 was acquitted last year on a narcotics charge,
08:13 and remanded to MCC during trial.
08:15 - Okay, so he definitely would have crossed paths with Mia.
08:18 - Kelly, do we have a last known address?
08:20 - No, but his probation report says he tends bar
08:22 at a place called Rustin's.
08:23 It's over in Throgs Neck.
08:25 - Hey, I know Rustin's.
08:25 It's a sports bar.
08:27 It's got a seriously rough clientele.
08:28 Things could get ugly.
08:30 - All right, well, this man has a history of violence
08:32 and fingerprints that link him to our homicides.
08:34 So let's bring him in, but be careful.
08:37 - Copy that.
08:37 - We are in position.
08:46 - Copy that.
08:46 - As soon as you pull up, lower your boom,
08:48 turn on your bubble gums,
08:49 make a lot of noise while you're at it.
08:51 - All right, we got it, boss.
08:52 - What the hell are you doing?
09:03 - Hey, what are you doing out here?
09:05 - Kenny?
09:08 We need to talk, FBI.
09:09 - No.
09:12 - Nine millimeter.
09:21 - Kenny Nelson, you're under arrest.
09:25 (dramatic music)
09:28 - I don't know what you're talking about.
09:37 I never seen that woman before.
09:38 - Your fingerprints were all over the shell casings
09:40 laying next to her body.
09:42 - Shouldn't I have a lawyer?
09:43 - Why?
09:44 I thought you'd never seen her before.
09:45 - Yeah, I haven't.
09:46 - We pulled a nine millimeter out of your waistband, Kenny.
09:49 Come on.
09:50 - That gun's never been fired.
09:51 You can check for yourselves.
09:53 - Okay, you could have used another gun.
09:55 - You said it happened this morning, right?
09:59 - Right.
10:00 - I was at Rustin's handling a liquor license inspection.
10:04 - It doesn't matter if you pulled the trigger.
10:05 You loaded the weapon that makes you an accessory.
10:08 - Look, I had nothing to do with that lady being dead,
10:15 but I think I know why my print's on the casing.
10:19 - We are all ears, Kenny.
10:21 (dramatic music)
10:23 - Yeah, I bet you are.
10:24 Only way I can help you is to implicate myself in a felony.
10:31 I want immunity on that before I say another word.
10:34 - You give us something good that leads to something better,
10:36 we'll go to bat for you.
10:49 - I sold that gun yesterday.
10:51 - To who?
10:52 - It's a neighborhood guy, he comes into the bar.
10:54 It's a young guy.
10:56 - Okay, you got a name?
10:57 - No, but it turns out he served with the same unit
11:01 as my brother in Afghanistan.
11:03 - And what unit was that?
11:04 - First Marine Regiment.
11:06 He was on a recon team.
11:07 - So you think he's the one who murdered Mia?
11:09 - Well, that's for you to figure out.
11:11 All I know is that I sold him
11:13 one of my nine millimeters yesterday,
11:15 and that gun was loaded.
11:16 (dramatic music)
11:19 - So this is the security footage outside of Ruston's,
11:24 but I can't see his face.
11:26 - Yeah, what about the truck?
11:27 Zoom in there.
11:28 - Okay.
11:29 - That truck's 72 Hensley Tree Service.
11:33 - Shows its offices over in Locust Point.
11:38 - All right, send Tiffany's call now.
11:41 (dramatic music)
11:44 (phone ringing)
11:51 - Hey, what's up?
11:54 - We got into another argument.
11:55 Brian was going off again.
11:57 He ran out of the apartment.
11:58 He nearly knocked down Mr. Ortiz.
12:00 Now he won't answer his phone.
12:02 I know you don't want to admit it or accept it,
12:04 but he needs help.
12:05 - I'm in the middle of a homicide case,
12:06 so I can't really get involved.
12:08 - Can't really get involved, yeah.
12:09 I was waiting for that.
12:11 - Come on, don't do this right now.
12:13 - Fine, but we need to deal with this
12:15 sooner rather than later.
12:16 - Hey, you know, if you got family business, I could--
12:25 - No, it's just my sister.
12:26 She's overly dramatic.
12:27 It's my little brother.
12:30 He's acting like an idiot.
12:31 She wants to get professional help.
12:33 - You ever think about getting a man to see someone?
12:36 - He's just a baby of the family,
12:37 so he just needs to adjust to the new world.
12:40 - You know, I saw my first therapist at 12th.
12:43 Much as a bitch about it, if I'm being honest,
12:47 helped more than it hurt.
12:48 - Well, a barista has a long way from bedside.
12:53 - Yeah, that's one of my trucks.
13:00 - Who drives it?
13:01 - Michael Landry.
13:06 - Why?
13:07 - He's in trouble with the FBI.
13:08 - Well, we need to speak to him about a shooting.
13:10 - I'm sorry to hear that.
13:11 I can't say I'm surprised.
13:14 - Why's that?
13:16 - You know, I used to be a knucklehead when I was young too,
13:19 so I got a soft spot for him.
13:22 But after you and me, we're done punching it out,
13:24 I'd be buying you a drink.
13:25 With this Landry kid, he has a hard time moving on.
13:30 Fixates on stuff.
13:31 So I just get him as much work as I can
13:34 and try to keep him out of trouble.
13:36 - You know where we can find him?
13:38 - Yeah, I'm pretty sure he lives with his mother.
13:41 - She's a real piece of work.
13:43 - Well, if you talk to him or he comes by,
13:49 just don't let him know you've seen us.
13:50 - Sure.
13:51 I don't know what you think he did,
13:53 but deep down, he's good people.
13:55 - Jubal, found the guy that bought the nine millimeter.
14:02 Sending you the details.
14:03 (dramatic music)
14:06 - Michael Landry, FBI.
14:13 - We have a warrant.
14:17 (dramatic music)
14:22 (phone ringing)
14:25 (dramatic music)
14:27 (dramatic music)
14:30 - Miss Landry?
14:57 (dramatic music)
14:58 Who the hell are you?
14:59 - I'm with the FBI.
15:02 - Oh, good for you.
15:05 - No Michael.
15:08 - Hi.
15:10 - We need to speak to your son.
15:14 - Why do you want to talk to my Michael?
15:16 - I'm afraid he's in a bit of trouble.
15:18 - Michael in trouble with the FBI, that's a good one.
15:20 - When was the last time you spoke to him?
15:25 - I don't know, a while.
15:27 He's had his cell phone shut off.
15:28 - How long's a while?
15:29 An hour, a day, a week?
15:30 - Something like that.
15:31 - Okay, so you're saying you haven't spoken to him lately?
15:34 - I just spoke plain English to you, did I not?
15:36 - Miss Landry, we need to talk to your son.
15:39 - I don't know where he is.
15:41 Now, if you don't mind, my shows are coming on.
15:44 - Miss Landry?
15:47 We think Michael might need some help.
15:51 - Oh, really?
15:52 Are you another expert on the matter of my son?
15:54 - No, ma'am.
15:55 It's never ending.
15:56 First the Marines, and then those geniuses
15:58 down at the so-called Veterans Hospital,
16:01 educated beyond their intelligence.
16:03 Every single one of them, it's a plague.
16:05 - Okay.
16:06 If you do speak to Michael, please let us know.
16:12 - Michael ain't perfect, but he's a good soul.
16:15 At least he was before they made him
16:18 do all those horrible things over there in Afghanistan.
16:21 He wasn't the same after that.
16:22 If you're looking for someone to blame, blame them.
16:25 Not me, and not my Michael.
16:26 - And for you, maybe a little bit of space.
16:32 - Landry's smart.
16:35 He's already halfway to Canada.
16:37 Just didn't have to be like this, you know?
16:40 His mother got him some help.
16:41 - Erica, can I call you back?
16:45 He's what?
16:48 Okay.
16:53 Well, can you handle it?
16:55 No, I just...
16:58 Okay, okay, I got it.
17:00 I'll see what I can do.
17:03 - Everything all right?
17:05 - Brian's at a restaurant he used to work at,
17:10 causing a scene.
17:11 She said he's sitting at the bar, staring people down,
17:14 and he's refusing to leave.
17:15 She's just scared they're gonna call the cops.
17:18 I'm sure it's nothing.
17:19 I mean, like I said, my sister has a tendency
17:21 to blow things out of proportion.
17:22 If the restaurant's literally on the way,
17:24 why don't we just stop by,
17:25 make sure things don't go from bad to worse?
17:28 - I mean, we're in the middle of a case.
17:29 It's not gonna help my family if I get fired.
17:31 - No, don't worry about that, okay?
17:33 We get in and out fast enough,
17:35 we don't have to explain anything.
17:37 - Brian?
17:42 Brian!
17:46 - NYPD!
17:52 - You called the cops on me?
17:53 - Put the bottle down!
17:54 Hey, this is my brother.
17:56 Please, I can talk him down.
17:58 - You called them!
17:59 I didn't call anyone, I swear.
18:01 Put the bottle down now!
18:03 - Come on, guys, she used to be on the job with you.
18:06 This is a family thing.
18:07 We got this.
18:08 - He's calling people and telling them I'm a scumbag.
18:13 He called all my friends.
18:15 He called Erica.
18:16 Now you.
18:19 Now everybody hates me.
18:21 - Brian, I didn't call.
18:22 - Shut up! - Hey!
18:23 Brian, come on, okay?
18:24 He didn't call me.
18:25 Just put the bottle down, okay?
18:30 And where's this coming from?
18:31 Nobody hates me.
18:32 - Everybody hates me!
18:33 I'm gonna count to three.
18:35 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
18:36 - Brian, Brian?
18:38 Okay, I need you to focus.
18:39 Look, look, look, look, focus on me.
18:41 Brian, focus, okay?
18:44 Focus on me.
18:44 Okay?
18:49 You're my little brother.
18:51 Brian, I could never hate you.
18:53 Please.
18:59 Please put the bottle down.
19:01 It's okay.
19:05 It's okay.
19:08 It's okay.
19:14 All right?
19:15 We just gotta figure it out.
19:17 (Brian crying)
19:20 - Got it, got it.
19:22 Okay, look, this is my brother.
19:25 - I understand that.
19:26 - Okay, so can you please,
19:28 please put yourself in my shoes?
19:30 - Is it chalk?
19:36 - Yeah.
19:36 Come on.
19:39 Mr. Nolan says he's not gonna press charges.
19:40 - Just get him the hell out of here, okay?
19:42 - Of course.
19:43 Okay, we got it.
19:44 Thank you for your understanding.
19:49 Look, I gotta get back to work.
19:50 Can you take him home?
19:51 - Yeah, I got it.
19:51 We'll talk later.
19:52 - Yeah, thanks, Tiff.
19:53 - It's a good thing that we got there before the cops did.
19:57 - Yeah.
19:58 - But I think it's safe to say some professional help
20:00 would be a step in the right direction.
20:02 - So is some grown-up-style self-control.
20:05 - He needs to talk to someone, Tiff, to a professional.
20:08 - And this professional's gonna what?
20:10 Say some magic words and change his life?
20:12 It doesn't happen that way.
20:13 People have to work through the tough times.
20:15 They have to deal with their own business.
20:17 - Yeah, well, not everyone is as tough as you are.
20:19 - That's not what I meant.
20:20 - No, I'm trying to say that--
20:22 - Trying to what?
20:23 - Mental illness is a real thing.
20:28 He can't just tough that out.
20:34 - Let's just get our heads back in the case.
20:40 Focus on that, okay?
20:41 (dramatic music)
20:47 (people chattering)
20:50 - 22, he's out there shooting people.
20:51 First question is, is it random or is it targeted?
20:53 - I'm gonna have to believe it's targeted,
20:54 otherwise it would've shot more people.
20:56 - Right, now his mom said she was trying to call him.
20:57 We have that number?
20:58 - We do, but it's been shut off.
21:00 - All right, stay on it.
21:01 Let me know the second it goes live.
21:02 In the meantime, how we doing
21:03 on the deep dive into his past?
21:05 - He wasn't lying to Nelson.
21:06 He really was Marine recon.
21:08 And he definitely was involved in a lot of firefights.
21:10 Looks like he exhibited some symptoms of mental illness
21:13 during his time in Afghanistan
21:14 and received a medical discharge.
21:16 - Right, so he's a trained warrior,
21:18 adrift with no war to fight.
21:20 - And then we're still lacking motive for Mia's death,
21:22 and I am not buying that she's a random victim.
21:25 - Found something interesting on a video scrub
21:26 of the cameras around the area Landry lives.
21:28 Looks like the mother probably lied about seeing him lately.
21:31 - Shocking.
21:32 - Picked this up off a camera top of her block one hour ago.
21:36 It's his mother's 2006 Nissan Altima, so no GPS,
21:40 but through LPRs and traffic cams.
21:41 Last thing I can tell you for certain,
21:43 he got off at the BQE Cabin Plaza exit 11 minutes ago,
21:46 and there's been no traffic cam sighting since.
21:49 Based on that high probability,
21:50 he stopped somewhere on Henry.
21:52 - Let's get the team to downtown Brooklyn.
21:56 - We have eyes on our Nissan, Henry Street 100 block,
22:03 right outside the federal courthouse.
22:05 There's no one inside.
22:07 (gunshots)
22:15 - I'm with the FBI.
22:17 You're gonna be okay.
22:18 - Which way did the shooter go?
22:22 - He ran to the left.
22:24 - What was he wearing?
22:25 - Black jacket.
22:25 - Call it in.
22:28 - Yeah.
22:29 Shots fired.
22:30 Multiple victims down, some ambulances.
22:32 (dramatic music)
22:45 - Suspect is moving east on Pier Pot.
22:47 - Everybody get out!
22:50 (gunshots)
22:52 - What happened?
23:03 - He took my car, and my daughter's still in it!
23:07 - Our suspect, Landry, is escalating.
23:12 He left two people shot, one fatally at the courthouse,
23:14 and then he carjacked a vehicle
23:16 with 12-year-old Emily Barnes in the backseat.
23:18 So what do we have on the Barnes' vehicle?
23:19 - It's a Mercedes with all the latest tech.
23:20 I'm just patching the GPS.
23:22 Got it.
23:25 Landry is moving north into Williamsburg.
23:27 - Yeah, we sent out a Bolo citywide.
23:28 All precincts are on high alert.
23:29 - Very good.
23:30 Okay.
23:33 Why isn't it moving?
23:34 What does the vehicle's operating system say?
23:36 Is it in park?
23:37 - Negative.
23:38 It shows it's still in drive,
23:38 but the airbag's just deployed.
23:39 I think he must've crashed.
23:40 - Okay, that's the 1100 block of Milton Street, right?
23:42 - Correct.
23:43 - Let's get the team over there now.
23:45 (tires screeching)
23:48 - Emily?
23:58 - It's okay.
24:01 You're safe now.
24:02 Okay, we have Emily.
24:05 She's alive.
24:05 - He's gone.
24:12 (dramatic music)
24:16 - Media is in a frenzy over this.
24:18 They want answers and we don't have them.
24:19 - I'd love to give them some,
24:20 but I can't find the shooters or I'm a reason yet.
24:22 - All right, well, what do we know about the shooting
24:25 before he hijacked the mother and drove off with the daughter?
24:27 - Yeah, there were two victims.
24:28 Alex Springer, 24, delivery worker and federal magistrate.
24:31 Angela Mason, 56.
24:33 According to two eyewitnesses, Landry fired on the judge
24:35 just after she came out of the courthouse.
24:37 Springer just happened to be crossing on her way
24:38 to make a delivery,
24:39 so it looks like Miss Springer was just in the wrong place
24:41 at the wrong time.
24:42 The judge was Landry's target.
24:44 - That's two people who work for the justice system.
24:46 I'm seeing a pattern.
24:47 Is there any connection between Mia Lopez and the judge?
24:49 - So I've been digging into the judge's criminal caseload
24:52 going back seven years that overlap Mia Lopez's.
24:55 No nexus.
24:56 - I think we might've found a connection on the civil side.
24:58 Can you?
24:59 - Yeah, what do you got?
25:00 - This is Michael's sister, Haley.
25:02 She was taken into federal police custody six years ago
25:05 during a social justice protest.
25:07 She died two days later of a brain aneurysm
25:10 that the family claims was because of an injury
25:12 sustained while she was in custody,
25:14 but there's no evidence to support that.
25:15 - Okay, so what does this have to do with Mia and our judge?
25:17 - Right, so the mother sued and lost.
25:19 The verdict just came down last week.
25:21 Mia Lopez was named as a defendant
25:23 because she processed Haley at MCC that day
25:25 and allegedly refused her medical attention.
25:28 There was an arresting officer
25:29 that was also named as a defendant,
25:31 and Officer Ronald Waits.
25:33 - And let me guess, the presiding judge was our Judge Mason.
25:36 - Correct.
25:37 - All right, so our mystery is solved.
25:39 Mentally unstable Landry is convinced
25:41 that his sister was killed because of the arrest
25:44 and he's taking justice into his own hands.
25:46 - All right, let's warn everybody involved in the case,
25:48 jurors, attorneys, and let's start with the named defendants.
25:51 - Yes, ma'am.
25:51 You heard her.
25:52 Let's get the team to Officer Waits' house right now.
25:54 (suspenseful music)
25:57 (gunshot)
26:10 - Don't shoot him, a cop.
26:12 - We know.
26:13 - Where's Landry?
26:14 - He saw you coming, he ran upstairs.
26:15 (gunshot)
26:19 - Cover me.
26:22 He's running.
26:23 - Go, go, go.
26:23 - He's running out the back.
26:32 - Help's coming.
26:36 (suspenseful music)
26:39 - Where is he?
26:49 - He's gone.
26:50 - Drew, well Landry was last seen in Whitestone
26:52 near 147th Street.
26:53 We need to set up a containment now.
26:57 (suspenseful music)
27:00 - All right, people, let's throw everything we have
27:02 into cornering Landry.
27:03 Where do we stand?
27:04 - We had him on the 18th Avenue traffic cams
27:07 and that's adjacent to a transit hub.
27:08 - Did he hop a train?
27:10 - Nothing's popping up on any of the MTA cameras.
27:12 - Wait, a lot of cabs pick up right there.
27:14 - All right, so maybe he hired a hack.
27:15 Check it out.
27:16 - I'll scrub back on the exterior cameras.
27:18 Yes, there he is getting into a cab.
27:22 TLC license 56 Yankee 2,
27:25 which is now tracking west on 18th Avenue.
27:28 - Can you get up on the dash cam?
27:29 - Negative, non-existent.
27:31 - Great.
27:31 Okay, Maggie, OA, looks like you're running parallel to him.
27:34 Landry's phone is back up.
27:35 He's calling his mother.
27:37 - Looks like the cab has now stopped at 149th.
27:39 - Okay, is the phone in the cab?
27:41 - Negative.
27:41 It looks like he made a 29 second call to his mother
27:44 and now it's dark.
27:46 - Even though he's spiraling,
27:47 he's smart enough not to go online.
27:48 Maggie, OA, corner of 18th Avenue and 149th.
27:52 (suspenseful music)
27:55 - We just landed.
27:59 We have eyes on the cab.
28:04 - Hey, we're with the FBI.
28:05 You're gonna be okay.
28:05 I need an ambulance to my location ASAP.
28:07 What happened?
28:08 - He tried to leave without paying.
28:10 When I tried to stop him, he shot me.
28:13 The guy was crazy, I tell you.
28:14 He didn't need to shoot me.
28:16 - Okay, which way did he go?
28:17 - No, I don't know.
28:18 I didn't see him.
28:19 - Triple letter shot the cabbie.
28:22 We have no idea which direction he's going.
28:24 (coughing)
28:26 - I expect such quality.
28:33 - Mrs. Landry, we know you lied to us
28:35 about when you've last seen your son.
28:38 And we know you've been talking to him.
28:39 - Haven't you people made us suffer enough?
28:42 Just leave me alone.
28:44 - I'm sorry about what happened to your daughter,
28:47 but we need you to help us find Michael
28:48 before more people get hurt.
28:50 - My son couldn't do what you're saying.
28:51 He's not like that.
28:52 - You need to stop with the nonsense.
28:55 - No, you need to stop the nonsense.
28:57 First you kill my daughter,
28:58 and now you're making my son out
28:59 to be some kind of mass murderer.
29:01 - Look, I'm gonna tell you the truth, okay?
29:04 Sometimes when it comes to family
29:07 or the people that we love,
29:08 it is hard to see what is right in front of our face.
29:12 Maybe we're afraid,
29:13 or we just don't wanna deal with the damn truth.
29:16 But you know as well as I do that your son is out there
29:21 and he is hunting people down with a gun.
29:24 (dramatic music)
29:27 - Is it really him?
29:34 - Yes, that is Michael.
29:36 We understand that he's angry
29:49 about what happened to his sister,
29:50 but this obviously is not the best way
29:52 for him to express his anger.
29:54 And this is not going to end well for Michael
29:56 unless you help us find him.
29:59 Because right now,
30:00 there are a lot of law enforcement agents out there
30:03 looking for him.
30:04 And they got guns too.
30:06 - So please, tell us what you know
30:14 before more innocent people get hurt.
30:15 - I'll do what I can,
30:18 but I don't know where he is or what he's doing.
30:21 - Well, we know you spoke to him twice.
30:23 Did he say anything?
30:24 - He wasn't making any sense.
30:26 He was so angry, that's all I know.
30:29 He just kept saying that he was doing what he needed to do,
30:33 that Haley deserved justice.
30:35 - Okay, and that's it?
30:36 No specifics?
30:37 - He was yelling about the doctor,
30:41 that he was the worst of the worst.
30:43 - Does this doctor have a name?
30:45 - Schultz.
30:46 - Jubal, we've got Landry's next target.
30:50 - This Dr. Schultz, he told the jury
30:52 my daughter's head trauma didn't cause her death.
30:55 Don't believe that for a damn second.
30:58 - Thank you, Ms. Landry.
31:02 - Please don't hurt my boy.
31:03 (dramatic music)
31:14 - FBI, get back! - Move!
31:20 Get out of the way!
31:21 - Move!
31:22 - It's Schultz.
31:25 What happened?
31:26 - He's been shot, ambulance is on its way.
31:28 - Okay, did you see the shooter?
31:29 - No.
31:30 - I need your help, his throat's bleeding.
31:31 - Okay.
31:32 Come on, Dr. Schultz, stay with us, okay?
31:35 We're gonna get you to a hospital.
31:36 - We're losing him.
31:37 - Come on, come on, Schultz.
31:39 - Where's the ambo?
31:40 - He's gone.
31:45 Forget the ambo.
31:51 Roll the crime lab.
31:52 - Somebody give me some good news.
31:59 Still no visual on the ground,
32:00 but NYPD is doing containment and a grid search.
32:02 - I think I got something.
32:03 Landry's phone just went live.
32:05 He's calling his mother again.
32:06 - All right, good thing he's still a mama's boy.
32:08 - Where's it pinging?
32:09 - Williamsburg.
32:10 No visuals, but I have a lock on GPS.
32:12 He's heading north on Kent Avenue.
32:15 - Nice, can we be more precise?
32:20 - Got him, he's approaching North 15th.
32:21 - Yeah.
32:22 - Hey!
32:44 (tires screeching)
32:47 - Hey, Landry, stop!
32:57 (grunting)
33:00 - Tim!
33:16 - Get him!
33:17 (gunshots)
33:19 - Landry, freeze!
33:36 (grunting)
33:38 - Drop the gun!
33:49 Just put the gun down.
34:04 - Michael!
34:05 Take it easy.
34:07 - They killed my sister.
34:12 - I understand.
34:13 You lost someone you were close to, okay?
34:16 But this is not gonna bring Haley back.
34:18 - Don't you dare say her name.
34:19 - Just set the gun down, all right?
34:21 Then we can look into what happened to your sister.
34:23 - It's too late for that.
34:25 - Michael, please.
34:27 - You just need help, okay?
34:34 Set it down. - Shut up!
34:35 You people think you can get away with anything.
34:39 And you'll never pay for what you do.
34:43 - Your mother loves you, right, Michael?
34:45 Do you really wanna leave her alone?
34:51 - At least you let her.
35:03 - It's just too late.
35:05 - Michael, Michael, no!
35:10 (dramatic music)
35:13 - Hey, I need to get over to my sister's.
35:33 - Do you mind? - Yeah, of course.
35:34 Go ahead, I'll take care of the paperwork.
35:36 Oh, hey, Tiff. - Yeah?
35:38 - Just don't forget, Dr. Skola's on call 24/7.
35:42 If you need to talk.
35:47 - Thanks.
35:50 (dramatic music)
35:53 - What?
36:05 What's going on?
36:06 - We need to talk about getting you help.
36:13 - Help?
36:16 For what?
36:20 - Your mood swings, your anger, your paranoia.
36:23 I mean, it could be nothing, but if it's not--
36:28 - No, no way, I'm not doing that, I'm not crazy.
36:31 - There's nothing to be ashamed of, Brian.
36:33 It's an illness.
36:35 Just like any other illness, you just need some treatment.
36:38 Maybe just someone to talk to
36:39 who has an open mind about this.
36:41 - No, no way, I'm outta here.
36:43 - Brian, no, no, you're not walking out, okay?
36:45 That's not gonna happen.
36:48 (dramatic music)
36:51 - What the hell does that mean?
36:52 - That means that either you're gonna come with me
36:56 and Erica voluntarily and get evaluated,
36:58 or those police officers at the restaurant today,
37:05 they're gonna come back and they're gonna arrest you.
37:07 - You wouldn't do that to me.
37:17 (dramatic music)
37:20 - Come on, Brian.
37:21 Let's just do this.
37:24 It's gonna be okay.
37:38 We just have to get in front of the problem.
37:41 I promise, it's gonna be fine.
37:43 (dramatic music)
37:46 I love you.
37:48 We love you.
37:51 We love you, Brian.
37:52 Let's just do this.
37:59 - I'm scared.
38:07 I'm scared.
38:09 (dramatic music)
38:12 - I got you, okay?
38:15 I got you, Brian.
38:16 I got you, okay?
38:18 I got you.
38:19 You're gonna be good.
38:24 (dramatic music)
38:39 You're gonna be okay.
38:41 (dramatic music)
38:44 (dramatic music)
