00:00 What is up Aggies fans?
00:07 D-Card Tim here with your Texas A&M Aggies Daily Blitz.
00:10 A post-South Carolina edition as the Aggies get back on track on Saturday with a 30-17
00:19 win over the Gamecocks there at Kyle Field.
00:22 The offense kind of once again starting off kind of slow.
00:26 Really the entire team starting kind of slow, but they're towards the second quarter.
00:32 Found their legs even after the Gamecocks scored on the opening drive there and the
00:37 Aggies went down.
00:38 Max Johnson got several players involved in the passing game.
00:42 He is really good at doing, by the way.
00:45 Really proficient at that.
00:46 We also saw Aniah Smith make history with a long catch.
00:51 I wanted to talk about basically here quickly, it is a Blitz, it's not an extended podcast,
00:58 talk about three reasons why the Aggies were successful.
01:00 These things that I noticed.
01:01 You're welcome to have your own observations, I'm sure you do.
01:05 And you're welcome to share those.
01:07 You can find me on Twitter @IndyCarTim.

01:45 So three big things here that we saw.
01:48 The Aggies were without Le'Veon Moss for this game and it was an undisclosed injury.
01:55 They didn't say why he wasn't playing.
01:58 But in his stead, Reuben Owens sort of became the face of the ground game.
02:04 He had the most carries.
02:05 Of course, the former five-star recruit from El Campo, Texas, tied the game with his 14-yard
02:10 touchdown run with nine minutes to go in the first half.
02:15 That kind of set the tone for the Aggies.
02:17 For the second half, he finished the day with 18 carries for 40 yards and of course that
02:20 one touchdown.
02:21 He also had one catch for five yards.
02:24 I think Owens is going to be spectacular in the coming years for the Aggies and their
02:30 run game and really their whole offense.
02:32 The guy can catch.
02:33 They're not really utilizing him out of the backfield.
02:36 I think once Anais Smith is gone, you will see Le'Veon Moss, or I'm sorry, you'll see
02:42 Reuben Owens and what he can do in the passing game.
02:48 As far as the passing game goes, should we call this the air raid Aggies?
02:53 With no disrespect to Coach Mike Leach, may he rest in peace.
02:58 But man, you know, after that very painfully slow start that the Aggies got off to, Max
03:05 Johnson, as he, like I said, as he is prone to do, got the offense back on track in the
03:12 second quarter.
03:13 The Aggies scored three unanswered touchdowns that flipped that seven to zero deficit to
03:18 a 21 to seven lead for the Aggies.
03:21 And a lot of that damage was done through the air.
03:24 Anais Smith had six catches for 118 yards.
03:27 More on that later.
03:28 Evan Stewart caught six passes for 55 yards.
03:34 And of course, Jadae Walker, Reuben Owens each had a catch.
03:39 Jake Johnson, Noah Thomas, and Max Wright had two catches each in the game.
03:43 Like I said, Johnson gets a lot of guys involved in the offense in the passing game.
03:48 He is really, really good at that.
03:49 I don't know that that's a Bobby Petrino thing, or if that's just something Max Johnson is
03:54 really, really good at.
03:55 We didn't see Connor Wiegman so much having success with that when he was on the field.
04:00 And of course, we hope he comes back quickly.
04:03 But the story of the day, certainly, as Anais Smith moves into the Aggies all-time top 10
04:12 for all-purpose yards.
04:14 He had a 26-yard catch that put the Aggies in the red zone.
04:20 He then scored on that on an 80.
04:23 Of course, remember back in the Southwest Classic against Arkansas, he scored on that
04:28 82-yard punt return that really set his tone, I thought, for the year.
04:34 Yes, that was week five, but he hadn't done a whole lot, hadn't found the end zone.
04:40 So I think that really set the tone and that went over Arkansas in the Southwest Classic.
04:46 But he had a 42-yard catch there in the closing minutes of the second quarter there in the
04:50 first half.
04:52 That was a great catch and a great run after the catch.
04:55 That's the stuff that we're used to seeing Anais Smith do.
04:57 Again, finishing with six catches for 118 yards on the touchdown.
05:01 And that play, that 42-yard score, put him in the Aggies all-time top 10 for all-purpose
05:09 yards.
05:11 So congratulations to Anais Smith.
05:14 We know that he wanted to come back this year after suffering that leg injury in the Southwest
05:18 Classic last year, breaking his leg.
05:21 He wanted to come back this year and maybe finish some unfinished business with A&M,
05:26 but it doesn't look like he'll get to that goal, nor will the rest of the Aggies this
05:30 year in somewhat of a disappointing season.
05:33 But the Aggies have Ole Miss coming up on November 4th, Mississippi State on the 11th,
05:40 November 18th, Abilene Christian, and then they finish off the season on November 25th,
05:45 of course, against LSU.
05:47 You know, if you win out, good things will happen for you.
05:52 But man, with the three losses, there's not too many good things that are going to happen
05:57 for the Aggies as far as an SEC championship game appearance, of course, that's out of
06:02 the question.
06:03 But, you know, look for a New Year's Day bowl game.
06:07 That's about the best you can hope for right now.
06:10 And you just want everything to go well for the Aggies the rest of the year.
06:12 Keep everybody healthy.
06:14 Get Connor Wigman back and maybe get Max Johnson out there to continue to lead the offense,
06:22 lead Petrino's offense, and get Petrino a little bit of experience calling plays in
06:25 some of these situations.
06:27 So it is what it is.
06:28 I appreciate you guys tuning in here today with us on the Aggies Daily Blitz.
06:33 We'll do some Ole Miss previews here during the week.
