00:00 Well it's another anxious day for the Tara residents staying behind me here at the evacuation
00:06 centre in Dolby.
00:07 There's around 260 people staying here.
00:10 There's 40 more at a second evacuation centre in the town of Chinchilla.
00:14 Now these people have obviously been displaced by that fire in Tara that is still out of
00:19 control.
00:20 There's multiple warnings there telling some residents to leave immediately and others
00:23 that it's not safe to return home.
00:26 So these people will be waiting to go back to their homes and assess the damage when
00:30 they're able to.
00:31 That fire has been going since Monday.
00:33 It's burned through more than 30,000 hectares of land.
00:36 It's destroyed 30 sheds and 39 homes.
00:40 Now this all really flared up on Friday amid some unfavourable conditions that caused the
00:45 blaze to intensify then.
00:47 Yesterday we had a day of more favourable conditions that allowed firefighters to be
00:52 more proactive and get on the front foot.
00:54 They got two blazes here on the Western Downs under control and cut containment lines around
00:59 this Tara fire which goes to show just how important it is for the weather to really
01:03 play ball in terms of what it's throwing at us.
01:06 We're expecting favourable conditions again today and tomorrow so firefighters are hoping
01:10 to get some more good work done then and fingers crossed that's the case because conditions
01:14 are expected to worsen again on Tuesday.
