00:05 Okay, guys, helmets on, please. Stand by to shoot.
00:08 Neil Blomkamp is a wonderful director. He's got such a great creative vision.
00:14 He wanted to make it really practical and sharp, like in real life.
00:17 He wanted to use drones and get cameras in places you've never seen before in racing.
00:21 And he just absolutely delivered on it.
00:23 There's a lot of different approaches to movies like this,
00:25 especially in the 21st century.
00:26 The temptation is to go all digital.
00:28 The cars could be animated.
00:30 You could film the tracks as background plates and do digital cars.
00:32 But in this case, everything is real.
00:35 It's always a treat for an audience when something feels more real.
00:41 Shooting this movie without green screens, without projectors,
00:44 I think it gives a more honest performance.
00:46 It's very practical.
00:48 That's what I got from Neil when I met him, to make it as real as possible.
00:51 How can the motion of high-speed racing be conveyed to the audience
00:57 in a way that feels like you're moving or that it's visceral or experiential?
01:02 Most of that comes down to photography style choices.
01:05 When he actually comes around...
01:07 Go from your rear view mirror to the real car.
01:09 Anybody can't turn the TV and see what's happening.
01:12 And so visually, you have to bring something else that you do not see on TV.
01:16 And that is the challenge.
