00:00 It was about 40km towards Gundawendi about three hours ago and the road was closed from
00:09 there but it's recently downgraded to just watch and act out there now.
00:16 They've got that fire under control.
00:18 There's one a little bit further east in a farmer's paddock which is burning his hay
00:24 in that so I don't know what's going on with that now.
00:27 The road to St George is now open so things are looking like they might be turning for
00:32 the positive.
00:33 Ah good stuff.
00:34 And so are there many homes around where the fire has actually been burning through?
00:39 I can't really, I'm not really too sure about that from around, I know it is on farmers
00:46 properties and out here their properties are rather large so I don't know if it has made
00:49 it to their homes or not.
00:50 I couldn't tell you that.
00:52 Yeah right.
00:53 And are you ready, it sounds like things are getting better at the moment and it's kind
00:57 of considerably cooler there in the last couple of days than it has been, hasn't it?
01:00 But the winds have been on.
01:02 Yeah, the last couple of days, Wednesday was like in the mid 40s here and then Thursday,
01:09 Friday cooled down a bit but the winds did really pick up this morning so it's caused
01:14 a bit of havoc making fires jump the highway and doing what it done.
01:20 And are you still ready to evacuate if you need to?
01:23 Yeah, yeah we've still got our van hooked up behind us and we've got all our staff ready
01:28 to go if we need to but I don't think that will happen now so fingers crossed everything
01:33 should be good.
01:34 Yeah good stuff.
01:35 And so what's involved in that process of kind of deciding what you're going to take
01:40 in your van that's ready to go and did you fit much into it?
01:46 Well our van is our home so we've got everything in there that we need and the people that
01:50 work here they live in little dongers accommodation so we just told them to pack the necessities
01:55 in a bag for a couple of days and see how we go.
01:59 And what's it like in town now, has it actually been pretty busy with activity because you've
02:03 got all the fireys?
02:04 Yeah, our accommodation here is booked out with all the fireys, there's 20 rooms so they're
02:10 all booked out and we've been busy getting food and stuff ready for them, lunch and dinners
02:15 and we're in the middle of getting that ready for them again now.
02:18 There's about 50 of them we've got to cook for at the moment so things are pretty hectic
02:23 here so it's good.
02:24 Right okay so we shouldn't keep you for too much longer.
02:28 And how...
02:29 Yeah no it's all good.
02:30 Yeah and so because Moonee's a town of about kind of 180 people is it and how long have
02:33 you lived there?
02:34 My wife and I we've been here since January.
02:40 And what attracted you to Moonee?
02:44 We just like to work and travel and see different places, three months at a time but this has
02:49 been 10 months now that's how we just like it, it's a good spot.
02:52 Yep so there's kind of good community spirit there?
02:55 Yeah the community spirit here is very good, this is like the meeting place here, the roadhouse
03:00 and bar and everybody sort of flocks together, it's not a bad spot to be.
