00:02 - It's a different thing now with the life
00:07 that I have today.
00:08 (speaking in foreign language)
00:09 I mean, a lot of people eavesdropping on this conversation
00:11 would say, (speaking in foreign language)
00:15 I mean, can you give us an idea of how it is like?
00:18 - Oh my gosh, it's so busy.
00:21 - (speaking in foreign language)
00:21 - It's very different.
00:23 Equally fulfilling, very busy,
00:27 just like when you're in show business.
00:30 I do much more traveling now, in my life now,
00:34 than I did when I was in show business.
00:36 But I think we're all doing important things,
00:38 whether you're in show business or you're not,
00:40 you're all kind of working on an important mission.
00:42 So it's not that much different.
00:43 - We have roles to play.
00:44 - We have roles to play.
00:45 - Did it come to a point when you started to look at it
00:49 from a very serious point of view?
00:51 What is my process?
00:52 How do I choose my roles?
00:54 Not yet done, I'm not talking about that yet, okay?
00:56 Did you get into that point?
00:58 - No, I didn't.
00:59 I wish I had.
01:00 I think my process was very clear cut.
01:04 What I said was, I just realized at some point that,
01:09 you know, Filipino fans are amazing.
01:11 They look up to the artists and really try to,
01:16 as a model, as a role model.
01:20 And I didn't realize I was a role model
01:22 until much later in my career.
01:25 And when I found out that I was a role model,
01:28 that's when everything changed.
01:29 And I said, "Oh wait, I need to be much more careful
01:32 "about the roles I choose.
01:34 "I need to be much more careful about what I say in public,
01:37 "what I wear."
01:38 You know, I became very conscious of the example
01:43 I was giving to the public.
01:45 - When did that happen?
01:46 - It started to happen a little bit before Darna,
01:50 but it's solidified in Darna.
01:52 Because I remember I was on a float.
01:57 I think it was going down Rojas Boulevard
01:59 and I was on a float.
02:00 And I was looking down and you had (speaking in foreign language)
02:05 - And kids.
02:08 - Yes, they were all there and they were looking up
02:11 and they couldn't, I think, separate me from the character.
02:15 And therefore I had to be very conscious of how I behave,
02:20 not only to protect the Darna image,
02:25 but also to protect what they thought was,
02:28 "How do you behave in the world?"
02:30 And I wanted to be careful that I was modeling
02:32 the behavior I want to see in the world.
02:35 Rather than talk about things that were very frivolous.
02:39 So even to this day, I'm very careful about the messaging
02:43 I put out in the world.
02:44 I think that's super important.
02:46 (speaking in foreign language)
02:48 - Do you get people saying, "Are you Darna?"
02:53 - Yeah, yes, but I mean, they'd have to be very old
02:56 to say that.
02:58 Okay, sorry, that's our general, I'm sorry.
03:00 (laughing)
03:01 Okay, I'm putting us down.
03:03 But, oh, ouch.
03:04 Okay, no, no.
03:05 (speaking in foreign language)
03:08 No, clearly not enough because everybody thinks
03:10 that's so funny.
03:11 I don't know how.
03:12 - My accent. - Did I say it with an--
03:13 - Bob, can you help us? - I said it with an accent?
03:15 - Yes, uh-oh.
03:16 Darna! - Okay, come on.
03:18 - Bom-bom, can you just make us--
03:19 - Okay, okay. - He does it very--
03:21 - Darna!
03:22 - Oh! (laughing)
03:25 Is that the way I would say it?
03:27 - It's so cute.
03:28 - Okay. - I mean, he remembers
03:30 everything about it. - Oh, that's so sweet.
03:31 - He remembers everything about it.
03:33 Is there any other important movie
03:35 that you remember having done?
03:37 - I don't know that it's important,
03:42 but it was certainly one of the more memorable movies,
03:45 and I so enjoyed making it.
03:48 So my first movie with Fernando Poe,
03:51 I did it, I subsequently did two more movies with him,
03:55 but I loved my time.
03:57 Any time I'm spending with FBJ is just golden.
04:01 I love the man.
04:03 - Bucket man.
04:04 - He is, it's kind of the golden age of cinema.
04:09 He was like the last, right?
04:11 So he was a complete gentleman,
04:14 larger than life personality,
04:17 just really amazing,
04:22 and when I tried to retire from show business,
04:25 I remember I was in Hong Kong,
04:26 and he called me and he said,
04:27 "You have to come back and shoot another film with me.
04:30 "I promise it'll be your last movie."
04:33 And so he said, "If you come back for two weeks,
04:36 "I'll finish all of your scenes, and that's it."
04:38 So I came back.
04:40 I said, "Ronnie, I'll only come back for you."
04:42 And I did, because he is just such an amazing man,
04:46 and I feel really bad that we've lost him,
04:48 but he is incredible.
04:50 - Great man.
