00:00 Last fall, we were all taken by surprise when our head judge Len Goodman announced his retirement.
00:06 Just a few months later, we were shocked and saddened by the news of his passing.

00:23 Len was just charming and that's how I remember him even at 12 years old.
00:30 He's been in my life since the very beginning.
00:35 To me, he was just like Len, my mom's friend and dance teacher.
00:40 He was very well respected within the board community.
00:44 He was a big time judge when we were all starting to compete.
00:48 Dancing in front of Len was always very intimidating.
00:52 It's an honor that I can say Len judged me.
00:55 Len went from sort of the small ballroom world catapulted into television.
01:02 What a fabulous way to start this off.
01:07 I knew Len from when I was 10 years old, so this show felt like this is home, this is family.
01:14 I'm a cup of tea in a world of lattes.
01:17 Len would not be afraid to share his mind when it wasn't strictly ballroom.
01:22 He'll lead throughout the dance, so he's disappointed.
01:25 If you weren't doing it, he'd let you know.
01:27 Derek, you know there should be body contact throughout this dance.

01:32 You were going to get the truth from Len Goodman.
01:34 Pete, hold my gaze. I want to see you in ballroom shoes. You can do it.
01:39 But he'd do it with this little twinkle and you took it, you know.

01:55 Getting criticized by Len was never easy, but getting that 10 made it all worth it.

02:29 He had so much love for the show and for all of us.
02:33 It really showed through behind the scenes.

02:38 Len was such a sweetheart. Off camera, just lovely jubbly, as he would say.

02:44 And what he kept sacred and private was his love for his wife and his family.
02:50 I played golf with him. There was no cameras. It was just he and I and we could be ourselves.
02:56 I love you, buddy. I miss you.
02:59 I miss giving him hugs and seeing how he is, and I miss him a lot.
03:07 One of the things I'm most thankful for, being able to judge alongside Len, is that
03:14 I was able to spend a little bit more extra time with him.

03:24 And for that, I'm really thankful.
