00:12 McCarthy as House speaker. The GOP have chosen Representative Mike Johnson of

00:17 Louisiana as their latest nominee for House speaker. Earlier, House Majority

00:22 Whip Tom Emmer had defeated several other GOP candidates during a series of

00:26 secret ballot votes. But a follow up tally behind closed doors showed about

00:32 26 GOP members would not support him if his name came up on the House floor. He

00:38 could only afford to lose four GOP votes. Embers swift reversal left many
