Taste Wales/Blas Cymru is a nationwide event showcasing all the food and drink Wales has to offer, with producers from around the country coming together for one event. We speak to companies who are part of the rising stars section, full of up and coming sellers, who tell us why this is event is so beneficial for them, and how Welsh produce is growing year on year.

00:00 We started in lockdown and the whole concept was we wanted to create a tea that was just
00:09 fun and a bit different but still having really good quality. So you're having a tidy cup
00:13 of tea in just some fun packaging and that was the whole idea of what we wanted to do.
00:18 But equally we wanted everything to be sustainable as well. So all our packaging is plastic free,
00:23 all our teas are sustainably sourced. So we just wanted to make sure that we were doing
00:26 the right thing for the environment and equally providing the next generation of tea lovers
00:30 with a sustainable supply.
00:32 Peachy is a new company we've launched four weeks ago. So we're completely brand new.
00:37 We make lovely nutrition tailored to the menopause. So we have a combination of whole foods and
00:45 supplemental powder, bespoke supplemental powder. So if you add a spoonful to your yoghurt
00:50 or your breakfast it can help you feel a little bit more peachy.
00:53 I watched my mum go through it and she had a horrible time so I'm looking to make some
00:57 changes now so that when I get to that point it's a bit of a better landscape and more
01:01 options for women going through menopause.
01:03 We want to help women feel a little bit better and offer a delicious nutrition support for
01:08 women. We've had some really good conversations today with retailers so we're hoping to see
01:13 where we can go next and grow the company.
01:16 We've come from a third generation family butchery business and we're diversifying some
01:21 of our product range. So we're taking our five core flavours a bit further than our
01:25 40 mile radius and from that the way we've decided to do it is through the Cardi B brand.
01:30 So since we've started we've changed most of our sausages from where we've been selling
01:34 it through Dewey James to the Cardi B and it's been perceived very well. It looks much
01:39 better on the shelf than what we have been previously doing so our form of packaging
01:43 and branding is a bit more on point.
01:46 And generally over the last six months we have seen an increase in sales and this has
01:51 been going good so we're going strength to strength and hopefully going up from there.
01:54 So many producers here that it pulls the buyers in and you get that buzz then and everybody
01:58 wants to talk, everybody wants to meet with people and when you do have the conversations
02:03 it's on a positive level. It's not that you're trying to break down the door to get through
02:07 to them, the door's already open. The Welsh Government have already done that for us.
02:11 So now from a supplier point, a producer point, it's great, it's brilliant. I really would
02:17 struggle I think to try and get the contacts through ourselves, it just wouldn't be possible.
02:22 Oh no it's amazing, we just wouldn't have had the opportunity so early on to meet with
02:26 so many buyers and just have that initial chat and then hopefully something exciting
02:32 can come from that. So yeah, it's really good for us.
02:35 Oh yes, well you think about we've basically taken all of Wales and condensed it into one
02:41 room so anybody who's coming here from a buyer's perspective it also makes it much easier then
02:46 because now they've got a catalogue in one place and the fact that it's organised meetings
02:51 and the way they've put the place together, this event, fantastic. I mean you only need
02:54 to look around and see the great products Wales make and from that you can tell that
02:58 whoever's coming here is going to benefit whether they're buying or selling.
