Rebecca Sayers from RLS Fancy Dress in Pudsey discusses this year’s Halloween trends and what it’s like to run a costume shop at this time of year.

00:00 I'm Rebecca Sayers and I'm the owner and founder of RLS Fancy Dress in Pudsey.

00:05 There's lots of effort and hard work that goes into the run up to Halloween,

00:09 obviously ordering all the stock and trying to make sure you've got a good variety

00:14 of costumes, props, accessories to go with all the costumes that people might want.

00:20 It's hard because it's quite small in here but I think I've done quite well to fit in what I have.

00:26 I had somebody come in yesterday who said that they would love to work in here and that all

00:31 day long they would be trying costumes on and trying masks on and the answer is no.

00:37 When you're in here all day and you're seeing the costumes and everybody else has got the fun

00:43 to try them on, you do go home in the evening and think oh yeah I'll relax now but as soon as you're

00:50 back the next day you're back on it and back in the zone. This year quite a lot of the older films

00:56 have come back around so for example Saw, Exorcist, Ghostbusters, so those kind of costumes are popular

01:03 again this time of year and Wednesday Addams I would have to say after the hit Netflix series

01:11 she's very popular so we stock the older traditional costume and the new ones where

01:17 she's at her prom and where she's in her school uniform so that's another really popular one.

01:42 Wow. Not everybody wants to dress up scary for Halloween so I do keep a selection of general

01:49 costumes as well so last year I remember people wanted to be nurses or army or police so we do

01:56 still have those out and we have some silly costumes as well for the students, watermelons,

02:03 pints of beer, pool tables etc. It's good having a fancy dress on the high street rather than

02:09 purchasing online because then you can actually come in you can try the costumes on and you can

02:14 get a feel for for how they are and what they're going to look like and then if you don't like it

02:19 choose something else whereas you don't always have that option online. The support that I've

02:22 had from my local customers and my regular customers has been fantastic and they always

02:29 tell me that they come here first before trying anywhere else and always try to use me or any

02:36 local business before shopping online as it's good to have variety on the high street you'd

02:41 rather see shops full than shops empty and the local people want to make their area bustling

02:47 and hustling and bring more people to the area and business and custom. I'm really thankful for

02:52 the support that the local people give to me and I really appreciate them coming in and helping to

02:58 support my local business and I wish everybody has a happy Halloween.
