00:00 There appears to be no end in sight yet to the violence between Palestinian militant
00:05 group Hamas and Israel, and Filipinos are split between the two sides.
00:10 Both Israeli and Palestinian supporters took to the streets in the Philippines to show
00:14 solidarity.
00:16 On Sunday, more than a hundred people joined a mothercade and a program in Quezon City
00:21 backing Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza.
00:25 Supporters blew their shofars and lit candles to mourn the dead.
00:28 "We will see a record of Israel from time immemorial.
00:31 We will see a record of what they are doing not only in their country but in the whole
00:37 world.
00:38 The Palestinians, what we get from them, nothing.
00:41 It's all chaos."
00:43 "Such solidarity between the nation is most important, especially within this struggle
00:50 against pure evil, where there is no good side or bad side."
00:55 But the secretary-general of the Philippines' Palestine Friendship Association says the
01:00 Palestinian people are the ones who've suffered under Israel's occupation.
01:05 The group calls for the return of Palestinian lands.
01:08 "We are for peace amongst all peoples, Palestinians and even Israelis.
01:17 But in this situation, the injustice is experienced by the Palestinians.
01:36 So we are for the end of the occupation."
01:53 Last Saturday, the group held demonstrations to raise public awareness on the issue.
01:58 The conflict between Israel and Palestine started in 1948, when Israel was established
02:03 as a state and Jews were given lands where Palestinians also reside.
02:07 A two-state solution was forged in the hopes of ending tensions.
02:12 But the plan failed as both sides claimed cultural and historic rights to certain areas
02:17 like Jerusalem.
02:18 The past year saw Israel forcefully occupying more lands in Palestinian territory.
02:24 Palestinian militants in other Arab countries launched attacks in retaliation.
02:29 Israel had clarified its recent offensives in Gaza are not against the Palestinian people,
02:34 but solely on Hamas after it attacked Israeli communities on October 7, killing over a thousand
02:40 unarmed men, women and children.
02:43 As Hamas is allegedly embedded in civilian communities, Israel's retaliation has also
02:48 caused thousands of civilian casualties.
