Marvel Movies Reboot Announcement Breakdown and Recasting Explained
Transcript
00:00 Welcome back everyone is Charlie a lot of you been asking me about this marvel reboot
00:18 news going around the past week there been a lot of rumors in my own personal opinion
00:22 that Kevin Feige would do a soft reboot with avengers secret wars.
00:25 But now we actually have some information straight from the horses mouth like Kevin
00:29 Feige himself talking about rebooting the MCU whatever we do will be quite different
00:34 than what's been done so will explain what's going on what that's going to look like it
00:38 will be quite the same thing the James Gunn is doing in the DC universe, but it's still
00:42 like it will be quite as hard of a reboot is James Gunn is doing if you're brand-new
00:46 to the channel be sure to subscribe to get all the videos were doing the giveaway for
00:49 Loki blu-rays all you have to do to enter is be a subscriber and let me know how you
00:53 want them to change the MCU with this reboot like what about it do you want them to change
00:58 most of us assume that at some point the MCU would go on for so long it would create so
01:02 many headaches behind the scenes of become so top-heavy for marvel and for new viewers
01:07 there just be so many movies so much backstory and lore that the MCU would feel kind of like
01:11 one piece.
01:12 For example, one piece has more than 25 years way over 1000 chapters now over 1000 episodes
01:18 and many many movies in there it becomes so daunting for new viewers like where do I actually
01:23 start how do I figure this out that it almost starts to feel like homework which turns off.
01:28 A lot of new viewers it would just make more sense for Kevin Feige to start fresh with
01:32 a soft reboot.
01:34 Currently Spider-Man's probably the best record holder for reboots the character Tobey Maguire
01:38 was the main Spider-Man as recently as 2007 in Spider-Man 3 then Andrew Garfield as soon
01:43 as amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 now it's Tom Holland eventually they will have to reboot
01:48 with another version the character to his credit Tom Holland does seem like he's going
01:52 to stick around for like the next choice Spider-Man 4 Spider-Man 5 Spider-Man 6 was just like
01:56 almost another 10 years of Spider-Man.
01:58 But if you were a little kid when Iron Man one came out in theaters you followed all
02:02 the MCU movies up to this point and you graduated from college now and you have a real job.
02:06 Maybe some of you also have your own children now and now you started taking them to Marvel
02:10 movies like all I started watching them when I was a little kid now I'm taking my little
02:14 kid to these movies all of you have some experience with some kind of reboot is nothing new like
02:19 not a brand-new concept more like par for the course Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Patrick
02:23 Stewart's Professor X the classic X-Men coming back in Deadpool 3 and secret wars are exceptions
02:29 to that rule not the standard normally people get recast way more frequently the whole phenomenon
02:35 of the multiverse movies were old actors come back like Spider-Man no way home in the flash
02:39 movie for instance with Michael Keaton's Batman coming back in mass in all these different
02:43 franchises is a relatively new thing the actual quote where Kevin Feige is talking about rebooting
02:49 the MCU comes from an interviewer that interviewed him during the 10 year anniversary for Marvel.
02:53 So this is Kevin Feige planning on doing a reboot actually quite a while ago like before
02:57 Avengers endgame came out this is secret wars will serve as a soft reboot where they can
03:02 prune everything that's not working and just keep what is working or bring back people
03:07 you thought were gone forever.
03:09 That's basically saying that he's going to recast some of the main characters, not just
03:13 the X-Men the fantastic four we knew that that was going to happen because of doing
03:16 new versions of those movies that they just announced the brand-new X-Men movie to be
03:19 releasing the new fantastic four movie in 2025, but also recasting some of the major
03:24 characters that they killed off in like Avengers endgame or people who died in real life and
03:28 you thought that their characters were gone forever.
03:31 Then recently when Kevin Feige was doing an interview for the Marvels movie.
03:33 He also said the great thing about Marvel truly is how many wonderful interesting characters
03:38 we have in the comics they been at it for 85 years even after 32 movies.
03:43 It feels like we barely scratched the surface their way way over 1000 characters.
03:48 For example, Sony because they own the rights to Spider-Man basically have over 900 characters
03:53 just as part of the Spider-Man rights that's just one corner of the Marvel universe that
03:58 quote is also Kevin Feige teasing a bunch of story concepts for types of movies that
04:02 they haven't really done a lot with before I'll get into that in a second because a lot
04:05 of that stuff gets into what they're doing in Marvel phase 7 and beyond after secret
04:09 wars but like the notion that Kevin Feige is can act kind of like he who remains on
04:13 Loki the Marvel powers that be that are making all these movies are acting like the real
04:17 TVA pruning everything that they feel like has not worked that they've done in the Marvel
04:22 universe already like some of the Marvel TV series that just haven't worked out some of
04:26 the Marvel movies they felt like haven't worked out things about the characters backstories
04:29 that just don't make sense now with all the new stuff they're introducing and recasting
04:33 some of their major major characters that they can't use right now because they sunsetted
04:39 quote of quote the characters with Avengers endgame or the actors passed away in real
04:43 life.
04:44 So here's we get to that MCU reboot Kevin Feige is using secret wars to give all the
04:49 legacy Marvel Fox actors their own version of Avengers endgame that they never really
04:53 got the chance to have when Fox was still making the Marvel movies, but also throwing
04:56 in Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Andrew Garfield Spider-Man who still Sony characters because
05:01 he always wanted to have big Avengers movies with for is Tobey Maguire Spider-Man that
05:06 was what the whole deleted scene from the first Iron Man post credit scene was about
05:09 like he was trying to say that the X-Men and Spider-Man characters all existed in the
05:14 same earth as the Avengers as if gamma accidents radioactive bug bites and assorted mutants
05:20 weren't enough.
05:23 I have to deal with a spoiled brat doesn't play well with others and wants to keep all
05:27 his toys to himself.
05:28 The value make fury too bad the lawyers got in the way of that actually happening, but
05:35 they got in this whole notion of bringing back the legacy characters giving them their
05:38 own Avengers type of movie Spider-Man no way home is really good example of a test run
05:42 of them bringing back legacy actors like they brought them back to see how the audience
05:46 would respond to that.
05:47 Now we know in retrospect everybody loved it the bring them back in a bigger way during
05:51 Avengers secret wars Deadpool three is going to be like the Spider-Man no way home for
05:55 the classic X-Men actors also kind of a test run to see how everyone response to them coming
06:00 back if it does go well.
06:01 It seems like it will you see more than come back during secret wars Hugh Jackman's Wolverine
06:06 was always going to come back for secret wars though and he actually called this giant crossover
06:11 of all the characters really early on when they were making the second Wolverine movie
06:16 I literally asked the same question other day to Tom who's from Marvel who works with
06:21 all the other studios he works with Sony and Fox that's his job to the eyes of seven can
06:26 this happen and he goes look it's not gonna be easy because you work with different studios
06:29 and their properties that I believe maybe I'm optimistic I understand a model that got
06:35 Avengers that got a lot of big things going on, but at some point I just find it almost
06:39 impossibly is not a way to bring Iron Man all the Avengers characters you know Wolverine
06:46 the X-Men characters Spider-Man and somehow get them in together the guy that he's talking
06:51 about inside Marvel who is telling him about this like look we could probably do this,
06:55 but it's gonna be kind of hard there all these lawyers that are gonna get in the way that
06:57 was Kevin Feige that's why earlier this year when they release that Deadpool three teaser
07:02 trailer they thanked Kevin Feige like thank you very much Kevin Feige you Kevin Feige
07:07 love you Kevin Feige thank you MCU speaking of Wolverine specifically this also why Kevin
07:12 Feige revealed that Wolverine will not be in that new rebooted X-Men movie they just
07:17 announced that'll feature all new recast actors playing the main characters and Hugh Jackman
07:21 will still be the main version of Wolverine through secret wars.
07:25 There lot of people that are calling this new rebooted version of the MCU that Kevin
07:29 Feige will create the ultimate MCU universe like Kevin Feige doing his version of the
07:33 Marvel comic book ultimate universe start fresh and then also call it a completely different
07:39 universe that you can leave all these legacy MCU movies in a separate universe.
07:43 So all those characters still technically exist and can come back if they want to bring
07:47 them back the whole idea with the ultimate universe is that the Marvel comic book people
07:50 felt like there was so much comic book continuity to keep track of it was turning off a lot
07:55 of potential new readers like it gone full one piece basically so they created the ultimate
07:59 universe is like a completely separate universe giving all the characters brand-new back story
08:03 starting from issue number ones.
08:05 So that like new viewers could walk in on day one and read any the comics without understanding
08:09 who the characters were Kevin Feige the Marvel powers that be are just getting worried that
08:13 the same thing is starting to happen with the Marvel movies pretty much everybody in
08:17 any cinematic universe usually just does a complete reboot every 20 years or so sometimes
08:22 more frequently than that.
08:24 If you're Spider-Man for example Warner brothers is now rebooting Harry Potter.
08:28 It hasn't been that long since the original Harry Potter movies pretty much everything
08:32 gets rebooted in some fashion at some point is is that it's the first time for it to happen
08:36 to the MCU because 2008 with Iron Man one doesn't feel like that long ago, but by the
08:42 time we get past secret wars it will have been about 20 years in right now very apropos
08:47 it's also happening to DC movies James Gunn is rebooting all those the major difference
08:51 though between James Gunn's DC movie reboot in the MCU reboot is the MCU reboot is more
08:56 of a soft reboot James Gunn's recasting like almost 98% of all those characters Kevin Feige
09:02 is only gonna be recasting maybe like 20-25% of the characters maybe even less than that
09:07 remember the quote that the interview got from him about bring back dead characters
09:11 characters you never thought that you'd see again that means new versions of Iron Man
09:14 Black Panther the X-Men fantastic four some of those we already knew about, but not many
09:19 people had actually thought about them recasting Iron Man.
09:22 For example, one of the other major goals of this soft reboot after secret wars is saying,
09:26 that in the new backstory of this rebooted MCU whatever you want to call ultimate MCU
09:31 will be that all these different types of characters from the comics all existed in
09:35 the same universe on the same earth this whole time.
09:39 So this new version of the MCU will feel more like the traditional 616 comic book universe
09:44 where everybody's always existed in the same universe the probably use this reboot to make
09:48 the MCU the true 616 universe like it will look truly like the comic book 616 universe
09:55 and the to say that Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man the fantastic for all the other legacy
09:58 actors still exist there just from other universes.
10:02 So like the original MCU will just exist in another universe.
10:06 What do you want them to do with the new version of Iron Man since Robert Downey Jr's Iron
10:11 Man is so iconic and basically the foundation of the MCU like they would never studio now
10:15 today if it were for Iron Man one who do you want to play that character were probably
10:20 not can I see that new version of Iron Man for a good long while like currently secret
10:24 wars is supposed to release in 2027 that might get delayed again and they might turn it into
10:28 two different movies.
10:30 So it's totally possible we don't see the new version of Iron Man until like 2029 or
10:34 a little bit later and that'll be a little over 20 years since Iron Man one debuted which
10:38 sounds pretty reasonable.
