00:03 - All right, let's get to the very latest
00:05 in the shift in pendulum between FanDuel and DraftKings.
00:09 We'll start off with the state of Massachusetts,
00:12 and it does appear at least for the time being
00:14 that the winner, Jim, as you so elegantly put out there
00:18 on X/Twitter is DraftKings in the month of September.
00:22 - Yeah, so DraftKings has been number one in Massachusetts
00:27 since their online market opened up back in March.
00:32 So that headline isn't really all that new.
00:36 What's new is just kind of how much of a lead
00:41 that DraftKings has grown in its home state
00:45 over its rival FanDuel.
00:48 So 58% of the online handle market went to DraftKings.
00:54 That's their most highest share ever in a single month.
00:59 Over $290 million was bet online
01:03 through the DraftKings app in Massachusetts in September.
01:07 Obviously, most likely due to the return of the NFL.
01:12 That 290 plus million figure is DraftKings highest ever
01:17 single month handle in Massachusetts.
01:21 Now, granted the market isn't terribly old, right?
01:25 It was just the seventh month
01:28 of online wagering in Massachusetts,
01:31 but that lead that DraftKings has had right out of the gate
01:36 is seemingly growing 58% of the market to DraftKings,
01:41 like I said, and FanDuel's market share of handle
01:46 in September was right around 25%.
01:50 So those two obviously combining for the most,
01:53 but that lead DraftKings has built over FanDuel
01:58 in the last couple of months in September,
02:01 the widest gap between those two.
02:03 A couple other interesting notes coming out of Massachusetts
02:06 from September, Barstool, as we know,
02:09 they are on their way out.
02:13 Penn is rebranding to ESPN bet at some point
02:17 in the next couple of weeks, mid-November.
02:19 Is what we've been told at Legal Sports Report.
02:24 So an interesting bit on Barstool,
02:27 we did see that their online handle dropped
02:32 from August to September, which is a bit odd, right?
02:35 The NFL coming back is always big business
02:39 for the online sports books.
02:43 And you very rarely see an app lose handle
02:48 from August to September.
02:49 So I know we talked a couple of weeks ago, Craig,
02:53 where the Massachusetts state gaming regulators
02:57 were questioning Penn about their branding of Barstool
03:02 and their ties to Barstool now that they're transitioning
03:05 over to ESPN bet.
03:06 And I think this really highlights
03:08 what some Penn executives said a few weeks ago
03:12 that they are no longer actively promoting
03:15 or marketing the Barstool brand.
03:17 So a decline in handle from August to September
03:22 for Barstool, most likely due to that lack of marketing.
03:27 Fanatics, like we've talked about in other markets,
03:31 Massachusetts in September was their first full month
03:35 of operations where they were open to all customers.
03:37 And much like we saw in Maryland and Ohio
03:40 in recent months for Fanatics,
03:43 their handle spiked there a bit too.
03:46 Approaching $9 million for the month.
03:49 So, you know, positive trend for them.
03:53 One last bid on Massachusetts overall,
03:56 $512 million in sports bets in September.
04:01 It's the third month that Massachusetts sports bettors
04:05 have put down $500 million or more
04:09 since that market opened in March.
04:11 So seven months in, things looking pretty strong.
04:16 As, you know, of course, NFL returns
04:19 and, you know, three months to over $500 million
04:23 in bets is pretty promising for Massachusetts.
