The world's most famous locomotive, Flying Scotsman will be back in the National Railway Museum, this time on the turntable in Great Hall for a 360-degree view!

This is the final chance to see Flying Scotsman at the museum during its extra-special centenary year. Enjoy our 100 Years, 100 Voices exhibition which explores the human side of the locomotive’s legacy.

The Yorkshire Post photogrpaher, Tony Johnson, is there to watch as the Flying Scotsman is loaded onto the turntable.

00:29 My name's Amy Harbour and I've been organizing the centenary Flying Scotsman.
00:33 Flying Scotsman is the world's most famous locomotive, and
00:38 it was built in Yorkshire in Doncaster in 1923.
00:42 Since February 2023, we at the National Railway Museum have been celebrating
00:47 with Flying Scotsman all across the UK, 100 years of this iconic locomotive.
00:53 The locomotive has been to Scotland, Wales, England,
00:56 both heritage railways and been out on the tracks.
01:00 Many people have been out to see this locomotive this year.
01:02 It's just so famous.
01:05 But now, October half term, the locomotive Flying Scotsman is back in York.
01:11 It's back at the National Railway Museum for you to come and visit her.
01:15 So this morning, the workshop team has moved Flying Scotsman from outside.
01:20 Flying Scotsman arrived with us at the weekend after its latest excursion
01:24 out on the tracks.
01:26 The locomotive has been gently cooling down, had a little zhuzh,
01:31 a little polish, a little clean, and ready to be moved in this morning
01:36 to go on the turntable for display.
