Ex-convict Stephen Jackley has lifted the lid on conditions inside UK prisons including HMP Standford Hill where he served the last part of a six-and-half years jail time for armed robbery.

00:00 I even had like a kind of hell scale prisons, like they were like hell level nine and then level one was open prison.
00:08 But, yeah, it was so different. And I was like, you could walk around freely outside.
00:13 And that's something that apart from Alden Grange, all the other closed prisons didn't have.
00:17 But, you know, more or less all day you could do activities.
00:22 There wasn't any bars on the window.
00:25 You know, it's kind of like, I don't know how to compare it, but like kind of like a hostel, I guess.
00:31 But obviously it was still a prison and you're still subject to lots of restrictions and you can just wander out.
00:38 And things like using the Internet, for example, you couldn't do. But, yeah, very, very different from closed conditions.
