00:00 I lost half of me. We were one. I lost half of me. Like that.
00:07 Alan and I had a very romantic relationship. It was always so incredibly passionate.
00:14 She fought and fought and fought.
00:17 What were her final words?
00:19 She wasn't talking at the end. The last couple of days she stopped eating, stopped talking, wouldn't take her medicine.
00:27 And we didn't know if she was alive or not.
00:32 And I kept taking her blood pressure, but she wouldn't respond.
00:35 And then when I kissed her, she responded, kissing me back.
00:42 And it looked like she was going to make it. And then it just overwhelmed her.
00:47 We knew this day would come, but we thought it would be me.
00:50 Because I'm 10 years older than Suzanne.
00:53 I do everything Dr. Summers tells me to do. For the past 42 years, we have not spent even one hour apart.
01:01 They were like this. They were inseparable.
01:05 And I joke that they were functionally codependent because there's not many people, you know, people say,
01:12 "Oh, I could never spend that much time with my mate." And they never got tired of each other.
01:17 How are you two doing today? How are you doing?
01:19 Well, I go in and out. I think there was a plan, make sure he's not alone. And I love that.
01:28 I think yesterday we were in a bubble and it was special to all be together.
01:33 While Suzanne projected an image of health and perfection, in reality, she was often struggling.
01:39 She had cancer every decade from her 20s. She started with a couple of hyperplasias on her uterus.
01:46 Then in the 30s, she had a tumor removed from her back. In her 40s, she lost her uterus.
01:51 In her 50s, she had a lumpectomy on her right breast.
01:54 For one minute, I entertained the idea of I could die. I had a big tumor. I could die.
02:01 In her 60s, she had a cancer in her left breast that she healed herself.
02:05 And then in her 70s, she fell down, broke her neck and had hydrocephalus.
02:10 It's called water on the brain. It's quite dangerous. So she's had cancer all her life.
02:15 Alan and Bruce also showed me the cake they got for Suzanne's birthday.
02:19 She would have turned 77 yesterday.
02:22 It's kind of a secret. People don't know. My mother had a healthy appetite.
02:27 Suzanne loved cake. Loved cake.
02:30 We would go to weddings and we'd get there and I'd say, "How well do you know these people?"
02:36 Because I'd never heard of them. She said, "I've only met them once."
02:39 I'd say, "She was there for the cake. I'm not kidding."
02:42 It's true.
