00:00 We will also discuss the long supply of petroleum products and skills training for the thousands of Filipino workers.
00:08 These are some of the topics discussed during President Bongbong Marcos' visit to Saudi Arabia.
00:13 The President also invited the Saudi businessmen to the Maharlika Investment Fund, which is spreading interest.
00:20 Live from Saudi Arabia, we have first news with JP Soriano. JP.
00:28 Igan, good morning to all of you.
00:31 We are here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where we are now.
00:36 It's only 2 o'clock in the morning, and President Bongbong Marcos' schedule will be busy today
00:43 for his first ASEAN-GCC Summit.
00:46 But last night, when he was visiting a business forum in front of the leaders of Saudi Arabia,
00:52 Saudi Arabia announced that they are interested in investing in the Maharlika Investment Fund.
00:58 After President Marcos clarified that the Maharlika Investment Fund is not suspended,
01:07 the President invited it to the Arab business leaders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
01:13 He helped the businessmen in a roundtable meeting with the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia
01:20 before the first ASEAN-GCC Summit.
01:24 At the forefront of these opportunities is the recently launched Maharlika Investment Fund,
01:30 the Philippines' first-ever sovereign investment fund designed to drive long-term economic development
01:37 through increased investments in high-impact sectors.
01:41 Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno also encouraged the Arab business leaders
01:47 to invest in the Maharlika Investment Fund.
01:50 According to Diokno, because there are many Filipinos in Islam,
01:54 the potential of an Islamic banking is great.
01:58 The Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia replied that they are interested.
02:03 We are joined by leaders in the sector from Saudi Arabia who are eager to hear more
02:10 about the investment opportunities in one of ASEAN's most exciting markets
02:16 and learn more about the newly launched Maharlika Investment Fund
02:22 that you have launched under your administration.
02:26 But while there is still no guarantee if the businessmen in Saudi Arabia will really invest in the Maharlika Investment Fund,
02:34 one of the largest companies in the world, Saudi Aramco,
02:39 is already negotiating with their partners in the Philippines for a possible long-term supply of oil
02:46 and other petroleum products in the country.
02:49 If the opportunity arises, the large gas stations that sell petroleum products in the Philippines
02:56 will increase in price, which could have an effect on the price of petroleum products in the market.
03:02 We are actively in discussion with a number of partners in the Philippines
03:06 for long-term supply arrangements.
03:09 And if we're lucky, God willing, we will have one day an Aramco gas station or Aramco lubricants
03:17 being sold directly to consumers in the Philippines.
03:21 In the field of work for Filipino workers in Saudi,
03:25 it is expected that the demand of Saudi will increase for Filipino healthcare workers and other skilled workers.
03:32 One of the proofs that Saudi is serious in hiring more Filipino workers
03:38 is the signing of a deal between the Philippines and Saudi for a wider skills training
03:44 for Filipino workers in the leadership of some private companies.
03:50 With an estimated value of over US$120 million,
03:55 the agreements that will be signed today are set to benefit more than 15,000 Filipinos
04:02 in training and employment opportunities across a wide range of professions in the construction industry.
04:09 The possibility of investing US$1 billion in the field of maritime and trade logistics in the coming years is also increasing.
04:21 We are confident that more Saudi investors will be investing in the Philippines.
04:28 President Marcos also visited Riyadh.
04:31 Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz is the deputy governor of Riyadh.
04:41 President Marcos also visited the same business forum and said that the GDP of the Philippines is increasing by 7.6%.
04:51 He said that the momentum of investing in the Philippines is good.
04:55 President Marcos and other Asian leaders are also discussing various regional issues
05:05 that are affecting the whole world, like what's happening in Israel and Gaza.
05:11 That is the latest from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Back to you Egan.
05:16 Thank you very much JP Soriano.
