Sammy Wilson and Rishi Sunak on Palestine protest in Belfast
Transcript
00:00 >>Samuel Wolfson (East Lothian) (Lab) The Israeli Government have the right, and
00:04 indeed the duty, to protect their civilians against these bloody terrorist attacks. We
00:10 wish the Prime Minister well in his advice and guidance to the Israeli Government to
00:16 achieve the aims that they need to achieve in protecting their citizens.
00:22 The Prime Minister's statement indicated that we would not tolerate the glorification of
00:30 terror, and that it would be met by the full force of the law. Will he therefore join my
00:34 condemnation of the Irish language school in West Belfast, where students had pro-Palestinian
00:45 demonstrations this week? They were facilitated within the school. Does he agree that schools
00:50 should be places where pupils are taught that it is morally wrong to support terrorism and
00:55 that they should not facilitate such demonstrations?
00:57 >>The Prime Minister I thank the hon. Gentleman for his remarks.
01:04 Without knowing the details of the incident, he describes that it is right that schools
01:09 should not be a place where this malicious activity is happening. We are absolutely clear
01:15 that under the Terrorism Act 2000 and 2006, it is an offence to encourage terrorism, and
01:22 it is also a range of offences to glorify and support groups that have been prescribed
01:27 as terrorist organisations under UK law. The police will use all the tools at their disposal
01:33 to stamp that out and arrest those who perpetrate those acts.
01:37 >>Colin Burns (Bournemouth) (Con) One of the many things that Bournemouth is
01:42 known for is its large Jewish community. Indeed, our first citizen and mayor, Councillor Anne
01:49 Feiler, is herself Jewish. Those people in my constituency will have heard and drawn
01:57 comfort from the calm and measured words not just of the Prime Minister but of the right
02:02 hon. Gentleman, the Leader of the Opposition, this afternoon. What we have seen is not just
02:09 an attack on the territorial integrity of Israel; what we have seen is an attack on
02:16 Jews and those of the Jewish faith. Will my right hon. Friend join everyone else of good
02:22 will in this House to make clear not just this week, last week, this month and next
02:27 month but always that anti-Semitism has no place in our society?
02:32 >>The Prime Minister I agree with my right hon. Friend. What this
02:37 was was an attack on Jews, and we should call it out for what it was. That is what Hamas
02:42 believes and that is what Hamas has tried to do. They will meet firm resistance from
02:46 us, and we will not tolerate anti-Semitism in any form on our streets—not just today,
02:51 not just tomorrow, but always.
