00:00 Loki is the first Marvel Disney+ show to get a second season, and the trailer for it is
00:05 full of exciting but quick details.
00:07 Here's what's really going on with the God of Mischief's newest adventure.
00:11 In absolutely no time at all, the trailer for Loki season 2 puts its best and most exciting
00:16 addition to the cast front and center.
00:18 "We have a little bit of a situation we wanted to run by you."
00:22 "Tobias!
00:23 Wow!
00:24 Great to see you again!"
00:27 That's right, Kee Hwee Kwan, star of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Goonies,
00:32 and Everything Everywhere All at Once, has joined the MCU.
00:35 Details were murky when the casting was first announced, but it's since been made clear
00:39 that the Oscar-winning actor is playing a TVA agent named Obi, working out of the repairs
00:44 and advancement department.
00:45 After playing several different versions of himself in the similarly multiverse-themed
00:49 Everything Everywhere All at Once in 2022, it's easy to see why Marvel would want to
00:54 strike while the iron is hot.
00:56 A strange phenomenon has started affecting the God of Mischief, and it looks pretty painful.
01:01 Loki is unpredictably slipping through time, something that shouldn't be possible within
01:05 the confines of the TVA.
01:06 It's clear that this is going to lead to some supernatural shenanigans, but it seems that
01:10 we're going to have to wait to find out exactly why this is happening.
01:14 Is this a nasty side effect of Loki and Sylvie breaking the sacred timeline in the season
01:18 1 finale by killing he who remains?
01:20 Is this the MCU's version of the multiverse glitching featured in Sony's Spider-Verse
01:25 movies, or is it something else entirely?
01:27 The biggest consequence of time-slipping isn't its odd body-distorting effect.
01:31 It's taking Loki from the present to the past and back again, as hinted at when Loki is
01:35 thrown back into what appears to be a scene from season 1.
01:39 Left unchecked, this volatile time travel could potentially cause even more incursions
01:43 in the timeline, like the one shown in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
01:47 Needless to say, it's a big problem, but even that issue might pale in comparison to the
01:52 encroaching threat of a major villain.
01:54 Is a god of mischief to a conqueror of worlds?
01:57 Loki season 1 left audiences on the cliffhanger that, as a result of Sylvie killing the mysterious
02:02 Kang variant known as he who remains and throwing the multiverse into chaos, the fabric of reality
02:08 itself has changed for the worse.
02:10 In the TVA, a massive statue of Kang the Conqueror has come out of nowhere to replace that of
02:15 the Time Keepers, the god-like beings that the TVA previously thought to be in charge
02:19 of everything.
02:20 Season 1 revealed that these were nothing more than androids, of course, but Kang obviously
02:25 poses a much greater threat.
02:26 Here, Loki revisits that moment when he stabs a mural depicting the Time Keepers, complete
02:31 with one of the decapitated android heads lying in the foreground, cut off by Sylvie
02:35 in episode 4.
02:37 More Kang statues are revealed, further hinting at the Conqueror's impending arrival.
02:42 Some of the best moments of Loki season 1 came when Mobius recruited Loki into hunting
02:46 down one of his own troublemaking variants, which turned out to be Sylvie.
02:50 Naturally, it seems like season 2 will try to recreate that time-traveling gimmick by
02:54 having Loki and Mobius travel back in time to a very specific and intriguing moment in
02:59 history.
03:00 The two find themselves at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and the Midway Plaisance, filled
03:05 with shops, attractions, and rides.
03:07 It doesn't seem that the time spent here is going to be very quiet, as the trailer features
03:11 a glimpse of magical combat by the steps of the world's first Ferris wheel.
03:15 That won't be the only point in the past we'll be visiting, though.
03:19 Another shot shows theatergoers lining up outside of a showing of a film called The
03:22 Xaniac, which itself is a reference to an obscure Thor villain from the 1980s.
03:28 Despite a crack in his helmet, Mobius embarks on a mission that likely involves a more hands-on
03:33 effort to fix the timeline.
03:35 Season 1 made a big deal out of the TVA's pruning of wayward alternate universes that
03:39 cause further instability, so it's possible that the glowing object he's approaching is
03:43 a more literal representation of the timeline splitting apart.
03:46 Whether or not that's actually the case, strange things are clearly afoot at the TVA.
03:51 The place is falling to pieces, and it's likely that only Loki and Sylvie are the ones who
03:56 can stop it.
03:57 They won't be alone, though.
03:58 A returning Judge Ravonna Renslayer appears hefting a gnarly-looking energy weapon.
04:03 Last we saw of her, she was on a mission to find "free will" after her faith in the TVA
04:08 was shaken.
04:09 After providing a glimpse of the Council of Kangs, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Quantumania,
04:14 teases the return of Loki and Mobius at the World's Fair.
04:17 As they attend an attraction hosted by a man called Victor Timely, Loki recognizes the
04:21 eccentric scientist as the man that he met at the end of time.
04:25 "It's him."
04:26 "What?
04:27 You made him sound like this terrifying figure."
04:30 "He is."
04:33 Victor Timely makes a return in the trailer for Loki season 2, unleashing lightning powers
04:38 and causing havoc.
04:39 Jonathan Majors, who plays Kang, is currently dealing with multiple allegations of misconduct,
04:44 domestic violence, and abuse.
04:46 This has put Marvel in a real bind, considering that Kang stands to play a Thanos-level role
04:51 for the rest of the multiverse saga.
04:53 The trailer avoids any real look at Kang for as long as it can, but it's difficult to imagine
04:58 that the actor won't play a significant role in the season.
05:01 While Loki completed filming too early for any major restructuring to be possible, it
05:05 remains to be seen how Marvel makes the hard choice of addressing Majors' presence moving
05:10 forward.
05:11 It remains unclear how exactly all the various loose threads teased in the initial trailer
05:15 come together, but one thing seems obvious.
05:18 Nothing good has come out of Loki and Sylvie meddling with the timeline.
05:22 From a massive ghostly version of Ms. Minutes attacking the World's Fair to the possible
05:26 destruction of the entire TVA, there are all sorts of exciting developments to come in
05:30 the new season of Loki.
05:32 Whatever Marvel has in store, things will never be the same.
05:35 "A little over the top, don't you think?"
05:38 "I thought it was spot on."
05:40 Loki Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on October 6th, 2023.
