00:00 The experts and scientists are working together to form a solution to the current shortage of rice
00:08 in the beginning of the 6th International Rice Congress led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:16 This is Kenneth Paciente's report.
00:18 In order to strengthen the production of rice, the 6th International Rice Congress is being held in the country.
00:28 They are discussing different ways, innovation and scientific ways to have a high quality of rice.
00:35 The experts and scientists are working together to form an evidence-based solution to their big challenge in the global rice sector.
00:44 According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., this activity is being held to exchange ideas and policies
00:52 to strengthen the global rice value chains and to build new technologies.
00:57 The discoveries in this Congress will pave the way for greater strides in the rice industry in the Philippines and across the globe.
01:05 I look forward to seeing the innovations to be discussed in this Congress come to life, including the ultra-low GI rice, in the near future.
01:15 With every grain that we harvest, process and consume, we gain the strength and nourishment that we need
01:22 to continuously drive our lives, families and nations forward.
01:27 President Marcos Jr. also pointed out the challenges that the Philippines faces in terms of rice supply and price.
01:34 That is why he will not stop the government from advancing this in a comprehensive way and based on science.
01:41 Aside from investing in research and acquiring machinery to give to our farmers,
01:45 we try to provide them with more support through our national rice program and the Rice Competitive Enhancement Fund.
01:53 This includes our rice farmers' financial assistance.
01:57 We have also been working together with international institutions like the IRI and foreign governments,
02:04 not only to ensure the steady supply of rice, but also to enhance the development and sharing of crucial technologies and strategies.
02:14 He will also continue to urge the government to focus on the production of agricultural products and he is confident that these will be met.
02:23 It goes without saying, but I think it bears repeating, that rice in our countries means more than food.
02:31 Rice in Asia, rice in the countries where it is a staple, is in fact life.
02:40 And whenever we find ourselves in a situation where the supply of rice is threatened,
02:50 this is almost an existential problem that ordinary people feel.
02:56 So as I end, let me assure and challenge you in this way.
03:01 We will spare no effort to ensure the growth of the rice industry here in our country,
03:07 even as we safeguard the welfare of farmers and consumers alike.
03:11 The International Rice Congress will last until Thursday.
03:15 Kenneth Paciente, for the nation.
03:18 IAN.
