00:00 All right, you guys received your instructions
00:01 in the dressing room.
00:02 (speaking in foreign language)
00:06 Token Juantes, back to the corners.
00:08 - Jacques Zokidov, the 2021 Amateur World Champion,
00:16 four time Asian champion, a big six foot eight southpaw
00:21 with an 81 inch reach, and across from him,
00:24 Guillermo del Rio, five foot eight,
00:27 a one foot difference, and 73 inch reach.
00:30 So he's gonna have his work cut out for him
00:34 to say the least, Tim.
00:35 - Yeah, he's gonna have to close the distance.
00:36 You already know when you're fighting a guy
00:37 that's a lot taller than you,
00:39 you wanna go down to the body,
00:40 which is del Rios is doing now.
00:42 You wanna close that gap, close the distance,
00:45 and don't allow them to extend with those long arms.
00:48 - They told me, look, I know he's six foot eight,
00:50 but bigger guys have fallen.
00:52 What I've gotta do is change the levels,
00:54 work the body like you said, try to get inside,
00:57 but Zokidov could really just pound down on him
01:01 if he just ducks in like that, connect with an uppercut.
01:05 Looks like his ankle turned a little bit for del Rio.
01:07 There's that body work from del Rio,
01:11 but every time he gets hit, Tim,
01:13 you see him take two, three steps back.
01:15 The power of Zokidov seems to be real.
01:17 - Zokidov, the power seems to be real right now,
01:20 and you're seeing the effects already.
01:23 Del Rio, every time he gets hit,
01:25 you see the impact, just push him back.
01:27 (speaking in foreign language)
01:31 - I mean, he has to duck in,
01:35 and that's gonna put him in a vulnerable position
01:36 for those shots from Zokidov, but del Rio is game.
01:41 He's a nine year pro.
01:43 He's only had nine fights in those nine years, though, so.
01:46 And he's had a rough go in terms of opposition.
01:50 His last five opponents won 90% of their fights at 21-02,
01:54 so they're doing him no favors with the matchmaking.
01:56 - Oh, it's a wrap.
01:57 This is about over already.
01:59 I mean, del Rio, he's tough as nails,
02:02 but he's just got a big shot to the-
02:03 - There it is.
02:04 That left hook, and he hit him right in the floor.
02:05 But he wasn't down, Tim.
02:06 He was-
02:07 - Three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
02:12 (speaking in foreign language)
02:14 - Yeah, so do you wanna continue?
02:15 Says yes.
02:16 I mean, he was on the bottom rope.
02:17 He could have gotten away from not punching him,
02:20 and the referee was a little slow in stepping in.
02:24 - Allowed that last shot from Zokitov to land.
02:26 - Zokitov's gonna set him up for a rubber cut.
02:28 That's a shot he's gonna look for.
02:31 - No, del Rio is leaning down.
02:32 You see him over his front knee, over his center line.
02:35 - See, don't be-
02:36 - There it is.
02:37 That was another big left.
02:38 - Man, he's coming around that guard right there.
02:40 - Guillermo del Rio.
02:51 He's only been dropped once before against Isfahan Bernath,
02:55 who we're gonna see in Saudi Arabia
02:57 on the Tyson Fury, Francis Nganou card.
03:00 But he also lost to Sonny Conta, who took the distance.
03:03 Francisco Rivas and Darnell Pierce.
03:05 So he can take a shot,
03:08 but can he take Zokitov's punch is the question.
03:11 - Zokitov right now, he has some skills.
03:14 He does.
03:15 I like, you know, he's a softball one.
03:17 You know, he's big, has good power, good punch variation.
03:20 - See that uppercut right there.
03:22 Del Rio hopping in place.
03:24 Well, we get to hear the bell.
03:28 It'll be a moral victory for Guillermo del Rio
03:30 against Yakonvir Zokirov,
03:33 who's trained by his father,
03:34 a former amateur fighter himself,
03:37 and Joel Diaz, a man you know well,
03:39 as an assistant in the corner.
03:40 (dramatic music)
03:43 - Zokirov right here, he's just getting in the range.
03:56 Pushing shot.
03:57 You see the force from that punch right there
03:59 from Zokirov.
04:02 Not sure, didn't see the knockdown right there
04:07 or the finish.
04:10 Looked like he was up.
04:11 He looked like the actual--
04:13 - The bottom row was holding him up.
04:16 - Let's give it another shot, Tim,
04:17 so you can see the knockdown.
04:19 - There it is, and here's the follow-up.
04:20 Zokirov followed up right here.
04:22 He wasn't all the way down,
04:24 but then he clipped him right on the side of the head.
04:26 But the straight left hand right here,
04:27 you see the force of that punch
04:28 coming straight between the guards of del Rio.
04:32 Del Rio just ducking down right there,
04:34 getting hit with another shot on the side of the head
04:36 or the temple.
04:39 - Causing that knockdown.
04:40 - Zokirov, he was Joe Joyce's main sparring partner
04:44 for the Gilles Jean rematch.
04:46 You could see why, six foot eight, southpaw.
04:48 He also has sparred Flip Hergovich,
04:51 and he says, "Look, I feel comfortable
04:52 "at the elite level with those guys,
04:54 "but I feel like I just need rounds to gain experience."
04:57 And he says, "I don't believe those heavyweights
05:00 "are better than me.
05:01 "I just need to continue to work on my craft
05:03 "so I can compete with them on the pro level."
05:05 - Well, he needs to continue to work with them
05:07 in the gyms. - Yeah.
05:08 - That's how you get better,
05:09 especially in the heavyweight division.
05:11 You know, a lot of the heavyweights don't fight often.
05:13 (speaking in foreign language)
05:14 So you're gonna get a lot of your lessons learned
05:16 inside the gym sparring,
05:17 it's top-notch competition like that.
05:19 You know, you can learn the ways and wisdom
05:23 of the ones that are before you
05:23 and the ones that are in a great place
05:25 to where you wanna be in boxing.
05:27 He ran into that.
05:28 - But del Rio actually landed a shot at the same time
05:30 as Zokirov did.
05:32 - But I'm just saying, Zokirov is just, you know,
05:34 getting a little bit impatient,
05:35 rushing his stuff right now, rushing his offense.
05:38 He doesn't feel threatened at all.
05:40 He let that left hand go
05:42 and came in a little bit too close,
05:44 and you saw del Rio just extending with the right hand.
05:46 Now, if this was a bigger heavyweight with punching power,
05:50 Zokirov probably wouldn't be doing
05:52 what he's doing right now.
05:53 - He can become careless here in his pro debut
05:55 against a fighter with the physical dimensions
05:58 of Guillermo del Rio, who's 4'4" and 1" with two knockouts,
06:01 but you don't wanna develop those bad habits
06:04 as a professional.
06:05 There's already been a warning
06:07 from referee Alejandro Leon for Guillermo del Rio
06:09 for keeping his head down.
06:11 And you see Zokirov just teeing off
06:16 on the fighter out of Monterrey, Mexico.
06:18 Breathing hard, he fought just three weeks ago.
06:27 It's rare for him to get this type of level of activity
06:31 for del Rio.
06:32 Like I said, his nine opponents
06:36 have been a combined 21-0-2.
06:39 - That's wearing him out right there.
06:42 Over the back, that's a veteran tactic right there.
06:45 That's what you do when you have a guy
06:47 that gets underneath you.
06:48 You lay on his back and you force him to use his legs
06:51 and you force him to lose a lot of his energy.
06:53 And that's why you're seeing del Rio right now
06:54 is breaking down mentally, not only from the shots,
06:57 but the way he's been manhandled in his ring so far.
07:00 - 47-pound difference,
07:03 just like Fury was doing against Deontay Wilder.
07:05 - But again, Zokirov,
07:10 he gives up his height when he steps in the inside.
07:14 What happens is he comes in a little bit too high,
07:18 gets in the punching range,
07:20 he gets clipped sometimes on the way inside.
07:22 You gotta be careful not giving up his height.
07:25 - And you remember when Bruce Lee
07:29 fought Karim Abdul-Jabbar?
07:31 - Yeah.
07:32 - That's what it looks like.
07:33 (laughing)
07:36 - There's another left and a right uppercut.
07:38 That was the best right hand
07:39 that Zokirov has been able to land here
07:41 through the first two rounds,
07:42 but Guillermo del Rio, he's game to continue.
07:45 - Rios is done.
07:48 (speaking in foreign language)
07:55 - Take a look at that sequence at the end of the round
08:02 where Zokirov finally let that right uppercut go.
08:05 - Yeah, nice little step back right there from the big man.
08:08 Then following up, look at the combinations
08:10 and he was able to follow, that's called reading,
08:12 following the body, follow the head,
08:14 because wherever the head goes, the body definitely goes.
08:17 But nice little short uppercut right there
08:19 and extending also with the combination
08:21 that with the follow up.
08:22 Zokirov, he got some skills, man.
08:28 I like what I see.
08:29 He's a young guy, very talented.
08:32 Big amateur pedigree.
08:33 - Absolutely, 180 wins, 20 losses in a 200 fight career.
08:40 And not only was his father, Lazisbek Zokirov,
08:43 a great fighter in their home country of Uzbekistan,
08:47 but his sister, 18 year old Aziza,
08:50 is also an amateur boxer who won silver
08:52 at the 2022 Women's Youth Championship.
08:54 So I don't know if she's that big though, but.
08:57 She can fight.
09:00 - They all fight.
09:00 - Oh, nice left uppercut from Zokirov.
09:03 - She did a nice little step back, you know,
09:06 good footwork right there to be able to keep his range,
09:08 keep his distance, see, keeping that hand out
09:10 and just keeping control of the head right there.
09:12 Those are veteran tactics right there.
09:14 And then the side step right there.
09:16 Beautiful, beautiful hop pivot right there from Jakirov.
09:20 - Oh, nice left from Zokirov
09:22 and Del Rio taking the shots better than he did
09:24 early on in this fight.
09:26 Speaking with his team, for Zokirov,
09:29 they told me, look, really the only amateur better than him
09:33 was Zhalivov, the other giant.
09:35 - Wow.
09:36 - So they're like, it was between them two,
09:38 the top two in the world at super heavyweight
09:41 for the last few years.
09:42 Another warning from Alejandro Leon
09:46 for Guillermo Del Rio leaning down.
09:48 And you mentioned to Tim, the danger is he opens himself up
09:51 for those rabbit punches and those can be very dangerous.
09:54 - Rabbit punches.
09:57 Also those shots right there.
09:59 See on the inside, he's smothering himself
10:01 and smothering his work.
10:03 Jakirov.
10:04 - Let him go, let him go.
10:05 - He's a gizzy, just remain patient.
10:07 I mean, I know it's his first fight as a professional
10:09 and he'll go back to the drawing board.
10:12 Did you see him just club him right there
10:13 on top of the head?
10:14 - Hammer punches.
10:16 He's not MMA, but he's just physically
10:19 so much bigger than Del Rio.
10:20 - Yes, he is.
10:22 But if he starts turning him off the middle
10:23 and start going down to that body,
10:25 he'll be able to get this match stopped.
10:27 - Yeah, I think earlier on in this round, Tim,
10:30 Jakirov went to the body and that was probably apart
10:33 from the knockdown, the punch that had the most effect
10:36 on Del Rio.
10:36 - Right.
10:37 - Ooh.
10:43 - Protect yourself at all times.
10:47 - You see all that, leaning over,
10:50 leaning all on his back, draining him.
10:52 That hurts your back.
10:55 Ooh, that one-two hurts your chin.
10:56 That overhand left on the top of the forehand.
11:01 Del Rio trying to dip down and dig to the body of Jakirov.
11:07 - Jakirov likes to rumble.
11:11 He likes to rumble.
11:13 I mean, I'm not mad at him, but that can definitely
11:15 be down to his downfall, come down to his downfall
11:17 if he doesn't use his reach properly,
11:21 doesn't throw his punches at the right angle,
11:22 if he doesn't shorten his shots when he's getting close.
11:25 You know, he can get clipped with something over the top.
11:29 But see how that range right there, it's fair game for him.
11:33 I mean, he dominates at that range, mid-range to outside.
11:36 Del Rio won't be able to do anything
11:39 if he just keeps it at that range.
11:42 - He should, it's an eight-inch reach advantage,
11:44 so there's another straight left.
11:46 - And then he falls in after.
11:48 (bell dings)
11:48 - Fight!
11:49 - Yep.
11:57 - All right, so Jakirov has been very effective
11:59 with the left hands from the start of this fight, Tim.
12:01 - Yeah, that's what the South Pauls usually look for.
12:03 They look for left hands.
12:04 And, you know, he's been pretty accurate with it.
12:06 You know, although Del Rio has been trying to put up a fight,
12:09 I mean, he is a smaller heavyweight in there,
12:12 you know, with a big heart.
12:14 But Jakirov, you can tell he's very skillful
12:17 using that lead hand as a blinder every now and then,
12:20 sticking that jab out there, having head control,
12:23 leaning over the top of his man.
12:25 He's doing a lot of, we'll say, advanced things
12:27 at this early in his career.
12:29 A couple of things that I think that he needs to stop doing
12:32 is when he throws his left hand, he falls in at times,
12:34 loses footing.
12:36 Sometimes he gets a little bit beside himself,
12:39 he'll rush forward and forget about his defense
12:42 just to get offense.
12:43 So, you know, it's a good start for him right now,
12:46 this far.
12:47 - It's a start because it's gonna be a long night for us,
12:50 but up next, it's gonna be Galindo against Bravo
12:54 in an eight-round junior lightweight fight.
12:56 Then, Alan Garcia will get our first look
12:58 at the Kansas kid and Kelvin Davis,
13:00 the brother of Keyshawn Davis,
13:02 right before the return of Duke Reagan
13:05 after a year outside the ring due to left elbow problems.
13:09 I'm excited to see the new and improved Duke Reagan
13:12 come back to ESPN+.
13:14 Final round of Jacques Enguirre-Zokirov's pro debut
13:18 against Guillermo del Rio.
13:20 One-foot height advantage, eight-inch reach advantage,
13:25 and conditioning advantage also.
13:27 (laughing)
13:30 The referee calls the fight,
13:34 not only because Guillermo del Rio got dropped,
13:36 but also, Tim, because he had kept warning him
13:38 about keeping his head down.
13:40 He didn't like the way those punches were landing
13:42 on the back of the head of Guillermo del Rio,
13:46 so Jacques Enguirre-Zokirov.
13:48 - I think it was more of the exhaustion
13:50 that he saw from del Rio.
13:51 I mean, del Rio wasn't much of a fight.
13:53 I mean, he fought hard, as hard as he possibly can,
13:55 but he didn't come here in shape.
13:57 And Zokirov, well-schooled, amateur pedigree,
14:03 I mean, what you expect?
14:04 No, here's the finish of the fight right here.
14:07 Zokirov just teeing off.
14:09 I think they got the memo,
14:10 that I think they realized that he was crowding himself.
14:14 And once he started letting his hands go
14:15 at their proper range, he was able to land consistently.
14:18 He steps inside, and now, just roughing him up, man.
14:22 Catching him with good, clean combinations like that.
14:25 The referee steps in and says, "I've seen enough of this.
14:28 "Going home, son."
14:29 Good start to the career-- - Good night,
14:31 have a good night. - Of Jacques Enguirre-Zokirov,
14:34 who makes his pro debut out of Zizak, Uzbekistan,
14:39 taking on Guillermo del Rio.
14:41 And he'll do a lot of work out there in the desert
14:44 with Joel Diaz as his assistant coach,
14:47 and his father, Lazisbek Zokirov, in his corner.
14:50 Let's send it up to Mark Chernuk for the official time.
14:54 - Ladies and gentlemen, here inside Fort Bend Epicenter,
14:56 Rosenburg, Texas, referee Alejandro Leon
14:59 calls a stop to this bout at 39 seconds of round number four
15:04 for your winner by technical knockout
15:06 in his professional debut, Jacques Enguirre-Zokirov!
15:11 (crowd cheering)
15:15 - 39 seconds of that fourth and final round
15:21 is when the knockout comes for Jacques Enguirre-Zokirov.
15:26 We have a long night of action for you.
15:28 Up next, two-time Chilean junior lightweight champion,
